It's about time Kuching Golden Triangle has something besides kopitiam n Mcdonalds. Food is nice and the atmosphere is very urban. Highly recommend.

We just returned from an enjoyable meal at
Colugos Bistro & Grill. My wife and I could not
decide what type of dinner we wanted so the fact
that the Bistro has western, Indonesian and Malaysian items
on the menu fit the bill. I had the beef rendang and she
combined two appetizers to have a very western
chicken fingers and french fries.

We enjoyed all the dishes, as mentioned in another
review the portions aren't overly large but are certainly sufficient.
If you have a large appetite you might have room for one
of their desserts. We took a slice of apple pie
and an incredibly rich chocolate brownie back to the hotel
for a late night snack.

Just enjoyed a fabulous meal at this bistro and decided to google the locale and found one review which would echo our sentiments exactly. The staff were courteous and friendly without being overbearing and the service was very good. The food was well presented and unlike the previous reviewer we would say more than ample for the average appetite. The statement about the staff needing to be a bit more pre-emptive still holds true as we had to ask for salt & pepper but this is a minor inconvenience compared to the overall experience. If you are looking for an enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price then we would recommend the Colugos Bistro & Grill

The 3-week old (as of 15 Aug 2013) Colugos Bistro and Grill is actually a 2-in-1 restaurant having its other name as Banyuwangi Indonesian Restaurant. Thus, there are 2 sets of menus, one western and the other Indonesian within the same locale. Make no mistake - this is NOT a fusion restaurant. Location is good - on the ground floor of Tun Jugah Centre fronting Sarawak Plaza in the traditional heart of Kuching's hotel, shopping and entertainment district. Thus, the clientele is a mix of locals and tourists.

Ambience is contemporary with soft lighting, dark wood panelings with a hint of abstract artistry. One can choose to dine indoors or al-fresco. The menu offer a wide variety of western and Indonesian favourites. One can choose to stick to either one or order a mix of both. A typical western choice might be mushroom soup (made from freshly minced mushroom) or cream of broccoli, caesar, waldorf or avacado salad with Thai mango seabass or chicken alfredo for mains. Portions are not large but adequate for this reviewer. Big eaters however may need more than one entree to fill up.

I would say that this place has potential. Given that it is only 3 weeks old, it has won this reviewer's "will come back" award :) Service staff was courteous but can do better to be preemptive of customers' needs e.g. supply salt and pepper without these being requested and serve the meal in the order of drink-appetizer-entree-main-desert as opposed to whatever the kitchen happens to push out first.

The owner has the good sense to go around thanking and encouraging feedback from patrons but ultimately the place must be able to deliver on good service and good, affordable cuisine in an ambiance and locale that is already its winning points.
