Reviewed 20 May 2012

This was our 7th visit to this resort. We had enjoyed all our previous visits and were slightly concerned as to whether the rebranding of the hotel might have been detrimental, but we were not disappointed.
The interior is lightened overall and the introduction of Cafe Lux where the reception used to be is a big improvement and also reception now being a little more private is a good feature.
The refurbished rooms are lovely - the decor and furnishings previously were rather dark and needed updating. The bed and linen was brilliant and we loved the updated bathroom with the oval bathtub and great shower. One good feature that obviously is unchanged is the good size of the rooms and bathrooms.
The restaurants and food remain very good. As previous, our favourite is Indochine for fine dining, although as mentioned by another guest there at the same time as us, children and babies should not really be allowed in this restaurant. Having said this we had a special menu cooked for my husband there on three evenings, as he cannot eat spicy food, arranged by Roopesh, which was great. They really went out of their way to make it special each time.
We also enjoyed lunches and some dinners at The Beach restaurant, which is now larger and with a great menu and extremely well managed by Vick. "The Kitchen" buffet restaurant where you also have breakfast was good - sorry we don't like the new name - and perhaps the only criticism here is that the breakfasts do become rather "samey" after 14 days.
The all inclusive was a great plus as we had no worries about accumulating extra costs.
This is a fabulous resort in a great location - we have always liked the Mauritian thatched roofing and the great beach and pool.
However, the best feature of all remains the staff. All the staff are extremely helpful, always smiling, always address you by name and go out of their way to make your stay exceptional. They genuinely enjoy their work and there is a very good team spirit.
We would specially like to mention, Sheila (Guest Relations Manager) and Ravin (Restaurants Manager.)

Room Tip: Go for a refurbished room if possible.

Cannot sat perfect as it would then be unable to give better resrts a higher rating, but the Belle Mar is a really great resort that would be a 4 star plus hotel. the staff are superb and no staff member should be nmamed as they all exceeded our expectations of service manners often missing in 5 star hotels 100/100.
My wife is a coeliac and was catered for admirably the head chef was there to meet us when we arrived and all of the staff waiters and waitresses knew her dietary requirements, brilliant sweets, fresh bread wonderful. 100/100
Our 14 night stay began during French school holidays, French children very well behaved no issues with them at all, but the resort can appear busy when its not. The dining rooms are all really nice, food is great and varied but if you want fine dining you dont expect crying children being fed by their parents bringing food into the Indochine and lagoustier fine dining restaurants from the Kitchen restaurant. mainly our Eastern European guests I would add. Lux you really need an adult only restauarant.
Rooms are ebing updated, we were there for 14 nights and hoped that we may have been given an updated Junior Suite in a bright sunny beachside view as requested. No such luck although the rooms are all of a good standard. We had a sea view from our balcony room 3110, but it was dark and you needed the lights on at all times the rather dismal colours dont help and the dark mahogony furniture is depressing after 14 days. The furniture and fittings are getting a bit worn to say the least, but the beds are comfy and well dressed and room service is very good. We asked if we could be moved to a brighter room after a few days but were told the hotel was full and as we were there for a long time a room could not be made available as it would overlap other bookings, nonsense really! We did ask to see the other rooms at the resort. We looked at a lagoon suite next to the beach front villas but this was not available so we were told even though we would have paid the extra. We also looked at a senior suite, wow. We asked the price and was astounded at being asked to pay 500 euros a night extra, as being non lottery winners we had to decline. We would have chosen a honeymoon suite as the additional cost is very little and good value for money, but were not affered one of these, maybe they are reserved for young couples who knows. would we stay there again, yes, but not in a room that has not been refurbished as they are all the same price but certainly of a different standard, maybe we did not complian loudly enough reading some of the other reports. Did it spoil our overall holiday yes probably it did. Room 70/100
Extras we were on all inclusive so you believe that simple things like smoothies (fruit juices) would be included, not by the pool. Until I checked my account aftrer a few days I noticed 2 smoothies 550 rupees (£13), I complained at the reception and was told even though we were all inclusive smoothies were not part of the deal. This happened twice so beware these are the most expensive drinks at the resort. All inclusive hidden charges 90/100.
Dress code can be ignored as many do. The code is supposedly trousers/slacks and no flip flops to dinner for men, many came to dinner in knee length shorts and flip flops, I am no snob but when you try to apply a standard make sure its followed or dont request it in your hotel guide. either impose the standard or watch your overall standards drop.
Overall super resort very well run and great for all ages, groups, individuals, families alike, wonderful setting, beach fabuluos, beautiful island and wonderful people.

Room Tip: only accept a refurbished room, the rooms are all the same size, but the old ones are dismal and dep...

Greetings from Lux* Belle Mare! A sincere thank you for your detailed comment for us on Trip Advisor. You have rated us a great resort for all ages and for families and couples alike; something which believe it honestly is. The spacious and comfortable rooms, the beautifully landscaped gardens and variety and quality of food and beverage offerings on offer combine to make a great holiday experience for all our guests. You have at the very beginning of your comment highlighted the biggest asset of ours - our team! Indeed, we believe that our team members have the ability to ensure each guest of ours is able to relax and unwind completely by their unobtrusive, gentle and genuine service style. This feature alone is one of the biggest reasons for the faith and trust imposed by many a guests in us. We have taken your comments on the rooms, the dress code and an adults only restaurant on board and we are working on these presently. Unfortunately, we were unable to offer you a renovated room through your stay due to high occupancies. I do hope you do visit us again and can assure you we will try our utmost to ensure a wonderful room for you during your next stay with us.

We look forward to welcoming you in the near future to showcase to you the changes brought about based on your suggestions and more importantly to offer you a yet another relaxing and rejuvenating experience with us;

This is a lovely hotel with an intimate, friendly feel to it. If you expecting the kind of uber chic or luxury of a smart city hotel you will be disappointed. Rather, there is a sense of simple and relaxed elegance about the lobby and public areas. The refurbished suites (requested in advance by email) are very contemporary whilst remaining eminently comfortable and practical. Our room was wonderful. Fabulous, enormous bed and simple yet stylish furnishings. The bathroom was modern with very high quality fittings - wonderful freestanding bath and walk-in shower. The room was serviced promptly each morning with a turndown service in the evening when you received fresh towels etc. Towels and toiletries were very luxurious.

The real making of this place though are the staff who are truly friendly and helpful. Service is generally very good, albeit sometimes a little slow and rather haphazard. Staff soon address you by name which is a nice touch. Nothing is too much trouble and you feel as though you have made friends with many of the staff by the end of your stay. There is a "tipping box" at reception you can contribute to at the end of your stay which is shared our amongst all the staff. This is a great way of showing your appreciation and ensuring that staff behind the scenes are also rewarded. It is also particularly good to see that managers do not hide away here. We were invited to cocktails with the managers on our first night and the guest relations team were always available to answer any queries.

The food was of a high standard and Indouchine was particularly good. We also very much enjoyed our lunches at The Beach - all freshly cooked. We were on the infinity all-inclusive which is not cheap, but overall proved pretty good value if you ate lunch and had wine/drinks each day. Everything was included except the special meals if you wanted to try them (but you didn't have to). The all-inclusive wine selection was very good - don't let the scru-cap labels put you off, they are delicious. Check out the main wine menu also as two or three of these are also free with the all-inclusive package and are very good indeed. The mini bar in the room was well stocked and this was also included.

There were some very nice touches like free phone calls home and free wi-fi (it was i-pad city on the beach!). Also really nice coffees free until 10:30 am and delicious ice-creams by the pool in the afternoons.

The beach is lovely, though not as unspoilt or beautiful as the Maldives. The pool area is also very nice and gardens attractive. It is great that there are plenty of shady spots on the beach and in the nearby gardens.

All in all, we had a great holiday and I would highly recommend the hotel. Personally, I wouldn't go there on honeymoon as I would prefer somewhere more private and maybe adults only. There are quite a lot of children about (and they are very well catered for) so it is not as romantic as it might be for couples. Also, although some of the bands were very good, the evening entertainment generally (especially the DJ nights) were a bit lacklustre and lacking in atmosphere. It was sometimes more like a kids disco. There are very few Brits here - which could be considered an advantage, but is something to be aware of if you like to socialise with other guests. Russian would be a distinct advantage in that respect!

Our thanks to the many staff who helped to make our stay so warm and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Greetings from Lux* Belle Mare! The entire team of ours joins me in thanking you for a wonderful and detailed note for us on this forum. It is indeed the team at the resort which adds a special touch to the beautifully painted canvas of our resort offerings. I personally thank you for listing all the special elements from the phone booth to the Scrucap wines; from the interiors in the rooms to the free wifi and from the must have coffees at the Cafe Lux* to the delectable Ice creams at the ICI parlour and for describing our team members as they really are - helpful and friendly!

We are glad that you had a wonderful stay with us and we hope that you will be visiting us again in the near future for a yet another "exceptional " experience with us at Lux* Belle Mare!

We didn't decide the trip until the very last minute. And it's also the last-minute-decision that we chose to stay on the eastern coast instead of the western one, which turned out to be the very right choice. Though the eastern coast may be a little bit far from the scenic spots on land, which are mainly in the south and near the west, the beach in the east is much more beautiful and quiet than what in the west. And the hotel LUX Belle Mare is absolute worth the price, actually, far beyond our expectation. Before making the reservation online, we did a lot of research and read many reviews online, esp. on the TripAdvisor, which is of great help and is also the reason why we finally chose this hotel. LUX ranked No.1 in the 14 hotels in belle mare. The hotel has a huge swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and facing the sea of the color of Tiffany-blue. And we did spend much relaxing time in this fabulous pool. The hotel has a well-equipped boat house, which offers various activities for free, such as pedal boat, kayak, water ski, windsurfing, etc, and glass boat and snorkeling, of course. It's wonderful. Beside these watersports, the hotel has all kinds of recreational and entertaining activities everyday, including exploring LUX's private island, the Coco Island, bike tours to the village nearby, tai-chi, yoga, stretching, aqua gym...They even have painting and cooking lessons. The schedule of each day's activity is posed in the lobby a day before. If you try to keep yourself busy, with all these activities, it won't be difficult at all. According to a staff we talked to, there is about 600 employees in the hotel. Though we only got the chance to meet a few of them, we've really touched and mused by their service as a team. As soon as we arrived in the hotel, we immediately felt the warm welcome in the air. The welcome drink and the fruits refreshed our tiredness of the journey. The resort is quite large, but we never got lost, because of the thorough orientation tour. The guest room is very cozy and always clean. Thanks to the house-keeping, we snorkeling-lovers always have the clean towels. The colleagues at the reception and concierge couldn't be more helpful. The tour operator helped us with a tour in the Blue Bay marine park, which was quite fun. LUX ME, the spa, had a special offer of a package of 30mins body scrub and 30mins massage for 2500 rbs (the normal price is 3600/per person), which is very soothing and relaxing. The restaurants and the food of LUX are really yummy. The kitchen, is the main restaurant, for breakfast, which has quite a lot of choices. Delicious food and the view of the pool made us enjoy getting up everyday, haha. The kitchen offers buffet for dinner, which needs no reservation and has different theme everyday, including the Arabian, the Asian fusion, etc. Besides, there are another three choices: The Beach, a Italian restaurant. We loved its Parma Ham, the beef, the pizza....yum. The hotel also has a seafood restaurant and a restaurant of asian style. Too many choices, too little time. What a pity. Since our reservation is on half board basis, almost all the courses and food are free, but excluding drink and beverage at dinner. If you wanna drink something, don't hesitate to order. We loved the wine rosè, the price (270rbs/glass 1300rms/bottle including VAT) is quite reasonable. And coffee bar is great, too. Nearly forgot, the hotel also has a telephone, which every guest can use for free to call anywhere of the world. Very thoughtful. It is our very first time to Mauritius. LUX belle mare made our dreamy holidays come true. We'll definitely come back, to this island of wonders, and to LUX, this paradise-like hotel.

Greetings from Lux* Belle Mare! A sincere thank you for your detailed and wonderfully worded review for us here on this forum. The title of your comment - "Unforgettable experience and absolutely fascinating stay at LUX" says it all! Like rightly mentioned by you, we believe that more and more travellers rely on the comments posted by fellow travellers on forums like the Trip advisor and hence such a positive and genuine feedback by you for us is definitely a morale booster for us as also a reinforcement of our belief that as Lux* we are truly on the right path. We believe in providing a unique experience for all our guests through our features, our offerings and through our geunine and passionate service style rather than just another holiday. A big thank you for detailing every aspect of the resort from the arrival till departure and many many things on offer in between. The spa and the trip to Ile des deux cocos are two of the hidden gems of ours and definitely worth a few treatments and a picnic!

My family has been fortunate to experience many top hotels in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Brazil & Africa. However, only the Lux Belle Mar in Mauritius has moved us to write a review on Trip Advisor.
Mauritius is a beautiful island with warm, cultured people and there’s no doubt the location of the hotel, the white sandy beach, beautifully landscaped grounds and generous facilities meet the expectations of its 5 star rating.
Similarly, the contemporary style of our suite was perfect for our taste. The room was perfectly laid out, clean and very well served by the efficient and discreet staff.
We opted for the Pure Discovery package for the ten days we were there. This package is really as comprehensive as anyone could ask for. Breakfast on the beach and the cooking lesson with the Chef were perhaps the most memorable. The spa facilities and treatments were as good as we’ve experienced anywhere…….and for us, the only true relaxation away from our active, four year old son.
Food-wise: Whether you dine at the restaurants or the main buffet area, we found the choice and quality of the food served to be faultless. The restaurant menus are not Michelin star standard, but neither are the prices. However, the welcome is warm and the food is certainly haute cuisine.
Great though all these things are they are secondary to the attention and extraordinary service we received.
Children aren’t just tolerated, they are welcomed and well catered for and there are lots of thoughtful touches, like screening the Six Nations rugby in a conference room, the availability of Wifi throughout the resort, complimentary snacks, ice cream or fruit smoothies on the beach or by the pool.
On our last evening, the General Manager took the trouble to seek our direct feedback. Unusually, he was particularly interested in any negative comments. There weren’t any as such. The one question we had about a charge on our bill was investigated and explained within 30 minutes. We told him he had assembled a first class team and that we had noted down the names of some of his really exceptional staff. They include Ravin, Law, Roopesh, Dave, Amar, Vikram, Vikash, Diviyani, Vijaye, Deepak, Vishnoo, Gopi, Chrystal and Priti. Virtually all of the others deserve recognition for being very good, too. In fact, I’d go as far as to say if I ran a hotel in Mauritius, I’d want these people in my team.
I’ll pick just two incidents that I believe illustrate the integrity and proactive nature of the staff at this hotel.
(i) On arrival, whilst fumbling for some local currency to tip our driver, I managed to drop a pair of brand new, expensive earphones that I had bought a few hours earlier. After failing to find them in our bags and the reception area, I decided to ask the porters/bell boys. The chap I asked confirmed he’d found something, then promptly disappeared into another building and returned with my earphones and the paperwork. It would have been so easy for him to have put them into his pocket and sell them for a nice little bonus……but his honesty set our Lux Belle Mar experience off on the right footing.
(ii) Whilst on the beach one afternoon a few days later, we ordered a few drinks which were promptly delivered. After the waitress left, we noticed my son’s plastic cup had a hole in it and his juice was leaking out. It was no big deal, but five minutes later, the waitress returned with an apology and a new cup of juice because she and the barman had noticed there was apple juice on the tray and had deduced that there must have been a hole in the cup. The next time we walked past the bar they both apologised for the ‘inconvenience’. Simple but amazing service.
Scratching around, I can think of two minor criticisms and two suggestion:
Criticisms: (i) the classes (yoga, star-gazing…..etc…) are not well advertised and (ii) the atmosphere around the bar in the late evening can be a little flat. For us, after an exhausting day in paradise with a four year old, it suited us to have a night cap and retire to bed. A few years ago this would have been a disappointment.
Suggestion: find a way to discreetly incorporate a few water slides around the pool.
We decided to delay our review of Lux Belle Mar to see if our perception of this hotel and its staff would fade with time. It hasn’t. I can still remember the faces of all the staff mentioned above, which is unusual, but it shows the impact they had.
I’m not really one for gushing praise, but this is a fabulous hotel with honest, friendly and proactively helpful staff.
We will return for sure, but if this hotel is in your budget, I’d suggest you book it. We booked through Destinology, who were helpful, thorough and obliging throughout (ask for Andy Morris). YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in late April / May. This was our 4th visit to
the hotel (most recent Sept 08, previously reviewed,) but our first visit
since the recent change from Beau Rivage to Lux Belle Mare.
The hotel had a rebrand and facelift last years. Communal areas are now painted off white
giving a lighter and more spacious feel.
Our room was one of the newly refurbished ones and it was stunning! An
enormous bed (6'6" & not 2 singles wedged together!) and a sitting area leading to a balcony, with views across the gardens to the beach.
Fabulous bathroom with an ellipse shaped (? Corian) bath, double wash basins, large shower and separate loo. A selection of great essential oils toiletry products are provided.
We also received various little extra treats during our stay, as we had previousy
visited.
The rooms were kept extremely clean and serviced twice a day. 500 ml bottles
of water provided at each service. Now has free wi-fi in the rooms and
throughout the hotel. In fact the beach was iPad central!! There were also a
couple of iMacs available for general use by guests.
Prices are now in rupees (approx 48 to the pound at the airport) and no
longer in €'s.
The wine list was a lot more reasonable than previous visits, the most
inexpensive bottle of wine costing 1150R. 2 small beers 400R and 2 large
beers. 600R (On our last visit the wines started at £30 a bottle)
One of the biggest changes is the meal system. The main dining area (The
Kitchen) now has a nightly buffet with the theme changing on a daily basis.
The food was of a high standard but it can feel a little repetitive - in
any hotel - on a nightly basis. There is now no longer a requirement to
reserve a table, and the restaurant is also non smoking, although some
diners on the terrace smoked or people snook out there for a ciggie.
It' s now possible to eat in any of the other 3 restaurants without
incurring additional supplements. Although prices are displayed on the menus,
these only apply to those having B&B or room only. However, if you have the
special gastronomic menu or attend one of the special meals (e.g Asian
tapas, curry night, Japanese evening) extra costs apply (from approx 950 R
to 1400R). This is a great way of preventing boredom with the nightly
buffets, or if that evening's theme isn't to your taste. Reservations are
required at all the other restaurants.
Aside from the regular water sports and exercise activities, many of which
are free, there are additional events, such as "cinema under the stars" 2/3
times weekly and the secret bar. This consists of a wardrobe hidden within
the grounds and if you locate it, (not difficult!) it has simple cocktail
il recipes and drinks are at cost price eg Cuba Libra 100R. There are also
lots of shaded areas for seating in the gardens, and some areas with large
beanbags for relaxing!
Mr Picky attended an astronomy evening which lasted over 2 hours and was
extremely interesting and fun. The guy that hosted it was very good.
Use of the gym is free, although if you want a programme created there is a
charge for this.
All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. In the dining room
Ramess and Ravin were very attentive and our old friend Dave was always
very helpful and thoughtful.
Ashish the resort manager was very approachable and keen for feedback after
the recent changes. Very special thanks have to go to Sheila, customer
relations manager. She responded instantly to a minor issue in the room, and
also arranged a special meal for us in Indouchine after I lamented the lack
of a specific dish on the menu there, after the recent changes. The chef
recreated the dish and provided a very special main course too. Ramess also
arranged a special desert for us on another evening there. Indouchine is now specialising in Asian food, and we missed the previous format of it, which was very high end.
By the end of our stay we didn't even have to ask for our 2 small beers on
our daily post beach trip to the bar, they were just brought to us!
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and all wanted to ensure you had
a very enjoyable stay, and we're very accommodating. This contributed
enormously to our enjoyment of the holiday.
The beach is lovely with towels, sun loungers and static umbrellas provided.
There are quite a few beach sellers, but this wasn't a problem, as they were
all polite and friendly and wouldn't bother you unnecessarily if you
politely but firmly said you weren't interested. Bartering was good fun
though and we looked on it as directly supporting the local economy.
We were on a half board basis, and would have a big breakfast (numerous
choices available) and this would see us through until the evening.
As this was our 5th visit to Mauritius we didn't do any of the organised
trips as we have done the majority of them previously. We did however go on
a speedboat trip which a guy on the beach offered, and this was great fun.
As many others have commented here, still lots of children present (the
first week of our stay was French school holidays.)
As there is access all areas in the restaurants for children, your romantic dinner a deux may not
be quite as you expected! There is a specific meal time for children, but
very few parents seemed to avail themselves of this facility (or the
babysitting services!) We do feel that having just one restaurant child free
would be appropriate.
The recent changes have created a relaxed and informal, but still luxurious
ambiance.
Due to the thoughtfulness and attention of so many of the staff, this was
our best trip to the hotel yet and we will definitely be returning. We had
the chance to view one of the villas, and may well consider this option in
the future, if only for some of the holiday.

Room Tip: Standards pretty high, but see if you can get a refurbished room!

Had a great stay at lux belle mare. The staff, location, the property etc is amazing. A special thanks to Jessica who took good care of us during our trip there. Just a recommendation that the speciality resteraunt needs to improve their food, the best was the Kitchen & the Beach. The gellato at the swimming pool area is a great touch to the overall experience.
