“Fantastically helpful and informative staff”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

This is a new hotel with clean, comfortable and individually styled rooms. The rooms we had were bright and airy with good ocean themed decor. The best thing about the hotel, however, are the really helpful and efficient staff, especially Miss Betty. Betty helped us plan trips, arrange transport and get good deals on the places we visited. She also helped me retrieve my phone charger from another hotel, and the hotel driver popped me over there to pick it up! The hotel is a few minutes drive from the centre of town, but it's easy to book on the hotel shuttle bus to get dropped off and picked up. It's the little things that give them the edge, like posting our postcards for us on the day we left when we couldn't find a postbox. A big thank you to Oceania Hotel - a lovely place to stay.

A relatively good city hotel if you are not looking for one with complete amenities.

The rooms are clean with wifi access, bathrooms are properly equipped, clean and brightly lit.

The only thing that this hotel didn't have was the usual room service, but they work with their hotel restaurant where they send up the staff to take order from you from their menu and deliver the order to you. No local food - only seafood but I like the Japanese Fish Burger with Seaweed that I ordered!

The hotel also provides free shuttle service to and from the nearby two big shopping malls in the heart of the city.

Overall - money worth spent!

We spent 1 night here, before going to Sandakan. The room is really large and the price is fair. Also really clean which was nice. Very noisy rooms though, you can hear your neighbours extremely well.
It's a descent hotel and good for a short stay, but I wouldn't stay here for much longer. It misses a bit of personality, the hotel feels a bit 'stale' and it's a bit out of downtown. But for us it was just fine for the night!

We stayed 4 nights here and were very impressed with cleanliness and the friendly staff. It is a bit out of the way but book the shuttle bus and it takes you and will pick up from downtown. It has only been open a few months and so everything is modern and super clean.
We ate at the Catch 22 which is attached to the hotel but run independently of it. The food was excellent - I had wood grilled snapper on top of sweet potato and greens mmmmm!
We also tried the soup - potato and tomato - both tasted homemade!
The hotel arranged tours of the Mari Mari village and the Klias river tour and bit were excellent - the latter through Only Borneo Tours
Would highly reccommend this hotel.

With the price range.... Very happy with the hotel super cleanliness. Overall room is nice with comfortable pillows and plush bed. Thumbs up to the overall friendly service. Dinner at the ground floor restaurant is great. We like the fresh seafood served. Soup of the day...mushroom soup was very tasty with fresh mushrooms lingering on. As the hotel is located away from town central, they provided shuttle service which was great effort from the hotel. Happy staying!

What worked:
- Excellent rooms (impressive at the price!!) with great amenities incl good wifi. The hotel is quite recent and the rooms look very nice (for this price range).
- Competent staff

What didn't work:
- Location: Other hotels were at a walking distance from the pier / sights. You needed a taxi to go anywhere. Even to find it originally was a bit of a challenge on arrival (at night 2100 hours).
- Taxi prices: Now taxi prices anywhere in KK are generally ridiculous (i.e starting at 15 RM for a small distance). This adds costs. Further, the staff was clueless - they advised us to pay 30RM for a taxi to the airport (u dont find them around the hotel easily), for about 5 mins of driving distance (at 60-80 kph). Needless to say, the taxi advise really pissed us off.

This hotel is relatively new - about 8 months old we were told by the management. It's a good hotel, rooms are clean with the minimum required facilities. All were fully functional. Toilets were clean and the big shower head offered a great showering experience. The location is only so-so that's because there are located in an area that is quite congested with traffic. I suppose that's ok for the tourist that isn't driving because getting a parking spot is quite difficult.

The only restaurant in the hotel serves fairly tasty food. The chef does bother about food presentation - we ordered a simple sandwich and it came all well 'decorated'. Prices are just a little bit on the high side. However, there are many other local fare located nearby the hotel.

All-in-all it's a good hotel.
