1. Food
Buffet breakfast is provided with the stay. There is a wide range of food for breakfast. However, the food is not fantastic. In fact, some of the dishes were quite tasteless.

2. Beach
There are no beach front at all eventhough it is directly facing the sea. Magellan Sutera Harbour attempted to have a teeny weeny area where it you can dip your feet into the sea.

3. Room
The room cleanliness is ok. The toilet looks kinda old and would require some upgrading.

4. Service
The staffs are friendly and helpful. However, they spoiled the surprised birthday for my boyfriend. I arranged for birthday cake to be delivered to the room but the cake never came until I called the front desk and reminded them about it. Though the cake was complimentary from Magellan Sutera Harbour, they should be meticulous about such things.

5. Overall
Magellan Sutera Harbour is located very strategically and has a nice, peaceful feel to it. If you're not particular about all these petty things, the place is really nice.

My fiance and I have just returned from an 8 night stay at the Pacific Sutera Harbour Resort in September 2010.This hotel was recommended to me by a friend who enjoyed her stay here last year. I booked through Booking.com and prior to staying I contacted the hotel and they addressed my request accurately and efficiently. Thank You Sylvia!!
The staff were wonderful! Their attitute was friendly and went out of their way to ensure that every request was met whether it was a taxi request or information. Nothing was too much trouble. The local knowledge and friendly professional manner were what made this hotel so welcoming. The rooms were large, well equipped (great big bathroom!) and kept very clean during our 8 day stay -Thank you Esther! It was quiet at night and very restful, the air conditioning was great and totally silent!
The small touches such as the welcoming fruit platter with a personalized note on arrival, handmade chocolates and picture postcard bookmarks left on the bed each night were thoughtful and appreciated. The meals at the hotel were very nice, reasonable prices and the breakfast buffet each morning was outstanding with freshly baked pastries and quick service. I really enjoyed the coffee! Excellent Hotel and service!
The experience of other recent 'reviews'? was not our experience. We felt very safe here and our valuables, even wallets were not always locked away in the safe while we were out and I brought a DVD player with me which was great for local movies! I would not hesitate to come back here and my fiance...very much a homebody, did not want to go home! Highly reccomended!

We stayed at this hotel for 12N and must say were impressed by the resort. We have stayed at the Shangri La (TAR & RR) so this completes the trifecta of hotels in KK. We were in a garden view room and it was clean, and quite large with a balcony overlooking the marina (or part of it). Rooms have the usual fridge/safe etc but they are getting on in age. It would be nice to see a few modern touches such as new TV's and furnature, but this is getting picky.

The choice of 4 pools is great and being able to use facilities over the two resorts is a bonus (Sutera and Magellan). Obverall this is a very good hotel, however there were a few negatives. The service is friendly by VERY slow and the drinks are inconsistent across the bars. It took on average 20 minutes to be served a cocktail in bar 'A'. We would order the same cocktail in bar 'B' and it woul take 20 minutes as well, but be completly different in taste and texture. The slow servie and inconsistenties was frustrating. Food was also slow in arrving. The cost of drinks and fod was reasonable for a resort and the quality was at times average.

I put the slow service down to a management issue as there didn;t appear to be anyone who was prepared to take charge and staff appeared to be out of their depth with drink preparation.

Comparing it to the two Shangri La's it would rate well across the board except for service where it fails miserably compared the the other two.

Breakfast was a bit of a hit an miss affair with the coffee machine breaking down and not being attended to by the staff. Even when it was it took too long to empty a tray and throw out coffee beans. Breakfast quality was reasonable if not repetative, but this is the same at all hotels.

Value - 8.5/10
Location - 9/10
Service - 4/10
Rooms - 8.5/10
Clenliness - 9/10
Staff - 8.5/10

My husband and I stayed at here for 3 nights. I'm currently 6 months pregnant and we wanted a quiet getaway together before the baby arrives.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Eleanor who arranged our check-in and we were served drinks and snacks at the lounge. She was very warm, friendly and helpful with suggesting some places we could go. She also arranged some fruits to be sent to our room which was a nice gesture.

We were pleased with our room. Although a little bit old and worn, the room is clean and big with a spacious bathroom (bathtub, separate shower area). All the basic amenities were there except a hairdryer (I had to request for one).

We were glad that we chose to stay at the Magellan instead of Pacific Sutera (which is slightly cheaper). Magellan is more private and much quieter compared to the Pacific which was filled with families with children. However, we still got to use all the facilities at all the resorts (nice swimming pools, bowling alley, etc). The only drawback is there are no beaches on the resort, so this is not the place to stay if you are looking for a beach.

The hotel provides an hourly shuttle bus to the malls in town (about 10 mins away) which makes it convenient to get around town. However, the taxis in KK are horrendously overpriced. The taxi from the airport to the hotel is RM30 for a 5 min trip (it's the same from hotel to airport)!

We were given buffet breakfast as part of the package. The food is quite good, but the buffet spread is the same every day which gets terribly boring after the 2nd or 3rd day. It would be nice if they could have changed the buffet spread a little more.

On a separate note, we took a boat to 2 islands for snorkeling - Manukan Island and Sapi Island. Manukan was a huge disappointment. The beach was overcrowded, the waters weren't clear and the sand was full of dead corals. I wouldn't recommend going there. Sapi Island is better - smaller beach but clearer waters.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in August 2010 for 4 nights as part of a 2 week visit to Borneo. We stayed at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria for 4 nights previously during the same trip. We both felt that although the Rasa Ria resort was fantastic and the reserve attached even more so, if we had to chose only one resort from which to explore KK and surrounds it would be the Sutera Magellan Harbour. This is because of the onsite Marina from which you can get over to the islands for diving and snorkelling and its vicinity to KK for shopping, restaurants and sights. (To give you some referance, we have previously stayed in the Nirwana Le Meridien and Nusa Dua Beach Hotel in Bali and found this resort was of equal quality and value for money).

Check-in: As is always the case in SE asia, smooth, efficient and friendly. No hassles whatsoever!
Room: Garden Deluxe room. Seperate shower and bath. Rooms as shown on hotel website. (Actually website pretty accurate in terms of photos).
Food: Excellent quality with the buffet breakfast and Al Fresco dining are favourites. Prices and quality on par with restaurants in Canada. Restaurant service was not quite as good as the Shangri-La but food was better.
Shuttle: Extremely convenient and free, need to book ahead to make sure that you can get on. Also we never took it back to the hotel as we couldn't be bothered to wait for the exact time of pick-up. Taxis are everywhere in KK and for RM12 you can get back to the hotel easily.
Pool: Excellent. Lots of loungers available as most people head off to the islands.
Marina: Ferries to islands right from the hotel. We also booked Scuba diving from the Marina through Borneo Divers Training Institute (see seperate review).
Beach: Not much to write about but with the islands off the coast reachable in 15 minutes there was nothing to complain about.

All in all, we felt that this hotel would have been our choice if we were to visit KK again and could only stay in one but we were fortunate to visit both this resort and the Rasa Ria.
