What can we say? We just returned from 7 days on the island Mauritius and it was an an amazing experience from start to finish. We flew Emirates from Prague – excellent services, stayed at Sugar Beach, 10 minute stroll to the centre of Flic en Flac. Room in traditional colonial villa well-equipped and well-serviced, most of our stay was enjoying hotel facilities and excellent services, but sometimes we were also out of resort – in the Port Louis and in the Black River National Park. Dip into our Colours (Port Louis and botanical garden Pamplemousses) and The South and its Charms ( Trou aux Cerf, Curepipe, Grand Bassin, Chamarel, Tea Factory Bois Cheri) – two daily trips, which you don´t miss. They have been designed to awaken our all senses. And food? Mon Plaisir Restaurant with a variety of themed dinners, Tides Restaurant with seafood platters and Paul & Virginia Restaurant at sister hotel La Pirogue with a selection of popular island cusine were extraordinary experience for us. Then just dip into Mauritian´s rythm and have a great time, That´s important not only for the evening time! Thanks for the time to spent in a true paradise.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Manor House are quieter.

My wife and I made a return visit to the sugar beach with some friends after a previous visit 4 years ago . Well it is one thing to achieve certain standards but to maintain them we believe is a even harder task . We were not disappointed the staff were pleasant polite and most helpful from the management through to the cleaners . If you want to relax on a white sand beach , be pampered and indulge in fantastic food and fine wines then you should not look any further than the sugar beach resort . We would like to say a special thank you to Sorab and Rajesh based at the infinity pool area , they were great nothing was too much trouble , and also to Christelle and Kezzie who waited on us in the Tides restaurant on most days at Lunch time (also try the ala carte dinner at Tides in the evening it is out of this world ! Our room was kept spotless by the cleaner as was the whole resort .It was also our friends wedding anniversary Nigel and Kim well we can not believe what the staff done for them in recognition of their anniversary with no charges or prompting it was wonderful . To sum up simply it was Amazing A big thank you to all the staff and management of the Sugar Beach Resort . Any one who cares to read this should seriously consider a tropical beach holiday to here as we have stayed in many 5 star resorts around the world and this takes some beating location and standard wise

Room Tip: all the rooms are great with super views though ask for one in the infinity pool area

We visited for nine nights for our honeymoon mid November and had a wonderful stay at the Sugar Beach hotel. From the moment we arrived we were looked after by all of the hard-working team at Sugar Beach. We were greeted with a cool towel and refreshing citronella drink on arrival which was gratefully received after 13+ hours travelling! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, any question or problem you have is dealt with swiftly and easily making for a relaxing stress free holiday. We were introduced to the manager on arrival which was nice and also bumped into him numerous times during our stay so assume he is fairly hands on and this is test amount to the happy hardworking staff who we really cannot compliment enough. We were lucky enough to be given a room with a breathtaking sea view by the quiet pool which we highly recommend (room 719). We were entirely happy with our stay in this spacious and immaculately clean room.
We loved and suggest you eat at Tides, Citronellas(our fave!), and Paul & Virginie(at Pirogue hotel next door which guests can use the amenities of). Incidentally Pirogue seemed just as nice as Sugar Beach if you are staying there or currently choosing where to stay...we ate at their buffet also which we enjoyed and the staff and the entertainment seemed equally as great.
The Sugar beach buffet breakfast is superb, amazing fresh fruit, piping hot freshly cooked breakfast and delicious waffles and pancakes!
Tides was great for entertainment, we visited most nights danced and enjoyed the fabulous cocktails, special thanks goes out to Steneo who made sure we enjoyed our last night!
Top tips: 1)Everyone on Trip advisor suggests buying the plastic shoes due to the sharp coral however we purchased them and the sand goes inside and feels like sandpaper so uncomfortable we threw them! We swam and stepped carefully and were fine. Flip flops are fine for walks on beaches as well. If you have material surf style shoes these are probably much better.
2) On three occasions we called to make dinner reservations at various restaurants. Every time we were told they were fully booked which we found strange! Never one to give up easily we visited the restaurants directly and booked tables with no problem at all so highly recommend you do this.
The beaches, pools, restaurants, toilets and grounds are all immaculately well cared for and we would love to return and highly recommend Sugar Beach. The hotel and grounds are so spacious you are never on top of one another even when the hotel is almost full which is also great.
We were also invited for cocktails on the lawn with other guests one evening which was a lovely idea.
We booked to play golf at Le Touressrok hotel on the east of the island as an extra treat and decided to do the offer we received on arrival of a two night stay there. This hotel is 5* so more expensive than Sugar Beach for drinks especially but the experience and beaches here are even better! Totally recommend staying here as part of your stay at Sugar beach. Read also my review for La Touressrok.
We also hired a car to get to and from the airport. We visited all the tourist attractions and found it really easy to get around the island.
Thank you Sugar Beach team for making our honeymoon perfect!
X

My husband and I arrived at Sugar beach November 3rd this year for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived we had a fabulous time, and have never felt so relaxed! Our room was spotless and our view magnificent. The beautiful girl who cleaned our room would leave little flowers she picked each day which was such a touching gesture.
All the staff were very attentive, we never had a problem with anyone. The food was lovely, and an excellent variety. I especially loved breakfast with the variety of fresh fruits, and juices. You could have cereal, omelette, full English breakfast, whatever, it was there. We were always given a lovely poolside table and very well looked after by Antish and Soobis.
The grounds were immaculate, and the people who worked there just got on and did their job but always with a smile and a hello.
We loved the Tides bar, and once again the service fantastic, with good music and entertainment. The meals in the Tides restaurant were outstanding. We were invited to a honeymoon meal there, on the beach, the table was all beautifully laid out and the napkins made into swans. It was very romantic, and we had a lovely meal. It was a really special night, and we were made feel very welcome.
Laying around by the pool, or beach was so relaxing. Yes there are the locals trying to sell their goods along the beach (all with special permits), some people were obviously frustrated by this, but if you said no thanks that was it and they left you alone. We personally were not bothered and had many an interesting conversation with some of these lovely people who are simple trying to make a living.
We did witness a few 'off' people who were guests as ourselves, and could see that they thought the staff should be waiting on them hand and foot. Rude with no thanks. So when guests who stay and treat these lovely people with the respect they so deserve then obviously they will be looked after in return.
The drink service around the pool for us was outstanding, whether it be coffee or alcohol. We especially loved Frezley, a lovely guy, great smile and very funny. He was very attentive, and when it came to leaving both my husband and I felt quite sad having to say goodbye to him.
My husband played football with the pool guys which they arrange each day and ask people if they want to join in. There was a chef cooking pancakes each day by the pool area for the guests, and one day a chef cooked a beautiful curry step by step, even giving us all who watched the recipe and for the cocktail 'Mauritian smile' which became a favourite of ours!
For us it was an amazing experience, relaxing, beautiful beach with crystal clear water, pool area and immaculate hotel. We woke up each day to this incredible view and felt like we had to pinch ourselves to believe it was real and enjoy every second because the time went too fast!
Everyone has their own opinion, but for us it was the most amazing experience, and we both have to say that Sugar beach and all it's staff made our stay a truly amazing one. A honeymoon we will never forget, and yes, without any hesitation we are going back, and cannot wait!

Room Tip: We were on the first floor, near the pool area because we wanted a balcony and ocean views. You could hear the Tides Bar music but we were not bothered by this.
