A great backpackers hostel in a great location (right on the waterfront) in Kicking.

We stayed for a total of three nights and loved our stay. Excellent hosts and a really relaxed atmosphere conducive to meeting lots of new people. Although this does make it rather easy to pass many hours in the confines of the hostel!

We stayed in Room 1 which is an excellent size with lots of natural light - two rare commodities when travelling on a rather strict budget. Rooms and shared bathrooms are all very clean.

There was also no problem leaving our big bags at the hostel whilst we went to Bako NP for a night.

Overall, I would definitely recommend here to any budget traveller visiting Kicking; well deserved 5/5 rating.

Room Tip: If booking a double room, request Room No 1 as this is an excellent size and lots of natural light.

Such an amazing experience. Seahare is not just a hostel it will become a 2nd home. Located in the centre of town beside the river. Everything you need is in walking distance and you can book tours in the shop downstairs.
With lovely rooms, great beds in a large 12 bed dorm, hot water, imternet and simple breakfast facilities there is little more you need.
Thank you for having me Greg and Amy. Love you guys, see you again.

Absolutely loved this place! It felt like home.
Very spacious dorm room which has air conditioning so it was very easy to sleep at night.
There are hot showers, toast, tea and coffee for breakfast, movie selection, board games, bean bags...they really have it all.
There is a small locker for any valuables which is very handy and a cute lounge and outdoor area. The entire place just has a real welcoming feel and it is just so chilled and comfortable.
Quite close to the airport, walking distance to shopping mall, waterfront, bars and restaurants.
The owners are lovely, very helpful and get involved with the travelers which was nice!
Could not recommend this place enough. Very sad to have left!

We booked the airport pickup for 25 ringgit and were met by Ben, brother of Greg who, with Amy, runs the hostel. They offered us a choice of rooms, one with a window and fan and the other with no window and air conditioning. We took the one with the window, it was good; neat, high ceilings and relatively cool (we were still acclimatising to the heat). My boyfriend would recommend the room with the air conditioning as he found it too hot, I preferred the fan. The wifi was reliable; the walls were either thick or else the other guests quiet.

The shared bathrooms were fine, though there are only two and I suspect that it could get congested were the hostel full. During one of my boyfriend's showers a red worm wriggled up the drain and hid behind the u-bend of the loo and there were a few ants but nothing problematic.

The place is well-located in the middle of Kuching; walking distance from everything. There's much to do; we arranged amazing trips with Ben's employers; we saw orang-utans in the (semi) wild, canoed through a rainforest in monsoon rains and visited a village where headhunters used to live.

In a sense the greatest strength here is the owners, Greg and Amy; they were hugely helpful and made us very welcome. They were fun and interesting to talk to and invited us to go out with them and their friends one night (our stomachs were behaving badly so sadly we couldn't; they kindly left us with their massive DVD collection). They gave us good advice on what to do and see and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there; we'd definitely come by again if we found ourselves in Kuching!

I stayed at Borneo Seahare in April for 4 days after booking just 1 night! It's a very small backpackers with a big heart. The owners are really lovely, not only giving lots of advice but are very much part of everyone's experience as they live there too. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable, hot showers and a nice cosy area to hang out, cook and watch TV. They are moving into bigger premises soon which I think is going to be even better, wishing them luck!!
