I have to say we were a bit disappointed with our visit to the Matang Wildlife centre.
It looked promising, with a lovely, large building (the information centre), but on entry, there was not a great deal of information and no one else was around.
We headed over to the sunbear enclosure, that gave us a good opportunity to view one of the bears at quite close range.
Next to them, were some Orangutans. (Doris, Katrine and Peter, according to the lady at the gate entrance!)
The was Aman (the man of the forest) in his cage. I did feel rather sorry for him.
Some birds in cages, and surprisingly one that could talk "Lock the door"!!!
No other areas were open to the public. (Crocs etc)
There were some other orangutans, that were not on display.
Overall, the place seemed a bit 'lifeless'. No other tourists around and no staff to explain their work.
I'm sure some good work does go on there to rehabilitate some animals, but I think they are missing opportunities to get their messages 'out there' and perhaps raise extra funds??
Based on what we saw that day, I wouldn't make the effort to go there again.
