Just returned from a one-week stay at this hotel as a part of our honeymoon. I must say that we are very satisfied from the overall experience we had at the Hilton. The rooms are more of a 4* hotel, but everything else is definitely 5*. The gardens of the hotel are truly beautiful and well-kept, the service is amazing and the food is great. Drinks can be expensive but take advantage of the happy hour every evening from 18:30 to 19:30. The boathouse offers free watersports and boat-trips for dolphin-watching, snorkeling and glass-bottom. The beach is not suitable for swimming but is great for snorkeling. The pool is good for swimming. The highlight of the resort is definitely the spa as we had a couple of treatments and were truly amazed of the proffessionalism and quality of the massages. Overall we had a great stay and we highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and i spent 10 days of our honeymoon here and found the hotel staff very friendly and attentive. The watersports were good, and if you enjoy snorkling as i do then the natural reef and lagoon are a pleasure. The room was a good size and had a lovely beach view. We walked in to the local village a couple of times as we realized that being there half board then the lunch, drinks and mini-bar prices were a rip off, but a quick trip to the local spar sorted that out. The breakfast and evening meal buffets were good, the only complaint being the deserts were pretty repetitive and bland. The broadband is also very pricey, and slow.

We had taken the risk by booking an expensive hotel (at $720 a night) directly with the hotel in a country where we were visiting for the first time. Hilton was our second hotel, primarily to provide a break from the monotony of one hotel for 9 consecutive nights. So we booked in Hilton for our last 3 nights. (first 6 in were in Le Meridian).

At check in we were guided quickly and efficiently to our room after the customary welcome drink and credit card swipe. In store for us was a fabulous gnd flr suite (we were upgraded to a suite), with 2 bath rooms, separate lounge, balcony with loungers.

Both the rooms - living room and bedroom were equipped with large sized LCD. In the living room we had a surround sound system. Luckily we made good use on one day which was a rainy day and so we had to be confined to our room. We saw the movie Top Gun (there was an in house DVD library) with its full sound effect relaxing with beer in the lounge. The movie was enjoyed by my 11 year old son and thanks to the sound system and large LCD TV, he did not miss the beach so much.

Hilton becomes more beautiful at the night, with cute waterfalls and small artificial ponds lighted up at various angles so as to show fishes. My younger kid (age 2) was enthralled feeding the fishes with bread crumbs, with fishes coming out of water tunnels.

We did not try the Thai restaurant due to our short stay, but the main restaurant was reasonably good with a variety of meal choices. The breakfast served in the morning was also top class. Although we are not a huge fan of bacon and sausages at breakfast, we had ample variety of fruits, breads, cakes and eggs to keep us happy.

However the prices at the hotel were also very high. Room service for lunch with just basic meal ordered was going through the roof. One main meal dish from would be costing mauritian Rs 500 to 600 which in Indian Rs. is around 800 to 900 and that for a dish is higher than even deluxe five star rates of India.

A private butler was attached to us, although we hardly used the services.

The snorkeling experience was also wonderful. A small incidence shows the hotel commitment. My son got a wrong size of flippers into the boat and on reaching the reef, he tried out the flipper which were too small to fit in. Immediately a speed boat was dashed back to the bank to fetch new flippers while others started snorkeling.

Helpful staff and very efficient all round service.

Upon reaching the hotel at 7pm, we had a welcome drink while the reception filled up the check-in details. There were few errors on the check in form (eventhough they took copies of my passport and airline tickets) such as date of birth and departure time, which I corrected. We were shown to the ground (1st level) floor room. I informed the hotel staff that it was clearly written on my hotel voucher that my room is on the 3rd level (They only have 3 levels of room, 1, 2 or 3). The hotel staff feigned ignorance but then called to say I can move to the 3rd floor at 10pm. I said no thanks, maybe next day after breakfast.

During dinner, I was not happy to see cats loitering about our feet as we dined. On the way back from the restaurant to our room, we saw a big rat. Gosh! That night I ended up with diahorhea! This is a 5-star hotel? The next day at breakfast, we had other animals for company, birds! They will fly over your head, land on your table and chairs… yup, a bit more chummy then I would like. It’s definitely not hygienic, this place. I mean, the food tasted alright, but then with all the animals? The irony is, Hilton has a no pets allowed policy.

On the second day after breakfast, we went through the hassle of changing to a 3rd level room. But due to the reception wrong information, we were made to walk between our old room, new room and the reception umpteen times (I think we spent an hour or so going through the process of moving room) due to arrangement on moving our luggage. And by now, my spouse's stomach is not feeling well. We ate our health supplements meant to sooth upset stomach, and thankfully it worked for both of us.

On the third day, we went out on a glass bottom boat, but the corals and fish is not that fantastic at all. We then proceeded to go for offshore snorkeling. We were told there was life jacket on the boat, but imagine our horror when we were out in the ocean and there was only one life jacket available (it was leftover from a previous trip)! I took that jacket but didn’t have a good time as the water was a bit too rough for me (the weather was cloudy the whole morning) and as I said, there were not many fish nor corals to see anyway. We tried to swim back at the hotel, but you only have about 15 feet or so to swim since they barricaded the area for boats. The water is too shallow and the beach is littered with dead corals.

That night, we got the letter from the reception informing us that they note we are leaving early morning the next day. I was like, “Hey, my flight is 9.30pm, what do you mean early morning?. The reception then admitted it’s a mistake on their part. I tried to give them my Northwest frequent flyer number for their record but they were unable to key it into their system (system constraint – they said).

On our last day there, we were more than happy to check out of the hotel to catch our flight back home. We also gave feedback to the hotel customer service on certain of our dissatisfaction (it’ll take a while to list every detail down), but I can see from his stunned look that he was very surprised we had this experience. I don't know whether anything will improved, hopefully yes.

We have read a number of reviews and this resort really seems to split the opinions but I must say that anyone saying that this is a “dump” is bearing a grudge or has unrealistic expectations. I would agree that by US standards this is not a 4+* hotel, but this hotel isn’t in Manhattan. Forget the ratings - this is a very good resort hotel if you want personal service and a relaxing beach/pool holiday in the sun. We went here in April 2008 for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff make you feel very welcome - in fact our lasting impression of the Mauritians was their friendliness.

One thing you really must do is make sure you are on the Elite (all-inclusive) package as otherwise this could be a very expensive holiday. The all-inclusive package provides ample variety for 7-10 days, including selected watersports and tennis.

Contrary to some reports on here, our room was well maintained and tidied daily and the food was good – get on the elite package and you can eat in the Thai restaurant or the more exclusive Melanzane as well as often as you like.

We stayed at the Hilton where we had our honeymoon. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The maid would come twice aday in the evening for turn down service. The room - deluxe was clean and well equipped - spaceous!

The food was great we stayed for 12 nights and did not have a repeat theme - im a fussy eater, there was always plenty of vegetarian dishes. Ginger Thai - was nice food, located aound koi carp ponds. The bar was very expensive....fortunatley we took duty free and walked to the local spar for mixers!

The spa centre was pricey compared to home - but it was amazing. Deep sea fishing was pretty good, we went with Ticou Ticou...he supplied some good rum too...

Recommend taking some shoes to wear in the sea, due to the coral and stone fish!! - if not the pool was very nice. Oh and not the hotels fault - but we found alot of the French guests did not understand the concept of "Queues"

We had a holiday her booked with Mark Warner in Feb with our 18 month old daughter. It was a fantastic holiday. The Mark Warner childcare was excelent and we were very happy that our daughter was so well looked after. The evening drop in creche worked out well but as we were the only MW guests for some of the trip, the nannies came to our room to babysit.

The food at the hotel was amazing. The optional thai restaurant was special but we so enjoyed the buffet in the main dining area. The choice for breakfast and dinner from the buffet was vast and all the food a high quaility.

The pool is very relaxing and great for children but is not for doing laps in as it is a stream, waterfall and lagoon design.

Would definately reccomend and would love to return
