Nomad's not so much a B&B, more of a backpackers lodge. It is located on the top floors above a shophouse in a small street behind Harbour View Hotel. We stayed four nights in a cosy ensuite room on the second floor (double bed with air-cond, private shower, toilet, dresser and towel provided), tastefully decorated with a couple of paintings. Had the one with the window (with blinds, window faces back of building), nice to have outside light but not essential as lighting was ok coupled with the fact that we don't spend a lot of time in the room. Not the best value but generally clean; comfy bed and everything worked well. Only grouse about the room is that the bathroom is extremely small (not an understatement) and there's no sink (had to use the common one along the corridor outside the room). It would have been useful if there were a small bin in the room too (there're two placed near the shared bathrooms on the same floor).

Felt safe and key card system is used to access the Nomad at any hour. Chris, the owner/manager is informative and helpful, and has leaflets and brochures that you could borrow. Free toast and jam is available all day. You could use the kitchen if you wanted to (utensils available). You can also refill your drinking water from a water dispenser in the kitchen.

Best thing about Nomad is its location - it is walking distance to the waterfront and all the places on Kuching Heritage Trail. It was less than 10 mins' walk to the bus stop near Khatulistiwa Cafe where we caught Rapid Kuching bus no.1 to Bako village for the onward boat journey to Bako National Park. No traffic noise since Nomad is not situated on the main road ... quiet most days except for Friday and Saturday nights where the area becomes a little busy and noisy as there are a few pubs and bars nearby. On the days that we rented a car, we could park it on the street in front of Nomad for free. For toiletries and other things you may need, there's Ting & Ting Supermarket not too far away which is a decent size supermarket. When you are hungry, Green Hill Corner coffeeshop is just around the corner on Leboh Temple - nearby and good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Nomad is ideally located ... so convenient :)

We stayed at Nomad for a few days and found Chris, the owner, to be very welcoming. It's located very near the central market and river, and has many bars to have a drink at within walking distance (thus, saturday nights can be a little noisy until 01 or 02am...).
This hostel really has a backpackers' edge to it, as you can always find people hanging out, watching movies, chatting...in the common room. We stayed in a private room, which we found to be clean and welcoming. Only downside, the partitions are VERY thin, so privacy is not really an option... You can find a TV and DVD players at all floors, with MANY movies to choose from. In the common area, you have a kitchen where you can cook, and there's bread, jam, fruit, coffee, tea... available for free all day long.
Of the many hostels we've stayed in in Malaysia (and in other countries), this is definetely one of the best! The friendly atmosphere, laid back decor, and central location make it an ideal place to stay!

Room Tip: For the private rooms, there's a 5Ringitt difference for rooms with or without a window (with window is 75ringitt, witout is 70). Honestly, the window doesn't add much as the other rooms are spacious enough and have good lighting.

You seldom find places where you feel as welcome as you do in Nomad! And the Man who runs this place, Chris, is just everything you need from staff. Wonderful person. The common area is really nice to spend time in, there is a good selection of guidebooks to read, tv to spend time watching international programs (English soccer, for example) and dvd's if you're exhausted from travelling around Kuching.

Cleanly enough, though as in the tropic, there could be the occational cockroach. Breakfast was kind of dull with only bread and bananas. The double/twin rooms are quite small. And the bed's are quite short. Might be hard sleeping here if you were over 190cm or 6'4''

Beautifully decorated backpacker's that looks more like a European home than a hostel. The owner Chris has so much pride in it and is the best host - taking us out to local market for food, sharing anecdotes, inviting us to guitar jam sessions with his mates etc - in fact, he totally made our stay and gave us a taste and fond memories of Borneo, where it was hard to get beneath the package-tourist surface. Oh, and there's free toast and coffee all day, plus home made pancakes administered by Chris. Unsurprisingly, the hostel walls feature a large number of marriage proposals by female guests. PS My ratings re value for money etc is based on backpacker accommodation and compared to the rest of Borneo, which is expensive.

This is a great place to stay for a few days. Just hang around and watch DVDs or TV (especially if the English football is on!) The rooms and bathrooms are clean and as good as any other place (breakfast is available all day, just help yourself). What makes Nomad stand out is the friendly, fun atmosphere. the staff are helpful and Chris is a fantastic host. I really enjoyed my stay here and can't recommend it enough.
