“Wonderful retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

We had a bad experience in Borneo after touring I picked up Typhoid. We dropped out of the programme and checked into this hotel. Wonderful place to stay for a quiet relaxing week. Has the most amazing steak restaraunt, quite expensive but well worth a visit or two.

Wow, this place is huge! there seem to be lots and lots of people, and yet still lots and lots of space. Waaaaayy out of town - 45 minute bus ride, so get everything you need before you venture out. On the shores of the South China Sea (great), and plenty to do besides wave surfing as they have a great pool and organised activities. Internet connection is terrible! Service is great at the main desk, and they know what they are talking about. 3 - 4 tour operators work from here too. Restaurants are fine, service is good, and food supply is generous. Unfortunately, like the rest of KK, lots of litter, and I had difficulty taking many nice photos because of this. We mentioned this in the review, so hopefully they will take note. It is a very quiet place, and the noisiest aspect is the ocean, but that is lovely to listen to at night anyways.

Room Tip: Get a room close to the main part of the resort unless you like to walk a loooong way to eat etc.

I spent my wife's birthday on the 24/12 and Christmas on the 25/12 at the said bedroom. Suite is superbly nice and attractive. With jacuzzi bathtub and separate steam bath in the main bathroom. Accommodation wise is perfect.

But hotel service staff is poor. We need to wait for about 3 hours to get an additional pillow. Even I've pre-arranged with the hotel for my wife's birthday settings, still it coul don't be done and it never was done.

Plus 5 star hotel has no celebration at all for Christmas. Omg~~~ Christmas is extremely boring.

Restaurant is another issue. To queue for dinner, we spent about 2 hrs waiting in the line, with reasons restaurant is full. But the table are all on reserved sign and no one is there for the next hour. Stupid arrangements

Will not come back for any celebration but if u don really care the environment, u can try the suite.

Room Tip: Internet is not working at all.

The Nexus property was beautiful. Lots of greenery, trees, flowers and fresh, fresh air. The beach, however, was not so beautiful. When I would walk down the beach in the morning, it was dirty and littered. Keep in mind that I was walking along the beach at 10-11 am...plenty of time to have the beach cleaned up. There were not enough umbrellas either. One great thing about the beach were the massages. I had one with Geoffrey and it was wonderful (but expensive). The food was expensive and certainly not worth what we paid for. If you want a good deal on drinks, hit up happy hour at the bar (I forgot the name) with the pool table. We would have drinks there and they were about half the price of the other restaurants on site. We would have loved to leave the resort to buy beer and such, but it was a good 45 minutes from town and the shuttle service was a bit pricey. Also, room service is the same price as the restaurants and has more options. We ordered from there and were quite happy with the flavor of our food. We had to wait in line 3 mornings to get into the breakfast room. This is unacceptable. The service was absolutely horrible. From front desk to restaurants to breakfast room, the service totally sucked. I was disappointed by this as Nexus is supposed to be a 4 star resort. Hardly. Staff rarely smiled. They all just looked miserable. The rooms were old and worn down. Our room had a hole in where the "peek" hole was. You could see straight through. The amenities were pretty awful as well. We had to ask for soap when we first arrived because they did not provide any. This is a silly complaint, but we had to hold down the toilet handle for about 20 seconds to flush the toilet. Again, minor, but annoying!

I'm giving an average because we still had a great time and the grounds are beautiful. We were able to relax and chill out which was our mission to begin with. However, if you're looking for a beautiful beach area, great food, good service and reasonably priced drinks, you're looking at the wrong resort.

We booked one of the villas which was very nice - lots of space, small private lap pool and nicely decorated. The resort is a little isolated, and there's not much around. The things that are around are kind of expensive for what they are. The restaurants are not very good and under-staffed. The spa is very nice though.

Stayed 5 days January 2012, most staff pleasant and helpful, especially Majadi and other duty manager. Breakfast not wonderful, choice limited, insufficient staff no organisation, although female egg chef very nice. Would recommend Sunset bar/restaurant very understated, but food excellent incl seafood, pasta, pizza and cocktails. Noble House Chinese restaurant good, but service variable. Marjong lessons, napkin folding, flora/fauna walks all good, at no cost. Had room in Borneo wing, very quiet air con, good sleeping quality. However, not five star as billed, little work needed on finishes, electrics, service etc, we called engineering at least five times!

Room Tip: Borneo wing good, away from more dense accommodation near centre of resort.

I stayed here with my family for 3 days in December 2011.
We booked a villa which is 2 km from the main hotel site. When the taxi tried to take us there the security guard at the entrance to the villas told us we had to go to the hotel despite our showing him our booking. When we got to the hotel they told us we were in the wrong place and put us immediately into a shuttle and took us back - past the same guard. Then we were told that at 5pm, our villa wasn't ready and were sent to have complimentary drinks pool-side. Then when the villa was ready we were told we'd have to wait a short time for the shuttle and when we said we'd walk the receptionist looked a little concerned and said she could point it out and it was a short walk. However, when we got outside the shuttle had arrived and our bag was being loaded. We got in. It dropped us across the road and down 1 villa!! It took us longer to get in and out of the shuttle than it would have have taken us to walk. Really.
However, the 2 bedroom villa was lovely and had a private lap pool and lawn. It was in excellent condition (possibly as it was still quite new) and very clean. The kitchen had only a microwave, fridge freezer and 4 cups, saucers and teaspoons. Nothing else. Just as well we weren't planning on doing any cooking.
The beach is nice with a long sandy stretch (at low tide) between the hotel and villas which makes a nice 30 min walk. The water was warm and quite calm - even on the day the red flag was up, although there was a current. When the green flag was up it was practically a lake.
The shuttles run regularly between the villas and hotel at half hourly intervals, but as there was so much traffic between the 2, the service was virtually on demand as there's nearly always someone going across. In fact, as it was pretty busy the shuttles were often full and just about every available vehicle was comandeered to transport guests - on one occasion the head of security and the hotel manager took us with them. On the whole I thought the service worked well.
As the hotel was full the restaurants were very busy. Even the buffet option (quite expensive) suffered from a lack of service. There's a definite need for more staff at these very busy times. We also tried room service which was a better option as they delivered in the 35 minutes promised.
We tried to get a slightly later check out at 1pm but were told it would not be possible as they were fully booked - this despite our room not being ready when we arrived.
On the whole we enjoyed the stay very much but I think that the experience would have rated 5 stars if we had been there at a less busy time of year. Although the staff were all very friendly and polite, they were clearly working flat out and as a result service was generally slow.
