stayed a few nights. very very friendly, funny and helpful staff!! loved them. its not the cleanest place but they did something about it the minute they knew about it.( dust mites) I actually think the only reason y it was in that state is because there were so many people around all the time they couldn't clean it! (the rattan Matt) they did a swift cleaning the day I checked out cause the place was finally empty! real chilled place. amazing atmosphere. good value for money. would definitely recommend it.

I planned to stay in Kuching a few days, checked in to Nomad Borneo and left 14 days later. This place can easily become a home away from home.

The staff; Mr T, Chris, David, are super friendly, knowledgeable people and a big reason as to why you feel so comfortable here; the hostel has both a big heart and soul.

There's a big lounge were everyone can hang out, watch films, have a few drinks, read books, play the guitar and relax. There's a cute little patio, with a fish pond, connected to the lounge, so no need to run up and down stairs if you're a smoker. The second and third floor also has a small space where you can sit, if you want to be alone for a while.

The rooms are reasonably big with security lockers, a fan and an aircon and the toilets/showers are well functioning. Cleanliness is key and there's always toilet paper available.

The location is also perfect, just a few minutes walk from the waterfront, the cinema, food stalls, restaurants and the museums.

I'll be back!

I stayed about 1 week in Nomad and love it.

The rooms are clean and nice (even though some do not have a window), painted in warm colours and decorated with nice Iban paintings.

The staff, especially Chris, is incredibly friendly and helpful and will give you information and help you organizing your trips.

The breakfast (all day!) is great and there are always other travellers hanging around in the kitchen and the 'public area'. You can even cook your own food and rumour has it there is a brand new DVD player ... ;)

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and while we enjoyed the social aspect, i.e. meeting other travelers, we didn't care for the room. We had a double with aircon and no window. It was clean and well maintained but really tiny, with only enough room for the bed up against the wall and a small night stand. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, like lying on a lumpy board. It was painful. The bathroom was tiny, just a toilet and a shower head, but it was workable. The aircon worked great, although it doesn't take much to cool such a small space. Breakfast was white bread toast and jam with coffee, tea or milo, at a table in the common area, available all day and as much as we wanted. We saw Chris (mentioned in other reviews) around a few times but he only spoke with us once, briefly, so while we assume there was a lot of helpful info available, we didn't avail ourselves of it. I'll admit that we don't normally stay in hostels so we were surprised at the size of the room and quality of the bed after reading all the reviews. However, we liked the vibe and with a better bed and a window and we would probably have stuck around longer. As it was, we ended up moving next door to the Furama where we paid $10 more for a large upgraded ensuite room with a comfy bed and wifi in the room.

I visit Nomad since many years always when I am back in Kuching. The atmosphere is warmhearted and friendly, the place feels like a traveller's home and you usually meet great people. As there is a cozy public area there is enough space to meet and chat. Chris has always an open ear and lots of great travel tips what to do and what's on in Kuching. Enjoy a drink at Red Corner's bar just around the corner or help yourself for a relaxing cup of coffee on Nomad's own small terrace.

I have now been here twice. The first time for 10 days and the second for 5. The staff(Chris and team) are very friendly and helpful with any advice you need. The dorms are clean, have lockers and air con. Hot showers. Book exchange. Free 24 hour breakfast and tea/coffee. Free wifi. Lounge with tv and dvds. Kitchen facilities if you want to cook. Great place to meet other travelers. Easy walking distance to river, shops, museums, busses and a host of different restaurants and bars. Laundry service. Everything you need but the people who work here make it special. Thanks guys.
