“Sugar Beach Resort”

I loved my time at this resort. Full of character, amazing service and the staff were welcoming and always with a smile and ready to assist. The facilities were fabulous - just perfect for a week or so in a quiet, personal enviroment for adults. I cannot vouch for the juniors because there was not too much evidence of their presence at this time of year (November). I would give this resort 4.5 out of 5 stars because I thought the hotel shop could have been more lavish and stocked with items the guests would have liked to have taken home. The night market only had about half a dozen stalls and lacked any appeal. I would have liked to have seen more stalls with more variety of goods. The rooms were very adequate, although I just cannot fathom why hotels think guests don't need much lighting. We were all inclusive and this worked brilliantly - not so much for the food but drinks (non alcoholic and the boozy sort, with lots of lovely rum cocktails). Wifi, worked in the public areas but for a small cost you could also get wifi in the room. The bathrooms were fine but lacked the luxurious appeal and guess this would have upped my score. The gardens were to perfection and showed off the plantation setting but almost on the beach. The spa and gym were certainly up to scratch and we made use of both. I would certainly like to re-visit but one has to take into account the long 12.5 hour flight.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room overlooking the smaller pool, and made use of the balcony. I personally do...

My husband and I stayed at Sugar Beach and our stay was memorable. From the minute we arrived we were treated with exceptional service from the manager and all the hotel staff. The infinity pool is awesome and the sandy beaches are spectacular. We had a couples beach dinner which was a 5 course meal selected by the chef. I would recommend Sugar beach to couples and families looking for a superb relaxing holiday. We shall definitely be back!

First of all I want to thank the Sugar Beach administrative staff for fulfilling all our requests as discussed prior to our visit. A superior room by the quiet pool with a King size bed and great views of the sunsets was what was requested and this was exactly what was delivered. The sunsets are fabulous and have to be seen to be believed and it was very relaxing to sit and watch the sun go down for the two weeks of our stay.

The buffets in Mon Plasir were always interesting and varied using great fresh ingredients and we could always find food that we really liked, the live stations were always worth a visit and a review around the restaurant before choosing your dishes is to be recommended. To be honest the buffets were so good that we didn't feel the need to eat elsewhere very often and this is from people who are not normally fans of buffet food. The breakfasts were also very varied with many choices and a lot of hot options as well as fruit and pastries etc. One disappointing feature was that there was not freshly squeezed orange juice available, but there were so many other elements of fresh fruit available that compensated. However we did try both Tides and Citronellas and experienced service and quality at different ends of the spectrum. Citronellas was so much better in atmosphere, location, service and both experiences at Tides were very disappointing in a number of ways but specifically both staff attitude and the flavours and manner of cooking of the meals we chose. As we were on half board there seemed very little value in paying additionally to eat at Tides when the other options were so good. Citronellas was especially well run and the staff there should be commended for both the food and the service which was well orchestrated by those in charge on the 3 nights we ate there.

The hotel is large and as such the service in the Mon Plasir Buffet restaurant can get very busy for the staff there but even in the busiest periods we always enjoyed good service although there was occasionally a wait to be seated purely because of the volume of people trying to eat at the same time.

The quiet pool was a great place to relax and both the pool guy and the drinks staff were attentive without being intrusive although to be fair we did not tax their services that much but it was good to know they were there if needed.

The rooms although not the largest we have stayed in are well organised and have sufficient storage even for two weeks of luggage, in fact we even had drawers not used. The bed was comfortable and the room was always kept clean and tidy. The superior room advantage of the ground floor position and more importantly the separate shower cubicle was definitely, in our opinion, worth the extra charge.

The position of Sugar Beach is great for beach walks and you can walk barefoot for a couple of miles in each direction along the sand, a great way to get a tan !

The hotel also provides a number of free activities both at the beach and in the form of a gym and tennis courts, none of which we could be bothered to take advantage as we just wanted to relax and chill.

In summary Sugar Beach may not be the most luxurious or glamorous hotel we have ever stayed at but it matched our expectations and proved a restful and relaxing break in a location with great weather at a price that I consider was good value for money. A few minor things could be improved upon such as 4 star mentality with regards Wi Fi and beach towels and it is quite annoying to have to wear long trousers to dinner rather than shorts as you can in 5 star resorts in the Maldives but these elements did not spoil our enjoyment.

Room Tip: I would recommend the superior rooms by the quiet pool

Going home today after a relaxing ten day break on half board in a superior room. The management attention to detail is brilliant with the General Manager making himself known to each guest. The room we stayed in was steps from the beach and was cleaned to a very high standard and serviced throughout the day. No complaints whatsoever. The buffet theme changes each evening and is plentiful and of good quality. The stunner for me was Citronellas Restaurant bookings required but part of the half board package. I am wheat intolerant Nicholas the restaurant employee could not have been more accommodating the man is a magician. Overall would I come back YES but avoid the school holidays. The last two days coincided with the South African summer break from quiet relaxation to bedlam in 24hours. The management and staff deserve plaudits. Alcohol is expensive so bring along some duty free

I recommend this hotel to anyone in the world. I have seen people here from all over the world enjoying themselves so much. Kids loved the massive swimming pools. The beach is second to non. Lovely like warm water protected by a reef from waves. The food is excellent. Service brilliant. Entertainment very good. Where else in the world would you want to be? I will come back here again there is no doubt

This is a big resort! The facilities are excellent. We used the tennis courts, gym and spa while we were there which were well maintained and run facilities.

Our room was very good and had a nice view of the well manicured lawns and the beach. Given the number of guests we didn't have a problem with finding a lounger by the pool or beach.

The sea is a lagoon so in the afternoon when the tide goes out you aren't permitted to use the sail boats or windsurfers which was a bit frustrating as the wind usually picked up in the afternoon. The sand in the sea is also littered with dead coral and shells so I would recommend taking some shoes that you can wear if you want to spend much time in the sea (or do the windsurfing).

The breakfast buffet was pretty stunning - a superb choice of food. In the evenings the buffets were generally good but the odd evening was a bit disappointing with a lack of choice for mains.

The downsides of having such a large resort is the service isn't sometimes as slick as it should be. As an example we had to ask for coffee most mornings as it wasn't offered and in the evening we would sometimes be on the starter before our drinks order was taken. At £8 for a large beer it isn't cheap when it arrives!

Our 7 days honeymoon-trip in Mauritius is over. It is simply wise to chose Sugar beach restaurant according to the comments from web. There are beautiful views , friendly staff , rich cuisine ,by the way , a round pasta still in my memory which should be the most Chinese people's appetite probably. And there are a few chinese people stay in sugar beach is the most important thing , so that relaxed quiet atmosphere can be preserved.

Room Tip: rooms neer the hall can use free wifi and convenience to go boathouse where can play lots of sport o...
