“I wish there was a Bunkers in every town??!!!”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

I made a booking with Booking.com, and then needed to change dates - no problem via this site.
Any hesitations about staying here, were soon gone once we settled our things inside.
My husband and I had a 'double pod' on the upper level, near the reception area.
They are a 'bit squeezy' once you get your bags up there too, but I think they are great!!!
The linen was spotless, the beds were comfy and so were the pillows!!
For a small fee we hired towels which were also of a good standard.
The air con worked really well (very hot outside!) as did the fans. Plenty of lighting from your bedside once the main lights went out, and a security box in the bed head of each bed that was accessed using the electronic bracelet you receive once you book in.
In fact, the security was really good all round. There is someone at the desk 24hrs with an electronic door that can be released from the service desk or with your electronic bracelet. So people cannot just walk in or out the building unnoticed.
There are I think, two toilets and maybe four showers? But we never had to wait for either of these.
Everywhere was very clean, a lounge room and tv area, a kitchen area with hot/cold water, microwave etc, and table and stools.
The wifi was really good. And as others have said, the 7 eleven is almost next door and the food court is close. We had a good meal in the nearby restaurant.
It's a stones throw from the cultural village which had the rainforest music festival happening while we were there. Without the festival on, it would probably be a very quiet place to stay.
It's close to the beach for a paddle and sunset views.
There is an office near the 7 eleven where you can book some boat tours, but we booked ours through Permai resort which is close by.
The staff were all cheerful and helpful.
I would definitely stay there again, and as I first said, I wish there were more 'Bunkers' in other towns??!!! - Especially of this standard??!! Thanks guys!!

Room Tip: The upstairs 'pods' I think offer more privacy??

Pleasantly surprised by the place. Clean sheets, bathroom and the whole place, in general. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Transportations available for a quick tour of Kuching. I won't mind staying at this place again in the near future.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It has the perfect location within Damai Central which is the hub of all activity. The sea is right behind; Sarawak cultural village just opposite. Many food options within Damai Central and a 7-11 next door. The staff are all very friendly. I booked a single pod on the top so there was some privacy. Though I would have preferred if they have locks for the rooms and curtains that go all the way down. I was alone most of the days, but one day it was quite occupied. So privacy and quiet can be slightly disturbed then. Tends to get quite cold at night. Shared bathrooms, but are maintained clean. Was never an issue. Can't say though if it is fully booked. I also had a minor problem with a couple of ant attacks in my room. Also one night rats were going crazy on the roof- but if you sleep deeply should not be a problem. For 50 ringgit, it is a steal. With all 5-star priced resorts nearby. Damai Puri is just a few minutes walk, and Permai Rainforest is less than 5 minutes away. Security of items was not a problem as they provide a safe locker in your room for your stuff. Wifi was very good. I would recommend if you are looking for a cheap and convenient option.

Room Tip: Room on the top. A single pod if you are travelling solo.

Enjoyed my one night stay at BB bunkers. We stayed on a busy Saturday evening when a festival was taking place.
Very clean, modern open plan design which is interesting to look at, but not the best for sleep quality as there are potentially 20 or so others making noise in the same room as you!
Location is perfect- beach 20 metres away, Mount Santubong trail 15 min walk away, food outlets and shops within a few metres.
Each bed has a locked safe, good bathroom facilities, very clean, effective air con, comfortable beds. 50 ringgit each for a double bed.

Its like camping out, indoors!

This area, Damai Beach, is surrounded by high-priced resort hotels. BB Bunkers is a good budget alternative.

You could easily spend a week here, plenty to do in the area:
- Boat trips from Permai Rainforest Resort
- Walk or bike the trails along Mount Santubong
- Hugely popular Sarawak Cultural Village
- Sometimes there are open air concerts nearby
- Golf at nearby Damai Country Club (open to all, and very affordable)
- Walking along Mt Santubong, walking back along the road is no worries, there is a sidewalk (of sorts), and street lights all the way.
- Rent kayaks or mountain bikes nearby
- Next to a 7-11 for snacks, food court for lunches or dinners, or try one of the 5-7 better restaurants in the three resorts nearby.
- Nearby is Escobar club, with dinner and drinks. Below, and on the beach, another bar offers great views.

Bring: camera! your shower shoes, soaps and toiletries. They charge for a towel. Bring your breakfast needs. They provide hot and cold water, fridge, microwave, cups, utensils. They have umbrellas you can borrow.

Secret Tip...don't tell anyone! Next to the Bunkers is a 7-11. Their is no alcohol available there. However, diametrically across from 7-11 there is a souvenir shop. Inside the shop there is a cooler. Inside the cooler there is beer, 7MR/can. Do with this information what you will.

We all loved our stay here! We had the place to ourselves most of the stay, and it was so clean, quiet and comfortable! The shared/openness of the place was a little unsettling to start, having children to consider, but it was safe, secure and friendly, and we would return! Thank you to Farhah, Peter and Alfred for makin our stay great!

I had this whole place to myself. I booked through agoda and got a single pod at the top. Found the a/c to be a bit cold, so used my sleeping bag. There is a food court and 7-11 close by. There is also a dorm option which i didnt realise when booking online. Found the pod at the top to be warmer than below. They have an indoor clothesline in the bathroom, hot showers, free drinking water. I got the k15 bus from kuching to santabong village and then got a ride for the remaining 4km to here on the back of a scooter. To leave you can get a shuttle from cultural centre across the road earliest 1.15pm or the damai tourist beach resort next door at 9.15am. 12rm. I stayed here to do the mt sunabong trek. You can also do walks at the permai rainforest resort. Saw some little black monkeys there.
