3-Day Adventure in Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Reviewed 1 February 2014

Tabin was AWESOME. Our guide, Izrail (do yourself a favour and request him), was so incredibly knowledgable about the rain forests, birds, mammals and reptiles of Tabin he made our whole Tabin experience truly memorable and went out of his way to show us everything he could. It was a lovely 3D 2N package that opened our eyes to the biodiversity and beauty of Borneo and the staff, food and accommodation was most pleasant. I would have loved to stay longer. Foot soak was wonderful! Great Gibbon and Pygmy Elephant sightings as well as many beautiful birds and other smaller mammals. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

expected a bit more. never seen a sun bear or a cobra before though, so that made up for it. the botanical section of the reserve was amazing. we had our private guide, we give him ten out of ten.

We spent 3 days in Tabin which we booked through Amazing Borneo Tours and it was an amazing experience. Tabin is the size of Singapore and it's the jungle not a zoo so you're not guaranteed to see any animals but we were really lucky. Keep your eyes open at all times - we walked out of our room on the final day and it was only because I turned around that we spotted an entire family of monkeys playing about 5 metres away!

If you stay for 2 nights you get a fantastic itinerary which is amazing value for money. It includes your own personal guide during your visit and I can truly say that we wouldn't have spotted even 1/3rd of the animals we did see without Maldin - he was brilliant. You do need to be patient and trust that your guide will find the animals if they're there. During our stay we saw eagles, three types of hornbill, long tailed macaque, pig tailed macaque, borneon gibbon, red giant flying squirrels, leopard cats, two herds of pygmy elephants, bearded pig, ysamber deer, monitor lizards and the poisonour rock frog! On our first afternoon we did a short walk through the jungle to the mud volcano, at night we did a safari drive, the following morning we did the optional early morning walk (it shouldn't be optional because we saw the most animals on this walk and it was definitely worth getting up for), then we went to the Lipad waterfall which was relaxing, had the complimentary foot soak, before a dusk safari drive. We skipped the optional night walk because I'm terrified of snakes!

The lodges at Tabin are clean and simple, with everything you need including air conditioning and hot water. The food was good but make sure you're hungry because there's always plenty of it - you get served a selection of dishes for each meal.

Overall Tabin was a great experience.

The Tabin Wildlife Reserve is an extraordinary place to visit if you wish to discover wild nature, to spot many different animals (monkeys, snakes, gibbons, spiders, many different birds, ....), to appreciate the richness of plants and wildlife of Borneo and to enjoy trekking and birdwatching in Borneo. It's something unique, really fascinating, A 360° experience of wildlife. The local guides of Tabin Wildlife resort are really good and will guide you in your discovery of this amazing nature. Spotting some big animals like Elephants or Rhinos is quite difficult...so don't go there just to see them because you might only see their picture. It is however far more exiting than in other places because when you are so lucky to spot an animal you feel soo satisfied. You need GOOD Eyes and GOOD LUCK (as our guide told us almost every day). The resort offers many diffent activities both on foot or by jeep as well as some nice activities to relax in the evening. Very interesting are also the mud volcanos and a perfect place to spot birds and other animals. We also had the chance to have a wonderful bath in a forest lake, where there was an amazing waterfall. I got the feeling I was like Sheena in the jungle or like an American star.... simply beautiful and relaxing. This place is a must!!! 2 days are however not enough...at least 4 days / 3 nights!!! DO NOT FORGET: Torch, water, insect-repellent, raincoat.

I recommed you to go and enjoy the forest with wild animals and birds even though tough by unpaved road for 2 hour ride. From early morning till night, you are always in the middle of the nature. By the way, I was really suprised to know the forest at night is really noisy but enjoyable.
