“Huge villa, relaxing location, excellent hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

My family of four stayed during July (winter non peak season) and the villa location was tranquil and relaxing. It was a huge villa with full kitchen facilities, three bedrooms and a private pool to ourselves - definitely value for money. The beach is only a 5 min walk away and excellent for watching sunrises. Plus, strongest and best WIFI of all hotels I've stayed in Mauriitus!

The host, Ravin and his family, was really friendly and happy to accommodate our requests. They arranged a full day out at sea for our family at reasonable rates (easy location to get to Blue Bay and the Marine Park for snorkeling). Would return again!

This villa is awesome! The hosts are very welcome and we had a week long stay, this is the best value for the money(around 440euros for 7 nights stay).

The villa has 3 bedrooms and too spacious for a family of 3 like us, there are 3 bathroom too. A big kitchen with some basic utensils available.

There is a exclusive swimming pool for every villa, so you could enjoy it all by yourselves.

The cleaning lady is really humble and quiet, we like her a lot.

We have a car to go around, the area around the hotel is relatively quiet but we like it, for those who want a hilarious life maybe it would be a little bit isolated.

The nearest bigger market is in Flacq, in case you need some supplies.

We chose the Villas after reading the previous reviews and we were not disappointed. The owners Ravin, Lata and their son Yash are the most helpful and friendly hosts we have ever met. The Villas met our expectations and the pool was wonderful. The cleaning ladies silent and efficient, you didn't know they were there sometimes. They always asked what we needed for breakfast the next day and it was delivered and put in the fridge later in the day. The pool man came most days and the gardener occasionally.
The restaurant 'Seasons' is excellent, we ate there every evening and some lunchtimes except when it was closed. Vicky and Raj, the waiters gave excellent service and nothing was too much trouble. We had lunch delivered to the villa a couple of times at no extra cost which is a definite plus.
I can only reiterate what the previous reviews have said. Lovely villas, great pool, brilliant restaurant and service and wonderful hosts. Thank you to the Garsee family for a wonderful holiday experience.

This set of villas is the other side of a road with a line of expensive, high-end beach resorts (roughly opposite Ambre). We stayed here in a group of 5 whilst we attended a week-long wedding at various locations on the island, including Long Beach. The villa is good value for money: safe, clean (the cleaner did a great job) and quiet. There is air conditioning in each of the 3 bedrooms and the pool was extremely welcome, even at night when we had overheated from too much dancing at Long Beach. Breakfast items (fruit, bread, milk, tea, juice) appeared everyday. Other pluses were comfy beds, hot showers and not many mosquitoes. We had one excellent meal at the Seasons restaurant within the villa complex and a second decent one. The owners are extremely friendly and the level of service was a lot better than anything we experienced at the resorts. The only downside was that the kitchen was not particularly well stocked but the owner said we should have said if we needed extra things as they can bring extra crockery etc from the restaurant. Overall we were very satisfied.

My family stayed were looking for affordable accommodation in Mauritius and one of my colleagues recommended Orchid Villas. After checking out the reviews on Tripadvisor we decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. The 3 bedroom villa we stayed in was large and well kept, with a cleaner coming daily. The villa pool was particularly good, which our son took full advantage. Breakfast, which is included, is fairly modest consisting of bread and jam and some occasional fruit. However, there is a reasonably good kitchen and a fridge, so you can stock up with food and make your own if you want to.

The Villa complex has its own restaurant on site ("Seasons"), which we found to be very good, especially the fish dishes, and reasonable value for money.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and whilst Orchid VIllas is not as luxurious as some of the prestige hotels in the area it is very, very good value for money in a Mauritian context, especially for families who want more space than your typical hotel room.

A few points to note:
-The East Coast of Mauritius is less developed than other areas such as the North West and South West. As such there are fewer places to eat, especially during the day, so you may need to plan ahead where you intend to eat. On the flip side the beaches are deserted during the week, which makes a pleasant change compared to most tourists hotspots I've been to.
- I strongly suggest you hire a car (with GPS), so you can explore the island, which is well worth the effort and enables you to see the "real" Mauritius and not just the tourist areas. Whilst you might read that driving is challenging in Mauritius, we found it to be relatively easy. Admittedly there are lots of one lane roads through the sugar cane fields, but the average driving speeds are low, so it was not that difficult.
- The Villa complex is in surrounded by cultivated tropical farm land. As such you inevitably get some insects coming into the villas and some smoke from when the farmers decide to burn off the land. However, that's beyond the control of the owners and shouldn't impact your stay too much, especially if you are out most of the day.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

Our family of 3, including our 6 year old son, stayed at Orchid Villas over a 6-day period in March 2014. We were looking for something fairly simple yet comfortable. With an active, easily bored boy in tow, we envisaged that much of our time would be spent exploring Mauritius (and not so much in our accommodation). A private pool was a priority for us since we saw ourselves spending lots of time in it while we were in the villa.

The pool was just the right size, and staff regularly (I believe everyday or every other day) came in to clean the pool. As the property was located along a quiet stretch of road, it was nice, private and quiet. At night, we would get our sun loungers out under the stars (of which there were many) and enjoy the constellations lighting the sky up. The breeze was beautiful and we stayed outdoors in the night time a lot.

In terms of living quarters, the rooms are quite basic. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 of which share an external bathroom. All contain double beds which were always well-cleaned without that mustiness that characterise some mid-range resort villas. Though the property was recently built in 2012, it does show signs of wear and tear. Some wall tiles have fallen out etc. But overall, we were happy that at least that it was always clean, water pressure in the showers was consistent, and hot water was always available.

If you're visiting a tropical country such as Mauritius for the first time, be aware that there are many ants and do not leave any food lying around. Breakfast is provided. Breakfast means some bread, a jar of jam, a tub of butter, carton of milk and juice. So don't expect anything fancy. Some days you might get some fruit too. But at least we did enjoy the vanilla tea bags which are a real novelty, and rather yummy!

Final, but important notes - we stayed in the villa directly behind the guard house, and next to a farm. On at least the first 3 mornings of our stay, burning took place at the farm and thick smoke wafted straight into the villa. It was quite bad and pungent and we had to rush to shut the windows immediately. I believe the burning took place around 9 to 10am. Secondly, we did find an unwelcome guest in the form of a scorpion lurking around our suitcase in our bedroom. Our son spotted the 3-inch long intruder and thankfully, we did not have any repeat encounters as we remained extra vigilant thereafter.

Oh yes, unless you speak French or enjoy the local programming, the TV shows available are not great - the channel stayed on BBC news the entire duration of our stay so much so that even our just-learning-to-read boy started enjoying it!

Room Tip: Ask for the villa situated away from the nearby farm property as they burn almost daily and the smok...

Orchid Villa's is a very attractive village style development in a secure setting in verdant gardens. Each villa is separate from it's neighbour and has it's own pool. These double story houses are spacious and well furnished. Air conditioners and free wi fi add to one's comfort. The kitchen does not have an oven in the space allocated for such but a small counter top oven is provided. The cookware and utensils need some attention but the crockery is of a good standard. The kitchen was also not as clean as it could have been. Old fat splatters coated the hob and the dustbin alongside. The en suite shower flooded the unit on the first night but the owner organised a maintenance man to effect repairs the following day. Fortunately there was a second shower in the unit for our use for the duration of our stay. The patio and the pool are the most inviting features of the villa with comfortable loungers and a patio set for your convenience. Privacy and a certain exclusivity make these villas highly commendable. The villas are an hours drive from the airport and if you arrive late I would recommend making use of a taxi or transfer to navigate the Coastal Road to your destination. The owner is able to organise car hire for you thereafter. The public beach is a short walk across the road and exemplifies the white sand reputation Mauritius is famous for. The east coast is quieter and far less developed than the rest of the island and we found this aspect charming. Courteous hosts attentive to their guests needs was a most appreciative addition to our stay.
