La Pirogue is an excellent destination for families or couples! We travelled with our two-year old daughter and we had a blast. All the units are on the ground (which is great when you have children) and all the units have a sea-view. The food was sooooo good. Staff are very friendly and helpful! We will definitely return to La Pirogue for our next Mauritius holiday!!! :)

Stayed solo for total of six nights.
Having traveled a lot & working in tourism myself, I have rarely experienced such a world class service, felt like a warm hearted loving family around me always (total of 500 staff that is).

Beautiful beach, lots of activities (many free) and sharing facilities with the neighboring sister hotel Sugar Beach. Food choices were fabulous, lots of variety & excellent service (again). You can bring your own bottle of wine for dinner if you choose not to pay 4x as much as at the local wine store or duty free.

Can definitely recommend to anybody!

The La Pirogue is an established hotel with caring staff and good management. The beach-front location is excellent with a clean and sandy beach. The sea is rather shallow as the beach is shielded by a reef a hundred yards off-shore. The location is beautiful with well-maintained gardens and the accommodation although a little dated is in thatched bungalows that have character.
We stayed half-board and breakfast and dinner offered good choices and quality. The waiting staff are excellent and made us feel welcome.
The choice of free activities was good with free snorkelling trips, kayaking and windsurfing etc. as well as a good gym and free activities such as yoga each day.
All in all this is a very good hotel with staff who care and are helpful and is without doubt an excellent holiday choice.

My family and I visited La Pirogue between 13-20 Aug and there is only one word to describe the hotel, AMAZING!
From the moment we arrived we couldn't help but notice the beautiful grounds in which the hotel is situated. Everywhere we looked we could see beautifully arranged plants and foliage across the vast grounds belonging to the hotel. We've never taken so many pictures before! Even though all rooms were fully booked during our stay the grounds didn't feel at all crowded with hammocks, swing seats and sun loungers always available. There was always so much space on the beach as well. The grounds and rooms have an authentic feel that suits the surroundings. This was exactly what we were looking for having experienced something similar in The Maldives.
From check-in to departure the service was impeccable. The staff take immense pride in what they do and nothing is too much trouble. "No problem" seemed to be the hotel's slogan. Ashok the manager was extremely helpful, friendly and always very welcoming as was the Head Waiter, Ravin. We are now happily recommending this hotel to our friends and family and will not hesitate to visit this hotel again if we are lucky enough to have the chance to visit Mauritius in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 33 and we had a clear view of the beach and sunsets. This area of the resort is al...

I visited this hotel about 7 years ago on a business trip then it was ok as I only stay there for one evening, they moved me to Sugar Beach for the rest of my stay. I have just returned back on a business trip and found that this Hotel has not changed. The rooms still look old and have no class or style. Small things are missing such as slippers, gowns. The shower head does not work properly. While having dinner it's so dark that you cannot see what you are eating. I found my food that I ate that evening still raw "beef liver" was still bleeding the onions what they serviced with it were still raw. The food was very bland, the only item that was good was the pizza great taste but the centre was under cooked. Breakfast was great. Wifi not working bad when you here on business. Great view of the sea and pool area.

Room Tip: I'm not sure I would want to stay here again, for the price you pay it's not worth the stay...

Dear Guest,
It is with great concern that we read your feedbacks on this forum. We are really sad that our authentic hotel and the thatched rooms were not up to your conveniences. Your comments have been passed on to the concerned departments and are being taken into serious considerations. As for the Wi-Fi, you will be glad to learn that it has been upgraded to a much faster one with increased bandwidth and connectivity.
Thank you again for your constructive feedbacks and we hope to see you again at La Pirogue.
Respectfully yours

My husband and I stayed here 28Jul-4Aug.

Check in
We arrived at 7pm and was welcomed by the warm and friendly Shirley who made us feel so at home. She made the check-in seamless and was a pleasure dealing with her. We were offered delicious drinks and cold facecloths on arrival as well. Overall impression-great!

Our stay
We stayed in room174 which we found midway between everything and was perfect for us. The rooms were spacious enough for us with ample storage. The grounds and the beach areas were immaculate and were all sheer relaxtion.

Food
We stayed here half board and this suited us perfectly. Yes, prices are very high at the hotels, but this is with all the hotels in the area. At Thatches we found the meal variety plentiful and each night a different theme. On the thursday they had the fish buffet outside which was awesome. Breakfast was just as good with a wide variety. All the staff were friendly especially Poonan who assisted us 1 evening and made us feel so comfortable always checking up on us.
We also at Citronellas (part on half board so no extra costs) and we ate at Tides (here you receive 700rs p/p towards your bill). See seperate review for these restaurants which were nothing short of great.

Overall
I could not have had a better or more romantic time. My hubby and I were just flawed at how super friendly all the staff were and had genuine/sincere passion to make us feel welcomed. We have never experienced that before and yes we have travelled many times.
I honestly dont have anything to complain about and will give credit where do.
