“Very relaxing”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We stayed in this hotel for two nights after our interesting visit to the Iban people in the jungle. We really could relax in this hotel as it is such a quite place. The hotel has a nice small pool and some little areas around the pool to sit. The rooms are very nice and quite big. Unfortunately there is only wifi at the public areas of the hotel. The hotel offers diners, you really have to taste the 8-course menu "Taste of Borneo" as it was very delicious.

Was really surprised of the plc. Although its hidden but that ensures privacy. If you're looking to relax & chill this is the right plc to be. Really wished I stayed an extra night just to fully enjoy the hotel.
Some advice: Bring insect repellent & call ahead for guide to the place.

Stayed here with my wife and son aged 9 for 3 days and had a lovely peaceful time.

The staff are all well trained and it shows with the great service and amazing food on offer, we did the tasting menu one evening and all the courses were superb with good culinary skills on display.

We stayed in the end suite with a separate room next to it for my son, there is a nice wraparound balcony for relaxing on or a lovely pool with cool hammocks scattered around in the shade.

Well worth the visit out of bustling Kuching.

Room Tip: Go for the end suites

Are you ready for a tranquil getaway without wailing babies, a karaoke bar, gift shops or even a tv in your room?
The village house is the perfect place for a peaceful holiday. They have a medium sized swimming pool, an activity room (board games, book, a tv) and a bar. Other than that, its just you, your thoughts and the beautiful gardens.
As the Village House is located at Santubong Village, there wont be any restaurants or shops around so you will be spending all your time there.
The food is ok. Definitely hotel prices (e.g. RM20++ for a fried noodle). We had the BLT (ok), beef rendang ( the beef was a bit tough and the veg smothered in too much oyster sauce), fried bee hoon (generous portion but had too much Maggi seasoning in it). Breakfast is complimentary and satisfying (toast, sausages, eggs, fruit, tea/coffee)
Some issues we had: the pool water was clean but murky. Our water heater didn't work.

Recommended length of stay: 1 or 2 nights

Tip: Do bring ear plugs. The buildings are made of wood and you can hear people walking aroun, cutlery clinking, early morning prayers fm the mosque, etc

The Village House is one of those amazingly relaxing places where you don't actually have to leave at all during your stay. The staff are helpful, the food is tasty and cheap (by Australian standards), the rooms are comfortable and the pool is amazing.

We were quite happy floating in the pool and relaxing on the banana lounges and hammocks until each meal was served.

Definitely recommend and will definitely return if I visit Kuching in the future.

As the taxi took us further & further away from the city centre, we wondered if we made the right decision. Definitely yes, yes yes! If you're looking for rockstar treatment with a friendly, personal touch, this is the place to be. We didn't want to leave. There were only every two or three other couples around the pool / in the restaurant - you can almost pretend you own the place (with your own personal chef & concierge to arrange you trips to local attractions). Loved the sense that we were in an a (very) upmarket longhouse; the well stocked library (perfect for lazing by the infinity pool), the fabulous food & how easy it was to see the sights with everything handled by the team. Thanks to Simmi, "handsome Ansome", Druscilla & others behind the scenes that made our stay so delightful.

Room Tip: You can't miss - they're all good.

I left Kuching a year ago having lived and worked here for more than 7 years without even knowing that this secluded holiday haven has been around here all along...until recently when my partner and I decided to come back for holidays and found this gorgeous resort on the website. The drive from Kuching town to the resort was pleasant but to search for the resort's exact locatiob was a great challenge... in a very good way. It is so secluded and private, so much so that it is neatly tucked and hidden in the midst of the local Malay villages, and when we stopped to ask for directions, not even the villagers nor the police knows of their existence. Well, I would call that the price to pay in exchange of a real private, peaceful, rejuvenating and relaxing vacation experience. Yet, when we finally found the resort and parked in front of the grand entrance, I am still unamused and rather sceptical by its outlook because it simply looks to me like any other ordinary houses in the neighborhood until... the beautiful and sweet smiling hostess Zin opened the big and thick teak wood door and welcomed us with great hospitality and warmth gestures. As she led us through the neatly tiled garden path fronted by greeneries on each side, we finally came to the open area where our eyes meets the real enchanting surroundings that worth it all. All the scepticism earlier that I had as I stand outside the entrance just now simply melted and disappeared and I am immediately enchanted by this hidden gem. The gorgeous blue pool right in the middle of the courtyard looks absolutely calm and inviting, as we quieten our hearts and immersed ourselves in the tranquility of Mother Nature, being only accompanied by the smooth flowing sound of water, birds chirping in the garden and the beautiful symphony of traditional Sarawakian sape music. All the challenges that we faced before reaching here worth nothing now knowing that it is an awesome vacation that we will enjoy here in this gorgeous and beautiful hideaway...the staffs were absolutely friendly and helpful and is always cheerful... Thank you, The Village House...we will definitely come back...
