Our 3rd visit to Maafushivaru, and although it's only 4.5 stars, if should be five! It is a friendly, relaxed, peaceful island, where they don't want to keep cleaning your sunglasses! It is clean, well organised, with plenty of reasonably priced trips to take out. Returners have a free candlelit dinner on the beach, and discounts on bottles of wine. The free sunset cruise is always worth a try with sparkling wine to enjoy. There is a small pool, which we never thought we would enjoy, with the Indian ocean close by, but it's good fun, and near the bar! There are always plenty of places to sit, and always a plentiful supply of towels. The sand is soft and immaculate, and a great point is that you can walk all around the island.Food is excellent, and a good variety, with a la carte options and the Tepenyaki restaurant to try. The all inclusive option is very good value, and the bar options very generous.Good cocktails, proprietary brands, and most of the drinks menu is on the all inclusive.Rooms are bright , clean and airy. The sister island is lovely, and must be visited. The reef is easily accessible, but not over exciting these days, as the fish in the Maldives seem to have diminished. There is live music a couple of times a week, which needs to be more often, and a small Maldivian evening with locals showing how they live and work.
The staff are all friendly, relaxed, and cannot do enough for you without being overwhelming.
On Maafushivaru, you can have what you want, when you want and where you want!!

I stayed there 3 nights in water villa, The size and condition of the villa is reasonable good but not excellent. The price is still acceptable with the package of FB. As there is a distance from the resort to Male, cost of water plane need to be considered. The restaurant and bar are also OK but still don't feel should use the word - excellent. Most of the activities are not daily, so it is important to stay there long enough or reach there at right time. Overall, it is still a reasonable good resort.

We came here at the end of June to July 4th for 8 days as part of our honeymoon. Wow! The island is beautiful. Around every corner is a view that could come straight out of a travel brochure (with no photo shopping!). The water was crystal clear and a perfect turquoise and the beach was pure white. We chose it as it was small (only 50 villas) and felt exclusive. In fact the only times you saw more than a couple of people was at mealtimes! It is the rainy season - we had one day where it rained all day and a few showers on some of the other days but it didn't spoil our holiday at all.

We stayed in a beach villa (108 - really private - highly recommend it if you can request a villa to stay in). It was larger than we expected with a superking size bed, sofa, large bathroom (with indoor AND outdoor showers!) and a great view down to the beach. The island is sprayed once a week so there are no mosquitos (or other creepy crawlies!)

The staff throughout our holiday were lovely. Very friendly and attentive - apparently there are 145 staff on the island so over 1 per guest! We were pleased that there was a Kuoni rep on site as she could answer any queries we had.

We went all inclusive and were really pleased that we had. The food was great - lots of variety - the curries in particular were excellent! Also, all of the cocktails are part of the all inclusive package - so we did our best to work through the extensive list (think we almost had all of them). The bar staff were great and even made up one of my favourites that wasn't on the list (Amaretto, Pineapple and Grenadine - tastes just like a Cherry Bakewell).

We were complete snorkelling amateurs. Snorkelling gear (and life jackets) are complementary and we made good use of them. We took the beginners snorkelling lesson with Amanda the Oceonographer who showed us the basics of snorkelling and then took us out on to the outside of the house reef. The reef is amazing - so many different fish. It was like swimming in an aquarium! We saw a turtle and white tipped reef sharks. I think it is a hobby we will continue to pursue - but might not be the same trying to snorkel in the UK :)

I had my birthday while we were on holiday - loads of staff wished me happy returns, our bed was made up with lots of flowers on it and I even got a cake - lots of lovely touches that made the resort so special to us.

Also tried the spa for a hot stone massage - very relaxing!! Not that we needed any more relaxing as the resort was so chilled out :)

We will definitely return in the near future!

I travelled with 2 other friends at the end of May.
We got upgraded to a Water Villa, which was very good. The room was not the newest and not the most well-maintained, but the scenery outside the water villa made up for it - vast stretches of open blue waters and clear blue skies. Our Villa also has a ladder that allows us to descend into the sea to swim, wade or snorkel any time we want. I particularly loved the deck chairs on the terrace outside our room; I can just lie there hours on end and feel my stress melt away.
Our stay was a Full Board package, and I must say that the food, though not fanciful, was functional. After a while, we noticed a particularly Indian slant to the way the food was cooked (despite the main restaurant having different themes such as "Mediterranean" and "Mexican" on different nights). The soup tasted the same after a few meals, despite having different labels on different days. There was also a noticeable lack of choices for seafood (besides a small variety of fish) and fruits (besides oranges and papaya). But it kept us full on 4 consecutive days. The bar, on the other hand, was excellent, and there was a wide selection of alcoholic drinks on the menu to appease every taste bud.
There are not many activities available on the resort. We were told that there were no motorized sports available, so what's left were diving, snorkeling and general swimming, and we did a little bit of all. We also took a boat ride to a nearby island but we were stuck there for 3 hours with nothing to do, so we ended up taking pictures and videos of ourselves. I also booked a Thai massage session at the Spa, which was very good.
Throughout our stay we met many staff who were very polite and service-oriented. Particularly the staff at the main restaurant who remembered and set up our "favourite table", the housekeeping staff who will always greet us and smile while we walk by, and those at the bar who enthusiastically recommended the best drinks for us. However, it was until the third day that we realized that the Austrian Hotel Manager was with us at the resort all along. We noticed him on the day of arrival, but we didn't know who he was as there was no introduction or communication from him. On Day 2 we had a bee problem outside our Villa (which might be an indication of a bee nest hiding somewhere), highlighted the problem to the Hotel Manager but he shrugged the issue away with a nonchalant "we will try to do something about it". I noticed, however, that he chatted with a few Caucasian guests at various points in time. Perhaps he was really selective in his customer engagement?
Overall, a resort in paradise, but we were quickly reminded of how (bad) service can make or break an experience. On the last day on the boat ride to the seaplane I finally managed to find out the name of the Hotel Manager from a Filipino staff - Ronald (or was it Donald?). We'll definitely be back in Maldives again, but probably not at this resort.

This trip was better than we expected and it was wonderful from start to finish. We got to relax after a very long trip from the states in the resorts lounge while we waited for our flight to the resort. Once we reached Maafushivaru the staff greeted us warmly by showing us around than bringing us to our water villa. The Water villa was amazing! Being over the water was the reason we picked the Maldives for our honeymoon. The villa is very spacious and has a great view over the water. Having access to the water was so much fun. Just climb down into the water to cool off after getting some sun on the private deck or to start some snorkeling.

We did the all inclusive package for the 7 nights we stayed there and it was a great choice. We didn't have to worry about the an ever growing tab to surprise us at the end of our stay. The food was an outstanding buffet that changed daily from local flavors to selections from around the world to accommodate the many different culture who visit the island. We ate in the same area each time to overlook the water. As well, all of our drinks were included and we couldn't have been happier with the selection, from great island beverages to chilled wine to help us relax or have fun at night. There are some great games to select from while you enjoy some drinks and shisha. We had dinner with another couple one night at 135° East, and it was just an overall great experience. The chefs were very entertaining and the food was delicious. Though drinks are not included while having dinner in 135°, the staff was nice enough to comp our beverages. The chefs here are pure entertainment, from joking around to tossing food, it was a just a great night. We also had a private dinner on their private balcony one of our nights. This was by far the best meal we had while on our stay. We had to book this in advance since the private dinners are very popular and there are only so many spots each night on the beach and only 1 balcony/deck spot. This was a 4 course meal and each one is delicious. Thanks Simatey!

We grabbed some snorkeling gear (also included in our stay) which we knew we would need since all you want to do is get in those crystal clear waters to do some adventuring. The island is small and the temperature can get very hot so we spent much of our time in the water and surrounding reefs, which are absolutely beautiful and teaming with life. The best spots are on the rim of the reef surrounding the island. Now for some Scuba! I have never been scuba diving and knew I had to try. I had thoughts in the back of my head that the diving would be a cheap operation. I was very wrong. This is a very well trained group and keeps their equipment in very good condition. Jenny was the best and blast to dive with. She had me right in and very comfortable underwater. Jenny is very experienced and keeps an eye on you the whole time (I tend to get over confident and she kept me in check). We did a dive at reef about 20 minute boat ride from Maafushivaru. Absolutely a must trip if you have never been diving. There is so much to see, plus Jenny is much better at spotting sea life than I am so she will point out turtles and sharks which I seemed to keep missing. I had my GoPro with me so I got some very cool shots.

I also did the Whale shark excursion which was amazing. This can be a gamble since you are dealing with wild animals and there can be a chance of not seeing any, but we got to see 2. Amanda (the resorts marine biologist) was a blast as well. Maafushivaru really knows how to pick their staff as you can tell. The team on the boat have hawk eyes for spotting the sharks and put you right in the best location to swim with the whale sharks. They are truly an amazing site, very large and relaxed. With the first shark we got a good 5-10 minutes of swimming with it before it dove down. We also got some great facts about the wildlife and atolls on the boat ride there from Amanda. I am a science nerd so this was great experience for me.

Finally, we really want to thank the staff. It really helps to take the time and talk with them as they will really make you feel welcome. Everyone here goes out of their way to make sure you are having a great holiday and will also share their lives with you. The manager Ron really has a well run group. The servers and bartenders all were so friendly and we really enjoyed talking with them. They gave us some fresh cut coconuts and gave my wife some really nice gifts. The dive team we really want to thank you for letting us steal your hot sauce every day and hang out a few times. Everyone was really great.

I could probably write a book on our trip but I feel that it is a testament to how great a stay we had. I would highly suggest staying here and with all the renovations that they are working on I am sure it will be even more spectacular in the coming months.

Thank you,
the Burkes

It was our honeymoon trip and we were there for 4 days.
Overall, the hotel service was very good, the staff was waiting for us at the counter to assist us to take our seaplane and we were ensure that we can leave our luggage a with them so that we can travel lightly and enjoy the scenery.

The journey from the seaplane terminal to maafushivaru took us for 25 minutes only and the journey was amazing with great view, really a place must visit before ones die.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with lotsa smile and it makes us felt good. We were briefed on all resort facilities, on what are the Do and Don't. In fact were told that sometimes there might be jellyfish around, so do take precaution.

Room
Room was big, spacious and very privacy. The bed was great, view from room was amazing with the crystal clear water "Infinity Natural Pool" . We swam around our room and there were so many different type of fishes around this area.

Excursion
We joined the Snorkeling trip, Whale Shark Trip and sunset cruise.
Whale Shark : We were lucky to see the Whale Shark which near to extinction, unforgettable experience where we were so anxious to see the whale the moment the instructor told us. Without thinking twice, we jump into the ocean (Big Wave is like chopping all of us) and we saw IT.

Sunset Cruise : 1.5 hours journey to enjoy the sunset moment in this Maldives Paradise and we saw 6 Dolphins swimming around and this makes our USD 20 worth more than anything else.

Overall: we regretted that we should stay more days as there are many others activities we could join. Other excursion will be Night Snorkeling, Diving for beginner, Manta Point Trip, Turtle trip.
Food was great, a lot of varieties despite we had all the 3 meals in the same coffee house since we've paid for full board meal package.

Will come back to Maldives again.

Room Tip: Both the over water and beach resort was great. However, over water gives more privacy and it gives...
