We stayed in one the garden cabins and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. Not one of these common hotels which are all alike but a charming guesthouse with a true identity. Great value, kind and helpfull staff. Annie who runs the place organizes also tours directly from the house and is helpfull to organize your transfers. The location is on a convenient walking distance from the waterfront. What else could you want ? Gerrit and Carla

I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms, which was big, with a nice big bathroom. The house is very nice as well, with a beautiful garden, about 10 minutes from the Waterfront area.

I did not mind, but it might be useful for others: the house is very close to a busy main road, so some might find it noisy at night.

Staff is very nice, friendly. They can arrange reasonably priced airport pickup, tours to all major points of interest.

Breakfast is optional for extra fee, but I think this is good, as you don't have to pay for it in the room price, when you decide not to have it. I read that previously you had to pay extra for wifi, in December 2013, it was included in the room rate.

We stayed at the Fiarview Guesthouse in July 2013 and found it to be a great base to explore and enjoy Kuching. We had one of the garden cabins which, though basic, was large and airy with a good bathroom, and very private. With insect repellent, the outside balcony was a great place to relax in the warm evening air with a beer. It was very good value - we can't remember having to pay for the cooked breakfast or wifi (and if we did have to pay extra, it was not enough for us to notice it spoiling the value for money).

The guesthouse is only 10 minutes walk through a very interesting park to the city centre, malls and waterfront. (Some reviews make it sound like the guesthouse is out in the boonies -- but we found it perfectly placed for an easy walk to the city). The area around the guesthouse is a quite interesting middle-class district - great for the morning walk or jog.

Annie (and Ensor!) was very helpful and could arrange anything for us. The orangutan park, dayak village, etc tours were a breeze and we were very pleased we left the trip and overnight stay at Bako Park to Annie - thanks to her it was great adventure and went off without a hitch.

Annie arrange easy pickup and return trip to airport. Easy email reservation (don't expect an elaborate online commerce site) that worked well.

Room Tip: We like the garden bungalows.

We made an easy reservation by email and Annie was at the airport to pick us up. The house is just outside the city centre, but within a 10 min walk of restaurants, Waterfront, etc. In the morning they serve breakfast. Not the regular toast and butter, but also fried eggs an fruits! Ensuite rooms are spacious (with even a bathtub) airco and fan.
Annie, Eric and their family went on holliday for a few days, so we had the complete house to ourselves. Annie can arrange all kind off trips for reasonable prices, including Bako, Wetlands and Gunung Gading, in which we were lucky to spot a blooming Rafflesia.
I can highly reccommend this place if you stay in Kuching for a few days to visit the National Parks.

Annie was a lovely host. Ansen picked us up from airport after midnight and was very efficient.
We stayed in the downstairs bedroom with ensuite, fan and A/C. For the price it was a good room, very large and had a lockable wardrobe.
After a visit to Bako National Park we stayed there for another night in the smaller guest house in the garden. Same price $90 Ringgit per night it was very clean and had ensuite. Also a nice area to sit outside and read. You could receive the internet from the house there, but signal was quite weak.

I did think the price of internet could be included in the room price.

We had no issues with noisy road sleeping in the front ground floor or the guest house. By the time we had walked around Kuching and returned we slept soundly each night!

the guest house is quite near the towncentre. We walked into Kuching everyday and it only took 10 minutes to reach the centre or a couple more minutes to the waterfront. Of course it is hot walking around but thats what you expect in a tropical climate.
Very near to the guest house is the Kopi O Corner cafe serving Malaysian food at very reasonable prices so you could have that option if you did not want breakfast at the guest house.

Annie took us to the airport on our departure, very reasoanble price.
I would stay there again without hesitation.

I was a bit disappointed by Fair view guest house. The welcome is indeed friendly but the place can be noisy as the house is near to a main circulation road (it is still a walking distance from the main points of interest in Kuching). You have to add the price of the breakfast and the price of internet connexion, which seems a bit strange nowadays. The rooms are simple but clean.

Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate it.

"Getting a bit old" - Yes, this is a very old heritage house.

"can be noisy" - I agree, at times, if you are extremely sensitive.

"have to add the price of breakfast" - it depends on your perspective. Not everyone wants to pay for a room with breakfast included. We want to give our guests the option to choose whether to eat here or try something local outside.

"add the price of Internet connection" - from this month onwards, we are giving free wifi service to all our guests. But we still charge for the PC service.

We will always look for ways to improve as well as keeping it sustainable.

We loved our stay at the Fairview. Annie, Eric and Anson are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and clean. The garden is beautiful. We had very nice breakfasts for a very good price. A big plus is the location as it is close to Kuching Waterfront, the Museums and the main shopping area.
It felt like home and we hope to go back one day as Kuching is a charming city. We'll recommend the Fairview to anybody going to Kuching.
