Recently visited Sands with my wife as a part of our honeymoon and I can't rave about this place enough. It is extremely well laid out, with breathtaking views, beautiful rooms, and friendly staff. We arrived earlier than the normal check in time but were allowed to check in to our room without a charge; a huge relief after a long flight. We had a great time at Sands and would definitely be visiting again.

OK, so we went for a drink, but this looked pretty impressive. We had decided to find a bar in Flic en Flac on a Sunday night...wrong...the place was teeming with kids intent on partying, so we ventured out of town and after having been refused entry to other resort hotels (we were non-residents and wanted to have a drink) we met the friendliest security staff at The Sands who welcomed us with open arms - other hotels, take note.

The hotel was very well laid out with an infinity pool leading to a sea pool, and a large restaurant area, but we sat and people-watched with a few cocktails to help the time go by. As a bit of a cocktail aficionado I have to give the hotel bar top marks for excellently tasty and presented drinks (one of the few places that didn't make you feel like Derek Trotter!) The service was discreet and we could see why this hotel was popular. Thank you Sands for letting us in!

Me and my wife went to Mauritius for our honeymoon. After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, we booked two hotels out of which Sands was the first and LUX Belle Mare was the second. We stayed in Sands for 5 nights and everything about our stay here was amazing and unforgettable. We were welcomed with a refreshing towel and a broad smile. As soon as we entered the hotel, the view was breathtaking, the pool and the ocean behind it was just amazing. The entire staff is very friendly and ready to go out of the way to help you. We being from north India are not too much into sea food, therefore, we struggled with the food initially but the fruits and desserts made up for anything that was lacking. Even now just writing about the desserts makes my mouth water !! The rooms were clean, beautiful and view was great even though some of it was blocked by the trees.

The best people we met at the sands were at the boathouse, specially Michael. This guy is simply amazing, went out of the way to give me my first snorkel lesson and experience. I will never forget it. Kevin at the boathouse took us for the dolphin trip and it was so good that it made us forget the catamaran cruise which we took one day ago. The beach had corals which made it harder to walk on the shore close to the water, but it is in no way a deal breaker. Sadly, our love affair with sands came to an end because we had only booked 5 nights and had to shift to LUX Belle Mare which was also a good hotel but sands being sands will always be missed. Before we left, Michael gave me an audio CD sung by him and his family and i was really moved by his gesture. Me and my wife talk about our stay at the sands all the time and would love to come back one day :)

Room Tip: For better privacy book the 1st or 2nd floor rooms on the tamarind wing side.

We arrived from Mauritius airport around 4pm and there was the General Manger to welcome us. We were the seated, refreshing towel, cool drink, check-in and orientation; then the 5 night holiday began.
This night was the seafood BBQ on the beach which was booked out so the next night we treated ourselves with the Lobster Extravaganza, (see photo of menu) The staff were superb as I am gluten intolerant (pain in the butt eh?) and they went out of their way for all meals to ensure I ate correctly and well, thank you. Only downside was that their own Spa faculties were been renovated and to have a massage you had to robe up and transfer to another property.
This was certainly the place to unwind after our hectic South African Adventure.

Room Tip: As Sands Resort & Spa is extremely popular book well in advance to save any disappointment

My wife and I were lucky enough to spend 7 days here last week, we had done a lot of searching and chose the Sands and were delighted with the choice, from the minute we arrived with a welcome drink and check-in in the room we were treated very well, all staff were great, they could not do enough to make us feel welcome. We chose the half board option, the choices at breakfast were good, the best way to start the day. Refreshing complimentary drink served by the pool around Eleven, repeated during the afternoon, followed by 2 glasses of rum at 6pm, the choices for evening meal were good. Complimentary glass bottom boat trip was good, take some beach shoes as a little rocky. The staff were really good, all were very happy to help, location was good, you can walk into Flic en Flac on the beach, did not see much there to entice us in, but took opportunity to stock up on water and beer. Did a trip around the southern part of the island which involved trip to a glass factory and the distillery. We were delighted with our trip and were more than happy with the hotel and all staff deserve credit for running the hotel like clockwork. Would recommend this, and hope to go back in the future. we were informed the spa was out of action during our stay but it looked close to being completed.

All in all well done and thanks for making our trip a memorable one

We were impressd with the friendliness of all the staff. The hotel setting is supurb and set on the quite, wind free side of the island. Tnere is one pool and bar area as the hotel is quite small but more than adequate. The beach is lovely and the hotel is the last of many resorts so the beach is more private than others. The staff, from cleaners to management, go out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. The spa was closed for renovations which was rather odd as their peak seaon, and we were not advised before arriving. However, we were taken, 2 minutes away, to the Maradiva which was excellent. The masseuse were from our hotel and all treatments were fantastic.

Highly recommend the catamaran cruise, dolphin cruise and to visit the markets at Port Louis and waterfront. We also went up to Grand Baie for the day. Always haggle at the markets, it is expected and the locals are so funny about it and come out with some hilarious comments. As soon as they knew we were south afican they gave us an "african price".

The Sands is a very quite, relaxed resort, not really for young families or small kids.

The dinners on the beach are so romantic and worth the extra money. If you are planning to go on excursions take the half board optiion as most tours include lunch.

Ony gripes, buffett food needs to be upgraded as it was not very good and the rooms need to be cleaned and revamped. Our room was not cleaned or swept properly, especially the bathroom, for the entire 10 day stay. it needs better supervision.

All in all higly recommend this resort and would come back.

Room Tip: Tamarin side on ground or 1st floor. Top floor, only 2, palm trees obstruct view. Ground floor roo...

Just spent ten nights here. I have never been to any hotel which has such good staff. Everyone from the lowest to the most senior staff could not do enough for you. The hotel runs like clockwork. The manager is running a first class operation. Special thanks to Vicky in the boat house who thought me to waterski and also to sail and also to the lady who welcomes you at breakfast and dinner. If they don't read trip someone could give them a pat on the back.

If you want a relaxing holiday where you can just chill out then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: All rooms look good
