“Not as good value as the hype suggests”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Prior to staying at this Tune hotel I had stayed at one in Hat Yai which was great and one in Ipoh which was terrible. This one is similar to Ipoh hard sell at moment of arrival, I had purchased a package which included TV and Wifi I never got the TV and had to go back to the desk for the wifi code. When I logged in it latched to my tablet, so it could only be used by that, the other three devices would need their own purchased, in all about 50RM a day when wifi is free in so many places, profit above fair play for customers. To add insult to injury we decided to use the lobby WiFi, once again the system used was designed to frustrate, capped at 20 minutes with an approximate log on of 7-20 minutes it is penny pinching gone mad. We used this about six times during our stay and nearly on every occation we were given a ticket with a log in that did not work, and on nearly every occation the staff were condescending and implied we we not doing it properly, every time we had to prove them wrong, more bad customer service.
The rooms are as small (cupboards) as Ipoh and well worn, however the room attendants were great and considering the linen had holes and was well past their throw away date they made it clean and presentable.
Its location is good being a short walk to Kuching waterfront and to be fair the excessive noise is caused mainly by the guests shouting in the corridors which they have put a sign up to address. However it seems they believe that only people who read english make noise, which I can confirm as incorrect as I hear none, but I heard a great deal in non english.
I would only recommend this hotel to single people travelling who do not need wifi. To all others I would advise looking elsewhere as this is a budget hotel but it strives to charge midrange prices, many new ones opening up and many that have been there a while. Happy travels.

I just like its uphill location and guess what its neighbour hotel? It's Hilton! It's at the center of Kuching Waterfront.

The building that it belongs looks under-developed, but there is a project just few feet from it at downhill - May looking better next new year.

My choice is single room and found the curtain is too short which is just fit to the window - Not enough to cover the outside corridor sports light brightness!

Room Tip: There are no much stories for choosing, but Tune quality is consistent.

Hi Twee Boon,

Thanks for the review and feedback about the curtains. We'll have a look at that and make the necessary changes. Apart from that, I read that you have had a pleasant stay.

We perhaps plan a trip during the Rainforest World Music Festival and crash with us. Book early in advance to secure a good. Connect with me directly for booking assistance.

See you soon.

This is our 1st visit at Tune Waterfront Kuching, as commented by everyone the location is right at the town center and easy access by walk to shopping mall, food court and of course The Waterfront.
Room is basic, reasonable size and clean, shower is so powerful compare with other Tune Hotels, I enjoy it.
You may need to add on the air-con cause we can feel the room is warm even though at night time.
The water dispense have been remove, if possible please to have at least one.
One negative is the transport service provided from airport to Tune hotel is not reliable, upon enquire the counter staff, he said he is alone and no one can fetch us to the hotel and asking us to wait, the worst is he also no idea when he can have a driver, end up we take a taxi, however the transfer service back to airport is good and on time.
The hotel management should review this issue with their business partner.

Best value for money for budget traveller. Most ideal location in Kuching. Within walking distance to shopping, best local food places and restaurants, and to local attractions for sightseeing. Don't expect great service as this hotel has the world's most unfriendly front office personnel. I think you have to pay for their greetings, their smiles, information you ask for and for their acknowledgements and thank yous.

Room Tip: Just ask for one

I walked around Kuching trying to find a decent hotel and saw about 12 hotels. I was amazed how bad some of the hotels were and they were charging over $65 a night.
I paid $17 for a single room at Tune. It was cheaper and better than any of the backpackers that i saw and some of the hotels that wanted over $50 a night.
Fantastic location close to the waterfront, clean, efficient service. love their concept of only paying for what you use.
I stayed in a single for 3 nights, which is small but still adequate. but I saw the double room and i think it would be incredibly tight if there was two people in there.

I have visited the city so many times & every time I will stay at Tune Hotel Waterfront Kuching for the most perfect location & the cheap hotel rate & value for money. It is so easy to wonder around the city as everything is within walking distance whether for the museums visit, souvenirs shopping, eating places & even the sunset river cruise. I need to highlight one thing though
... Those staying at Tune Hotel Kuching get 50% off the price of the Sunset River Cruise which is awesome. Just inform the Tune Hotel counter that you are going for the river cruise they will provide you with you with vouchers & you need to bring these vouchers to the River Cruise counter at the Waterfront and pay RM30 only per person ( after 50% discount ) instead of paying RM60 the normal price. And the sunset river cruise is totally worth it & you just can't leave the Cats City without having not to try the river cruise. Drinks & snacks ( traditional layered cakes) are provided. & some traditional ethnic dances on your way back will be performed on the upper deck.

If last time i always decide to stay at backpackers hostel, now i can have the same price at Tune Hotel. It's better as we will get 5 star bed in this kind of hotel.

Very strategic location, facing waterfront and near to attractions.

I love the power shower and the bed. Before you arrive, you can inform and request them for a room facing Hilton Hotel. Much better than facing other building.

Parking is not provided but they have parking spot outside of the building. Basement parking is not operated by Tune Hotel. It's RM2.50 per entry and RM5 if you overnight.

Well, i thought they provide hair dryer. No?
And for toiletries, they only provide small bar soap, small shampoo and a towel.

Overall, i like the stay during my trip to Kuching. Will definitely come back because it is cheap and clean :)
