Very cheap and tasty food at Kuching. One of the famous hawker stall is near to bus terminal area. Just opposite Electra house and near to the mosque.

Must try out the Kolok mee, siew bee, laksa. The price range is from RM2 to RM5. Very cheap!

The are few seafood stalls for dinner also. The price is cheaper than Top Spot but Top Spot offer more variety and delicious food.

Located near Kuching Masjid, it’s one of the best place for tasting local Malay & Chinese food in Kuching.

Be prepared to walk around but it is rewarding as one can observe the locals doing their chores.

The "hawker center," known to locals as the "open-air market," remains almost unchanged since I last ate there almost 50 years ago. Although Kuching has, over that period, grown from 50,000 citizens to 500,000, and though much of the town is now unrecgnizeable, the center-of-town open air market, with its dueling cuisines (Malay/Chinese), is mostly unchanged--including the prices!

My wife and I ate at the Chinese side, the side facing the river, on a Sunday evening. The tables were filled with hungry families. If the Chinese vendors' English is limited, no problem; you just go up to the "counter," point to the ingredients, indicate how you want them cooked or combined, return to your seat, and wait for the wonderful results. Our meal,: chili prawns, deep fried quail, sauteed jungle ferns, and stir-fried spinach varieties. Each dish was delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. And the price, including to large bottles of Chinese beer: under $10!

After a half century, Kuching's hawker center is still the best foodie/people-watching site in town.
