“Kids loved it and so did we”
Reviewed 11 November 2010

Damai is about an hours drive from Kuching . The resort is located right on the beach and next to a spectacular mountain(Mt Santubong). I think if someone wanted to get away from the city and just relax at a beach resort, this is the place, because it is away from everything. The kids loved the 2 pools , one of which was specifically for children (with water slides and fountains). The rooms were nice with beautiful seaside/mountain views from the balcony. The breakfast was very enjoyable, and they other meals were also very good. The food prices are quite expensive in the hotel if you compare it with what you could pay in downtown Kuching. The beach is average, with the water pretty silted from the nearby rivers, no surf or big waves. Overall , a very plesant and relaxing stay. Didnt go on the mountain jungle trek but it is offered and looks fun.

We had our stay on Damai Puri on last weekend. It was really a splendid experience.

The room was large, clean and nice. The hotel staffs were friendly in making sure everything I requested for was perfectly done. The foods in the restaurants were very yummy and nice, providing some delicious famous Malaysian local cuisine. There was a gym too, my husband went there every evening for a short work out. There were table tennis, ping pong and bicycle facilities and my kids enjoyed riding bicycle along the beach, especially during the evening.

The beach was clean and awesome. Meanwhile, the swimming pools are awesomely huge. Swimming in the infinity pool to witness the sunset was a great experience and my kids enjoyed so much in the big pool.

Furthermore, I went to the spa with my husband. There was a spa village within the resort and it was very Balinese with beautiful landscape surroundings. The spa was very refreshing and we were totally relaxed by the expertise of the spa therapist.

It’s a nice place to get away with. I will recommend for family, couples and basically everyone. Thumbs up!!!

We had a great couple of days here because the pool and beach are lovely, but we did not feel welcome at all. Great facilities which are slowly decaying.
Reception area is smart but leaks in the rain and the reception staff were repeatedly abrupt and unhelpful (total contrast to almost everyone else we met in Sarawak). The pool is huge, amazing and clean, but closes early and the surrounding lawn hasn't been mown for a long time. Great showers but the airconditioning unit dripped onto the floor continuously and our sliding door didn't fully close. Five bars/restaurants, tennis courts, spa etc but all massively overpriced so totally empty (and mostly closed) - the one time we braved an empty bar our cocktails had undetectable alcohol and we were so closely watched we felt quite uncomfortable and left quickly.
Go for lazy beach/pool days and don't expect anything else. Eat outside the hotel.

I got a package for 3 nights and get 1 hour free massage at the spa village. Value for money from AsiaTravel.com. Kid House still not operate since our last stay (Feb). Internet is unfortunately down!!!!!!!! No cartoon channel for children. Air-con at the Elements Restaurant has some problem...the longer you sit in the restaurant the most warmer you felt. Menu at the restaurant stays the same as few years ago. Buffet Dinner were fair. The last night of staying, we couldn't sleep due to the huge noise from the next door or the room one floor up of ours. I phoned the reception twice and got no improve. At the end, I have to personally walked to the reception counter to make a complaint. The noise stopped about 3am.

Move to the Resort after 3 hectic days in the city. What a great way to unwind and rest tired feet.
The pool was absolutely fabulous, but was spoilt with the weekend crowd. Too many families for the Eid holidays.

But still very relaxing.

The jungle trek up the Mt Santbong was good. The waterfall was great, closest to nature I ever experience.

Fried Ox Tail at the Ku Restaurant is a killer..... must try. I just love it.

Internet in room not working so well..too slow.... this one at Business center is better, at least connection for me to check my mail....

Karaoke lounge too noisy....... bad singers croaking away... stay out when other guest are singing!!!!!!!!

Staff excellent, friendly and sincere. Will extend stay for 2 more days......

We came here from Singapore for a short break, booked at almost the last minute after trawling the internet. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, but not very efficient. The hotel could do with some refurbishment and the cleaning left something to be desired. Rooms are adequate and the aircon, which turns on automatically when you leave, was ferocious! Do insist on a seaview though.

We had one dinner at the hotel the day we arrived - OK but, like breakfast, nothing special. It was strangely deserted but we learnt that most people eat out! The other nights we went out to the local chinese seafood restaurants that are far from luxurious but serve excellent seafood at bargain prices.

Bar prices are reasonable for this type of hotel, but if you like anything other than beer, bring your own duty free alcohol.

The larger of the two pools was superb - just as well since the small beach is not treated to kill off the sandflies. The number of sunloungers overlooking the sea was limited. But happily, even when the hotel filled up at the weekend (loads of kids!), the mainly Malay and Chinese guests preferred to stay out of the sun. It's from this vantage point that we saw the most magnificent sunsets ever!

Apart from the hotel, there are plenty of trips to take - the orang utan reserve, the jungle, Kuching (which is about an hour's drive away) - not forgetting the Malay cultural village 5 minutes walk away: a sort of see all Malaysia in half a day theme park.

Overall a pleasant and relaxing experience. Good value if you use the internet and don't pay the rack rate

i will begin with the bad
1) the hotel is like a ghost hotel.Only me and my wife were in the restaurant and the pool for 2 days
2)the facilities are not working ( the bars are closed, only 1 restaurant and the others are closed)
3) the rooms have odour and marks on the wall and the bathroom smells. The furniture are old
4)the beach is not for swimming but only to look from outside
5)is far from the center

the good
1) the place is very nice with lots of trees and very good sunset with 2 swimming pool
