This was a very relaxing hotel, rooms clean, service good. Food in the Buffet was basic but OK. The Blue Penny Restaurant was not good though as the meat and other products used were not up to standard...plus when we complained they just ignored the problem. It wasnt until we asked to see the manager they too the complaint seriously!

Beware of late check out charges, around £70 for this...they tried to charge this even though we only needed the room for a few hours and the hotel was very, very quiet.
They also tried to charge us for completing online checkin with Air Mauritius too...use the courtesy lounge computers to do this yourself and save £60!

It's hard to believe that the people who recently rated this hotel as "poor" are talking about the BMP. Our first time in Mauritius so only have several years of all-inclusive to the Caribbean to compare it with. Suffice to say we will never go back to the Caribbean after experiencing this beautiful hotel, the great service and staff, and the quality and choice of food & drink. We didn't find the drinks any more expensive than say, any other European destination. Our local cocktail bars in Dunfermline charge the same for a cocktail and the drinks & bar snacks are typical hotel prices. Our room was spotless & tastefully furnished and the bathroom fittings all looked like Grohr. The grounds and all the pools were immaculate and the 900 staff to 500 guests gives an idea of what BMP likes to call service. We played golf on several occasions at the 2 hotel courses. If you don't want to hire the buggy at Legends you don't have to and there are caddies standing in line to carry your clubs round 18 holes for £10 if it's too hot for you. Cold handtowels greet you after any exertion or outdoor meal. We ate in Blue Penny, Deer Hunter & had the lobster dinner at La Spiaggia. No more expensive than some of our local restaurants charge for decent food. The 1 hour drive to the airport is a bind but it's a big island. There are other good hotels nearer the airport if that's an issue for you. The worst thing about this holiday? The 20
hours traveling each way.

We booked our holiday through Susie Freeman travel and it was Susie that recommended Bellemare Plage to us. We are glad she did. It was just the right blend of informal luxury that we were looking for. We were in a junior suite with wonderful ocean views and a huge balcony furnished with very comfortable day beds.
The main restaurant was varied and the food - buffet style -very good, though we ate in other restaurants too which although a bit more pricey was well worth it. The lobster evening at Indigo beach was especially memorable. The staff were wonderful - always attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble.
Thank you Susie for making our holiday one of the best yet - you arranged everything far and above our expectations - even down to horse riding on the beach early in the morning which was a real bonus. We will definitely book through Susie Freeman again - maybe South African next time.

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at this hotel. Tedious hour to and from airport but lovely hotel, quiet with exceptional service, friendly and courteous staff who all speak French first then English. We stayed half board and found the breakfast to have plenty of choice, like most people we took some fruit from the breakfast to eat during the day and enjoyed a couple of light lunches on the beach. We preferred the main dining for the evenings, wine starts at £20 per bottle, a plate of chips £4 and drinks are quite expensive, they dont put water in the rooms either, you have to pay for it. Tips: If you like a drink, get the hotel taxi to take you to a local supermarket and stock up on nibbles and alcohol in your room, although mini bar is tiny. Also on your first day ask for tea and coffee making in your room as they dont put it in as standard. No iron in room either so make sure you take one, laundry quite expensive at around £5 per item. Entertainment so-so. Lastly my only critisism of the hotel was the pools, they arent inviting and the main one just looks like decoration, no one goes in it. Not an ideal place for kids, great for golfers as 2 golf courses attached and my husband said they were good ones. January quite a lot of rain, mostly middle aged French white clientele. All in all an enjoyable holiday.

Firstly this hotel is not suitable for young children. The design of the hotel does not allow parents to relax for a minute, there are water features completely open for children to fall in. This hotel is also not suitable for anyone that enjoys a party or even a good evening, the bar closes at 11 pm, very little entertainment and everyone goes to sleep. I found the staff very unfriendly and unhelpful. My last night I had a leak in my bathroom ceiling and at 2 am it was still not fixed! The prices for drinks are ridiculous, the time you wait to get a drink is even worse! The rooms were nothing spectacular considering the price we paid. They were constantly out of beach towels to give out. The entertainment/ pr manager did nothing but sit on his phone, smoke cigarette and converse occasionally with the French speaking ONLY! The food got very monotonous and on numerous occasions waited an hour for our food then it arrived with a hair or WORMS! Would not suggest this hotel to anyone. This part of the island is also very windy and a lot colder. Club med is cheaper and a lot better! The Service at the lynx course was spectacular and on many occasions had lunch there rather than the hotel, however, golf is not free as advertised! It is compulsory to get a golf cart, which makes your round quite pricey. The free wireless is a joke, it's so slow you can hardly connect and stay connected.

This beautiful hotel is set of a lovely stretch of beach with comfortable sun loungers with shade huts which you will need if travelling this time of year as the sun is extremely hot - although there was always a lovely breeze along this coastline. We stayed in a prestige room which was very comfortable and clean and overlooked one of the swimming pools and out to sea. The hotel is very nicely spread out so you never feel crowded - the sun loungers on the beach are spread out in sections and there are several small pools dotted around the resort. The bar in the evening is very relaxing with entertainment each evening usually in the form of a duo singer and guitarist early evening and maybe a group later. Not the place to come if you are looking for lively nightlife. The drinks are rather expensive - but comparable to London City prices. The buffet restaurant where you take your Half Board meals is excellent - with a great choice of food for both breakfast and evening meal - you are spoiled for choice. Our only real complaint is the extortionate prices to eat in the other restaurants on the resort. We were kindly given a complimentary meal in their signature restaurant the Blue Penny - for our anniversary, our friends who travelled with us joined us and even with a credit of around 900 mauritian rupees the bill for the two of them + 1 bottle of rose wine and 4 beers came to around £180.00 - The portions of food were very small and the men particularly came out feeling hungry. Having said that please do not be put off coming here as the food in the half board option - which also includes dining at the Deer Hunter restaurant overlooking the golf course (a limited half board choice menu) is more than adequate.
An absolute must do is the Vicky boat trip - you wil see the boats moored off the hotel beach - and Vicky will introduce himself to you at your sun lounger on the beach - the trip includes a visit to the Ile Cerf island, the waterfall, snorkelling, swimming and a lovely fresh fish, lobster and chicken barbecue and as much wine, beer, rum and soft drinks as you want, This was an absolute highlight of our holiday. We also played golf on the two excellent golf courses - the Legend golf course has hosted the Mauritian European Seniors Open tournament for the last two years - and this course in particular was in excellent condition. Great value for money for golfers. Again buggies are a bit expensive but this time of year you may find it a bit too hot to walk.
We also hired a car for two days or you can get a taxi tour of the island. It is well worth getting out to explore this beautiful island it is very mountainous and lush and green with some very colourful flame trees and flowers everywhere.
We will always remember our wonderful stay at the Belle Mare Plage Resort - the staff are very helpful and courteous but not overbearing - the mauritian people in general are very welcoming and friendly - Please Go!!!!

We choose this hotel after a lot of searching to get married in. The wedding coodinator and team were absolutely wonderful, you could not fault them. Special mention to the photographer they appointed, he was excellent. We had a minor problem with the time of the wedding and as a gift they gave us a night in private villa with butler service. The hotel itself is stunning, the entrance and reception look out over the Ocean and there is always a beautiful aroma. I would gladly go back again a and again.
