We stayed in one of the beautiful Treehouses, was a great experience. The restaurant is good and there are a few activities organised by the Hotel (high roping, boat tours). Its close to the Sarawak Cultural Village, which is worth a visit, and to Mount Santubong, where you can do a jungle trekking. But there is not much more to do, so i would not stay longer than one week.

We had a great stay with the family at this resort. We took our 4 kids (10, 8, 8 and 5) who weren't sure what to expect but quickily adapted. They had trouble choosing between the jungle pool and two beaches. It was nice staying somewhere that didn't have TV, photos or WIFI (although they do have it at the reception and the restaurant).

Staff were very friendly. We stayed in the cabin room and found it very suitable for our needs.

After arriving from a 5 star hotel in KL for 2 nights my family (daughter 21 and twin sons 15) and husband were a little apprehensive about our pending 2 nights in Tree house's. Within the first 5 minutes of arriving I knew they would absolutely love it. A well deserved holiday Christmas break away from the usual stresses of London city life and an opportunity to experience nature up close was the plan. Permai did not disappoint in any aspect of our stay. The food was cooked to our personal requirements and every meal was delicious. We wanted Malaysian food and we tasted a variety of dishes over 2 days. Big thanks to Cathy for looking after us she was very friendly and accommodating. The activities were exhilarating and again very personal. We ventured on the Waterfall Walk up through the Rainforest which was quite demanding but we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all gained a huge sense of fulfilment. But the best was yet to come.... in the afternoon we had a high ropes course which turned into a family team building event! My only concern on this was the lack of assistance from our instructor which resulted in me quitting!! Not being good with heights and not sure of what to do on each section as my husband and the instructor had charged ahead... I thought it best to let the boys and my daughter take over. They were all very brave!! In the evening we ventured out on the evening sunset cruise which resulted in spotting monkeys, crocodiles and fireflies ... another highlight. We also stopped and had a stroll around the water village, meeting the local people and children that live there. Wonderful! Our guides were very experienced and made the trip fun and interesting. We certainly slept well at night with the sound of the waves on the beach below us it really was an experience with nature. The Treehouse's were fun, basic but clean and definitely the right choice of accommodation for our family. All staff were friendly, helpful and fun. We are hopefully going to return one day for sure as we all agreed it was the highlight of our Malaysian holiday.

Room Tip: Tree Houses add to the experience

Retreat might be a better term for this place than resort--but I mean that in the best way possible. The place was good for the souls of large city dwellers like ourselves. We stayed in Tree House #2 for an extraordinary three nights, but we wished we had booked for longer. We were sad to move on. We were visiting during the low season, and even though it was the monsoon we had plenty of good weather to enjoy the rainforest and the beach. We loved exploring between the rocks of beach #2. We were lucky it rained at night (we enjoyed one particularly dramatic thunderstorm but that was an experience). We loved being surrounded by the rainforest at the edge of the sea. Even walking on the bricked/paved paths between the cabins was a flora/fauna viewing experience. We didn't try the Jungle Pool, but it was popular with other guests and all the rain kept the water flow pretty fresh--a bit like swimming in the pool beneath a water fall. It was glorious to sit on our balcony and watch birds and monkeys in the trees and also glorious to fall asleep to the waves. The tree houses are designed so well with screened windows all around and we did not need air-conditioning even once during our stay. The restaurant menu was modest but had excellent service. We loved the Chinese and Malay dishes. The Permai staff are just lovely, friendly, and helpful. It was a pleasure to work with Cathy (Katie) who helped us with the ropes course and two mangrove tours (one in the evening and the other during the day). My husband and I both got out on the resorts waterfall trail and had a great time. I think I wouldn't attempt it with a child younger than seven, unless he or she is well-accustomed to walks--(there is a nature trail that we didn't get a chance to try (again, we should have stayed longer!)). A few ropes on steeper sections of the waterfall trail might be too tough for littler ones. A small playground (a space that the resort could expand) amused my daughter. We really wanted to get out on the kayaks, but the water was never really calm enough unless you were ready to battle the waves (probably not wise with a young child). Permai is a short walk from the Sarawak Cultural Village and the front desk offers discount tickets--a good cloudy day plan. We hope to return during a different month and try some of the activities we missed. Thank you, Permai, for making such a unique, welcoming, nature-loving place!

Room Tip: The treehouses comfortably house a couple and one child. The cabins are very basically furnished and...

Had an amazing time at Permai Rainforest Resort.

We stayed in treehouse 10, which was very private and spacious. The windows/balcony doors all have fly screens, allowing you to open up the majority of the room to enjoy the outside environment. We saw monkeys.

The cafe had a great variety of food and was reasonably priced, we ended up eating all our meals here.

The swimming pool was a swimming hole in the river, it was freezing, so we used the resort pool next door which was very nice. However, we were very glad to be staying at the much more natural permai resort. would definately book here again, a very relaxing time.

Room Tip: treehouse 10 is the furtherest away/most private.

Coming from Singapore it was a great experience for my family and I . Both my sons age 11 and 16 yrs had an adventurous time at the high ropes course. However, safety level can be improved. There were insufficient instructors deployed to the site when we were there. The Two-Room Air-Cond Cabin were simple, basic but comfortable. Service was exemplary. The Reception/ Front Desk Manager Hanafi is commendable for his tireless efforts and is very accomodating. He performs multiple tasks and yet remains friendly, calm and very professional. We stayed there for 5 days. On the last day, we booked a day use for the Tree House. It was really nice. Something we can never get in Singapore. The forest is in its natural state and the frequent sighting of monkeys, squirrels makes it even more exciting. We went for the Dolphin Sighting and Mangrove - crocodile 'hunting' , saw fire flies and Proboscis Monkeys. The Rainforest Cafe was O.K. but we also went to the Damai Puri Resort just beside Permai Rainforest to have dinner. The Ku Restaurant serves great Indian and other Asian Food. If you want special food, arrange with Hanafi prior to your trip. Set meals can be prepared and served.

An incredible way to begin our first trip to Borneo. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, doing everything they could to make our stay pleasurable, from Hanifa the office manager to Cheryl, catering manager. The location is superb and the stay in the tree house unforgettable. It is very comfortably furnished in a manner sympathetic to the natural surroundings and we enjoyed our authentic Malaysian food and walks along the beach. The night time rainforest walk with a guide was an experience not to be missed and a bonus was being able to stroll to the Sarawak Cultural Village. The well marked, yet challenging rain forest trail was wonderful: how often can you walk for three hours listening to the forest wild life without seeing a single person?

Room Tip: If possible book one of the tree houses
