perhaps it is the lack of restaurants like this in Kuching, dont get me wrong. i love the ambience but it was a little overpriced for small portions of food. i ordered the grilled chicken but the chicken seem to be deep fried instead of grilled. my spouse ordered a cheeseburger and the bread was too soft - didnt hold everything together. but i love the atmosphere and their resident cat (i think) is always on my lap (which is fine!)

Thank you for your review and we take it very seriously when "we" are not on top form. We have discussed the burger bun issue and sourced a new type of bun. As for the grilled chicken, i think it must have been sizzling chicken chop - which is panfried (lightly) and served on a very hot sizzling plate thus making it "fried" rather than grilled. Our other Chicken plate is Chicken Ratatouille which is oven baked wrapped over a Lemongrass Stalk - lovely…. We also have, on our Tapas menu, Chicken Boxing which is floured and definitely deep fried… Thank you for your review.

I really enjoyed this place, with great food, welcoming atmosphere and a great bunch of locals and expats. Chris, the owner from the UK, and his partner were great hosts, giving us some really useful tips on stuff to do in Kuching and letting us watch the Spurs on the TV! The food is a nice mix of well prepared, tasty tapas and classic dishes, the burger was excellent, good beers and local rice wine too. Jambu gets the restaurant/bar mix perfectly and will my first stop off for food in Kuching if we ever return.

I can recommend this place all day long.

Chris, Ash and the team are always very welcoming and friendly, there is always a great vibe and the design and decor is awesome with lots of cool artwork and furniture, The food here is of a very high standard with plenty of choices to suit everybody, The prices are very reasonable for the quality that you get and there is a good price range for all budgets... They even do children's meals... Beers start at around Rm8 making it an affordable night out for all, They also have recently acquired a pool table and to top it off it's free for everybody...!!

Weather you live in Kuching or you're just passing through you will always feel at home at Jambu.

Hi Paul,
Great to see you back at Jambu and hope your family visiting here had a fantastic trip in Borneo.
Jambu is more of a "neighbourhood" restaurant and we cater for basically everyone - families, individuals, groups of friends and from time to time tourists that manage to find us. Everybody is welcome and made to feel welcomed.
We are only 1km or so from the town centre, however this sometimes discourages guests to come as there are plenty of eateries and bars within walking distance from each other.
Our kind regards for the review and see you soon.

A great find - this fantastic "pub" is in a historic bungalow house and comes complete with a Kuching cat, who sleeps on the comfortable chair next to the pool table. We called in for a drink and found this place open at 11;55 pm and totally pumping. A very friendly ex-pat/local crowd, who all seemed to know each other however, made a big effort to make a new-comer to town feel welcome. Chris and his lovely wife Ash , are the most hospitable bar owners and make you feel so welcome. People were buying Drover Hats at the time (some ex pat guy walked in with a tall tower of Akubras) and it was the most hilarious evening. I will be back !!! Ps got some good tips on where to go for local jungle treking, and the best river jump-in point - only 45 mins out if town!!

Hi Steph,
Nice to have met you and thanks for taking the time to write your review. It really helps and provides reassurance to new guests who are looking to dine and wine etc etc.
Our cat "gigi" is the house cat - around 6 years now, so she is well settled in and loves her home.
I think the "Hat Man" sold a few in the space of 15mins - lovely Kangaroo skin.... i bought a "Drover" - one with mesh sides - good for the beach and jungle here.
Most weekends, we take a trip to the beach or jungle trek. To all new guests - come over midweek or a Friday evening and ask where the bbc (borneo beach club) is heading - usually a bbq with drinks.....
Dinner at Jambu starts at 6pm and usually finishes around 9.30/10pm - then the fun starts.....
Thank you once again... take care now....
