“One of the best places we've stayed in”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks in the Nexus for our honeymoon. I'd read the reviews after booking and was terrified about how it would be, but on arrival I could not see where the complaints were coming from!
Our room was beautiful, luxurious, meticulously clean and a real pleasure to stay in. We were in a room in the main building near the reception.
The resort itself is big with great facilities that seem very underused, which was great for us as we always got sunloungers and slots at the spa! Speaking of the spa, that too was gorgeous. Very relaxing and a lovely environment. The resort was very clean but yes, there were a few little signs of wear and tear- nothing major.
The staff were wonderful- nothing was too much trouble. They were constantly asking if we needed anything and going out of their way to make our honeymoon perfect.
The only downsides were how expensive the restaurants were, especially the price of alcohol, but all the food we ate was very good with great service, and I guess you expect that on a nice resort in the middle of nowhere. Some have said that the distance of the hotel from the city was a downside, but we liked that- it was nice to be somewhere quiet but be able to get to the city quite easily. The shuttle bus takes about 45 mins each way and costs 24 RM return (about £5) but taxis are about £75 RM each way. We quite enjoyed the journey and looking at the countryside.
Breakfast was great, there was plenty to chose from- English, Eastern, pancakes, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, porridge, pastries etc. We ate far too much every day!
We did lots of trips- there are plenty of tour operators with desks in the hotel who are only too happy to help.
In short, we had a wonderful honeymoon and will definately return to the Nexus. Sabah was beautiful, the people were amazing, KK was a lot of fun, the day trips were brilliant and Nexus was the icing on the cake.

Room Tip: If you don't like the room you're allocated, just speak to the staff, they seem very eager t...

I've checked in ocean wing seaview room. View is not as stunning as expected because its blocked by trees. Yet it's still acceptable. There are chairs at the seaside prepared by the resort, just wonderful. These seats around 50m away from the wave is really close to sea and just like you can touch the sky. However room design is old and certain parts in the room not functioning well, such as the lock at the balcony, power supple plug. Hotel breakfast just average. But if you looking for relax stay these small defects won't affect you holiday mood!

Have been reading many of the reviews about this resort before starting my trip. Was scared by some of the review by other users here but I would like to take this chance to say it is really not that BAD.

Me and my girlfriend had spent six days staying One Bedroom Spa Suite. The suite is spacious even with one bedroom only and it was well prepared once we were arrived.

The master bedroom is equipped with Jacuzzi tub and Steam shower booth and we did enjoy it very much. Though there is a crack or two in a couple of tiles on wall still we didn't feel weird of it.

Breakfast is served at pool side in non-rainy days. Though not a wide range for choice still OK as we didn't bother to go to restaurants in main parts for breakfast.

We had a Malaysian Seafood buffet in "Kingfisher" of main part, food is good and not pricy.

Most of the staffs are friendly and helpful. They did smile when seeing us.

We went there for a relaxing vacation and probably we are lucky being there not in a high season. Still I would recommend this resort, especially the villas and spa suites to those travelers who want a calm, quiet and relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Request for top floor if staying at Spa Suite, you could enjoy a panoramic sea-view. Or the ground f...

I stayed in the pool villa for 3 nights at Nexus which was located about 2 away from the main resort. Actually we booked a Spa suite but eventually was upgraded to a Pool Villa so thanks a million yo Nexus staff for that =3 The pool villa was bigger than my house so it was a nice feeling to stay in a place so luxurious with an added lap pool for ard the clock swim.
The beach was amazing, white sandy beach as far as the eye can see and clear water with NO CROWDS! its like having a private beach all to yourselves. If u like, u could even stroll along the beach and walk to the main building from here.
The downside of staying in the pool villa when I was there was:
-low peak season so the whole area was quiet, VERY QUIET and eerie at night.
-quite a distance from the happenings of the hotel (rent a car or u cld wait for the shuttle bus)
-2nd night i was there the curtain railings in d master bedroom gave way (but thank goodness we were upgraded to a beach front villa d day after)
-main pool in d area was not properly cleaned, the water was murky and a lot of sand at the bottom of the pool)
-only one restaurant in the area(but its closed on some days)
Other then those reasons, its a nice getaway from d busy life of KL =3

Apologies for the late review... I'm catching up on my reviews!

We stayed here for 7 nights in June 2010. It is a really remote resort so you can't just wander off somewhere. You really need to take a cab. It takes about 40 minutes to get there from the airport, but the resort itself is beautiful and huge. There is a lagoon park there too and the beach is long and well kept.

Our room was large and looked out over the sea and the gardens. We had a king size bed, massive flat screen tv, huge bathroom and huge balcony, which is great because we love to chill on the balcony with drinks and a book in the evenings. It was kept spotless too.

Breakfast was tasty... loads to choose from. The food in all the restaurants was delish.

There was lots to do there, plenty of water sports. To hire a double kayak was RM30 for an hour, so we hopped on the free shuttle bus to the lagoon park to have some fun! It was beautiful there, we kayaked through mangroves and saw some monitor lizards. We would have been able to see Mt. Kinabalu if it wasn't for the ridiculous storm clouds that were heading our way! The locals who lived in stilted houses along the lagoon seemed really friendly and were waving at us. We got out and walked along a spit of sand in the middle of the lagoon, but were disappointed to see it littered with rubbish. I hope this has changed now.

We went on the free jungle trek in the forest surrounding the resort, which was really great but not very much to see. I was clearly a feast for the mozzies there though... I deeted everywhere... then washed my hands so I wouldn't melt my camera. Epic mistake! It might have been better later in the day when tropical creatures tend to come out. Worth going though... as it's free!

Would recommend taking the trip to Rasa Ria to see the Orang Utangs too. It cost us RM70 EACH WAY. Worth it though... a fantastic experience. We also went on the trip to the tip of Borneo, stopping off at several places there and back. Was a brilliant day out!

All in all it was really nice here, but we felt a little out of place as it catered more to rich Chinese / Japanese tourists and business people. Not much to see or do unless you go on some expensive trips. I would love to go back to Borneo, but not to this hotel.

Ironically we had the best holiday ever because the surrounds, particularly the beach were so relaxing and we really unwound. That unfortunately is where the praise ended. There really is nothing positive I can say about the nexus, the whole place is in desperate need of a revamp, and a good clean. Our room was absolutley disgusting! It was unclean and and had an unusual smell about it and all the furniture was damaged. All restaurants except the main one were closed for the duration of our stay for supposedly refurbishment, however after discussing it with a staff member we were told it was because of staff shortage. Food was unedible 90% of the time, and drinks were limited and overpriced. Staff were rude, unhelpful and it always seemed a burden when asking for certain things, ie: ice delivered to room, bus timetables, a drink! Two days into our stay they ran out of beer, and ice!!! How on earth they can run out of ice is beyond me!! Ice and beer were'nt seen for the remainder of our week. The spa was the only place in the resort that was clean, but the service was rude, and the treatments slack. Terrible value for money. I can't stress enough the uncleanliness of this resort, I guess it was just from lack of staff able to tidy things up, or do general cleaning. People would leave plates and glasses around the pool and they would still be there in the morning. Pool bar was also closed down! We actually stayed in the nicer part of the resort, I went for a walk around the grounds one day and checked out the villas over by the golf course, they were dilapidated, smashed windows and overgrown in vines, something tells me they haven't been used for years yet they are still on offer as accommodation. Had there been a closer more viable option we wouldnt have even stayed the first night here, that's just how disgusting this place was! Stay the hell away, you'll totally regret it!!!

We had a wonderful stay at this place. The customer service was exceptional. We booked the Spa Suite but was upgraded to a 2 room Pool Villa. The villa was big, good, and clean. Beds were comfy and beach towels were provided in the room. It wasn't properly maintained though.

We stayed there for 3 nights and each night, we stayed in a different villa. First night, villa was too far away and there wasn't anyone in our area so we decided to move nearer to the spa suite building. Villa 1 was bigger and the landscaping was properly maintained. Villa 2 had a smaller garden and the plants looked very wilted. Some lights weren't working and the door to the mini indoor garden in the main bathroom couldn't be opened. The shower head had also cracked causing water to spray in every direction.

The next day, the curtain railing gave way and we were asked to move to another villa. This time, we were moved to the seafront villa (Villa 3). Villa 3 was much much nicer! The view was spectacular, too bad we only had 1/2 a day to enjoy it. The shower water was not very warm, chilly in fact. Good thing the weather was hot.

The Spa suites and villas were situated 1km away from the main building which wasn't a problem for us because we had rented a car. The breakfast was good, loved the omelette. The customer service was exceptional. We saw a waitress accompanying 2 kids around the buffet tables taking food for them.

We had a late lunch one day and ordered ala carte. The waitress served us desserts from the buffet table. The same happened for dinner the next night. They asked us whether we would like dessert and of course we said yes :)

I would go back again if there is a good deal because it is quite pricey seeing as the place is a 5 star hotel. Lovely place with good service. Oh, they serve in room dining with no extra charge!

Room Tip: I'd advice to chose the villas closer to the spa suites building because at night, it could get...
