We finished off our Honeymoon with a week at Long beach and it was amazing!
The staff were really friendly and very attentive.
Our room was lovely, very modern, spacious and clean.
The pool was amazing and although the hotel was full you didn't feel crowded. Lots of sun loungers to choose from by the pool and by the sea.
The food was also really good with lots to choose from, and although the service could have been quicker at times, you're on holiday so who cares, sit back and relax!!
I would definitely recommend this hotel, the very modern and new look as well as the service and amenities definitely gave it a 5 star feel. We just wished we could have stayed longer!

The hotel was fantastic and the staff were very attentive but the service could have been a little quicker but your on holiday so chill out. The rooms were fantastic (we had a superior) and it was cleaned to a very good standard twice a day. The food at the seafood restaurant was fantastic and I often pay much more in the UK for food that does not compare but the Italian was disappointing.

The entertainment in the evening (live band) was a good laugh but they were on 14 days on the spin and that was perhaps a bit much!

The water-sport facilities were fun and the staff again were keen and helpful.
The drinks were perhaps a bit pricey but i had expected that.
The excursions were good and the tour guides were very informative and friendly it also very cheap to get a taxi for the day £60 and they will chauffeur you.
The golf course was nice but the "free" round cost me £100 after i rented the clubs bought the very expensive balls and a glove.

All in all it was a fantastic holiday the only negative being that the hotel was full of young children and teenagers who were quite often left by their parents and would sprint through the restaurant but apart from that all was good and i would return.

P.S

Never travel with Air Mauritius - we traveled business class and could not fault them but those in economy endured tiny seats and many couples and families were separated.

Room Tip: go for the higher number rooms i.e. 600 and up as these are furthest way from the entertainment

We visited for 2 weeks during the school holidays in October so the hotel was very full and this sadly affected the level of service we received. We really enjoyed the holiday overall as the staff are lovely and the hotel is beautiful but it wasn't a 5 star experience. Some 4 star hotels in the Maldives are better for the same price.

The rooms and overall hotel facilities were superb but some of the seating in the public areas and the sun-lounger cushions were dirty. The most disappointing aspect was the service in all of the restaurants which was very disorganised, inattentive and slow. I was asked by a member of staff if everything was OK after the first 2 days and I told them that the service at breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea had been very disappointing. To their credit the F&B manager did personally apologise and things generally improved to about 4* level thereafter. We found the quality of the food excellent in the main restaurant and pleasant, but not as good as you'd expect, in the Italian and Chinese. The Italian was not available to us in the last week as the hotel was "too full" so they had to use the seating for the main restaurant. This is annoying when they've advertised that there are 4 "a la carte" restaurants but then they aren't all available. It would be good to have another bar to sit in on a night where the band wasn't so loud. We actually thought they were great - but you didn't have much option but to be in that one bar and it is rather small. The pool bar wasn't really suitable for evening use as the cushions were all rather dirty.

The hotel was very full of young families which wouldn't be ideal if you were looking for a romantic break. Our teenage sons loved the sports facilities and activities and had a fantastic time - that's why we chose this hotel and it definitely lived up to their expectations. Diving was from the Belle Mare Plage hotel just along the beach. The dive manager (Joel) was excellent, however the equipment was old and some of it actually broken and you dive from a rather small boat. The several dives that they did were disappointing compared to the Maldives and also compared to when we visited Mauritius several years ago.

So overall - very mixed feelings!

This was our first trip to Mauritius, the hotel its self was very modern and clean. The room was superb, we had a superior beachfront room. The staff were very friendly and helpful BUT they need some more training in the restaurant Le Marche. We had to wait twenty minutes for a coffee with our breakfast and the couple next to us got their drinks after they had finished their breakfast. Most mornings the food was cold especially the bacon. The food at night was equally either lukewarm or cold. We had soup one night which had never seen a cooker, we complained, it was taken away put into the oven for a few minutes then brought back to us. The dish was hot but the soup was not. We have been to many 5* hotels around the world and we cannot rate this one as 5*. We have never been charged for tea/coffee facilities in the room anywhere but here. The pictures of the beach both on the website, in brochures and in the hotel room TV shows beautiful blue sea and white beach, yes the colour is correct but you will need shoes on to walk on the beach as it is broken dead coral not sand and if you want to swim you will definately need shoes as the coral comes right up to the beach and is visable at low tide. There is also an easterly wind all the time and at night you will need jacket or jumper. We went half board as we didn't want lunch and don't drink much but I would recommend AL as the drinks both soft and alcoholic are very expensive.

Room Tip: Superior Beachfront rooms really are superb.

Let's be clear and fair:

Great food;
Nice beach;
Nice pools (2)
AI package pretty decent (make sure you are aware of the small print supplements but we thought clear enough and fine)
Nice rooms (we had beach front superior)
Good facilities

BUT...

This place markets itself as a refined, 5 star, luxury resort at the top end of the market, and certainly the price reflects that claim. This is not accurate. What massively lets it down, is the live music which is performed every night except Sunday.

The band is talented enough (although the male lead singer's voice is a bit whiny) and you might think that music personal taste so what am I going on about? Let me give you three examples of what I mean:

(a) Greased Lightning (yes, from the film Grease)
(b) the band started a conga which went through from the bar/lounge, through the hotel lobby area and back again.
(c) the microphone is often handed around the audience, which effectively turns it into a karaoke session.

This can be heard throughout all of the restaurants, with the exception of Tides, which is just out of earshot.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a snob and would happily get involved in the above at the right place, i.e. a cheesy club with a sticky floor. It felt and sounded (very loudly) completely out of place (Costa Del Sol?) and inappropriate for the ambience this hotel should be looking to create, to match the rest of the surroundings. Several other guests we spoke to thought the same as us.

Another indication of very poor decision making by the management, is what happened next to the main pool one afternoon. They decided to play loud, heavy base music all afternoon, which resonated through the whole resort to the point where I understand a neighbouring hotel complained! Again, right place, right time, not a problem. Next to a pool in "paradise", just weird. The main thing though, was one track which was played, which contained sampled dialogue from 'Pulp Fiction'. Pulp Fiction is one of my favourite films, but the dialogue was from the part where Samuel L Jackson did his bit "Say what one more time, I double dare you, MF". This was blasted many times throughout the song across the whole pool area and resort. I wasn't personally offended and don't have any kids yet, but bear in mind this was the family pool area with plenty of children knocking around - what on earth were they thinking?!

If you are looking for a romantic, luxurious, refined, top-end stay and a genuinely 5* experience, this is not the place to go.

This is a fantastic hotel, location, service etc. and on that basis alone I would give a rating of 5. However, we were recommended by people in the vacation industry to go here for our honeymoon in August. When we arrived it was 17C and cloudy, we asked what was with the weather, we were told that at this time of year its mid-Winter in Mauritius and that’s what it’s like. By 6PM it was night-time and pitch black. In August the island has a very strong winds from the east (southern hemisphere) and this Hotel is on the east coast. We were given a free upgrade to 1st floor beach front apartment, the winds were so strong that we couldn’t sleep at night and has to ask to change rooms.

As we went out for our 1st romantic meal we were greeted with cold , horizontal rain and pitch black darkness that was more like a dark winters night in England and we wonder why we had spent a lot of money and 12 hours in a plane when we could have had better weather in Cornwall. There was some days when we didn’t get much rain and the Sun did come out too but the wind never died down. It was always too windy to stay on the beech which was beautiful.

We were told by the locals that the weather is nice from November onwards…

Bottom line, we should have checked ourselves what the weather is like at that time of year and not relied upon the recommendation of our relations, so unfortunately the rating goes down to just 2…
