We went on a family holiday to the Oberoi. Our first experience in an Oberoi and we were not disappointed.

Pros
1. We had a luxury family villa (102 & 105 which were in their own private garden) which was brilliant. Very well equipped, great room service (especially the wonderful towel creations made in our kids villas every day!), clean and spacious. The private pool and garden gave us excellent privacy and comfort. For a family of four this arrangement of villas is excellent. Villas had excellent air conditioning and the beds were really comfortable.
2. The service in the hotel was excellent at every level. The cleaning, the spa, the bars and restaurants and the guys that looked after the beach and water sport were all friendly and nothing was too much.
3. The property was beautiful. Greenery everywhere and so well maintained. The beech was cleaned every evening and the sunsets were beautiful.
4. The water sports were well managed. we went deep sea fishing (cost about £350 but not a bite) and the water skiing (free) were a nice opportunity to learn to ski in a stress free environment. The hotel also has boats, peblos, wind surfers and all other kinds of equipment.

The Cons
1. Like a previous reviewer, the price of food is ridiculous in the main restaurant and the menu hardly changes. A meal for 4 with two courses will be in the region of £200 and for 10 nights thats theft!!
2. The food at The Rocks is better value (just) but still expensive. We ate 7 nights at The Rocks (better food and cheaper) than the Restaurant (average food and expensive)
3. Taxi costs are silly money too. We went 2x to Grand Bay (well worth a visit) and once to Port Louis (not such a good place really).
4. The golf at the hotel next door (Maritim) was £100 (9 holes plus hire of clubs and 6 balls) plus a taxi cost of £12 (for a 5 minute trip). The course was basically a chip and put course NOT worth playing

So the advice to visitors

1. If you have a family try and get the family villas 102 and 105
2. Hire a car and go out to eat and visit the place. I am sure a hire car will pay for itself in taxi and high meal cost savings
3. Don't play golf at the Maritim

But it is a great place and we will go again but hire a car next time.

Cheers

Room Tip: If a family go for the Villas 102 and 105 that are in a private walled garden

We stayed at the The Oberoi last month for a week and i would say that this was one of the best Holiday resorts i have ever stayed. Everything about this place was great right from hospitality, food, service and attitude of the staff. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by Amanda from the front desk who was very helpful thoughout our 7 day stay at the resort, be it for a taxi or knowing the places to visit in Mauritius she was always there to help and guide us. The exeperince at the The Oberoi truely met our expectations. I was mesmerised by their professionalism. We had booked the Luxury Pavillion. The room was clean, good and adequate in size, very comfortable and had the lawn and sea view, it had the view of Port Louis at a distance too. The food at the main restaurant and "On the Rocks" was good. Would like to mention Amrish from the restaurant whose service was really good. The atmosphere at the resort is great and it all depends on the attitude of staff working there. Every hotel staff that i met was exceptionally courteous. The hotel does have the taxi service that you can book if you want to visit places in Mauritius. The hotel does suggest some good restaurants if you wish to eat outside the hotel. The water sports available at the resort was good, but i found it a bit over rated, as in the price. The hotel has a really good gym and spa too. There are a lot of other activities at the resort with which you can spend your time. The breakfast was good but it gets a bit monotonous after 3 days, i would suggest, the resort should have live counters on few days with different varieties. Not a flaw but just a suggestion. Overall i will sum up my review by saying that by far this was the most fabulous liesure experience i have had and i will always recommend The Oberoi to everyone i know. I hope that i visit Mauritius again and for sure its gonna be " The Oberoi" where i would be staying.
This is for the entire staff of The Oberoi. Keep up the great job and keep Rocking.

I signed up to tripadvisor specifically to write a review of the fantastic Oberoi Mauritius. Our 7 night stay there over 31 July - 7 August was probably the best vacation I have ever had. Everything - accommodation, food, service, and activities - were top notch and provided with unsurpassed love and care.

We stayed in villa number 106 which had a private (enormous) pool and provided just the relaxing, romantic hideaway we were looking for and the public areas - pools and beach - were very enjoyable when we were feeling slightly more sociable. The rooms and public spaces were always spotlessly clean, there was always an abundance of towels and water and the facilities never felt crowded. There were always plenty of sun loungers, kayaks, etc for everyone and plenty of room on the activities like snorkeling.

The food at each restaurant as well as the in-room dining was all wonderful and varied enough to keep us both thoroughly satisfied throughout our stay. In-room dining was always hot and prompt (whether ordered from the room service or restaurant menu) and it was lovely to be able to sit in our private dining pavilion and enjoy a lovely meal por deux. We especially enjoyed the Mauritian tasting menu we had in the Gunpowder Room the Monday night of our stay. It was a great way to sample the lovely, fresh fusion / creole cuisine of the island (salt fish and green papaya salad....mmmmm) and the rum tasting and boozy coffee making was a wonderful end to the evening. The drinks and snacks at the bar and on the beach were another highlight...especially during sunset. I have tried and failed to re-create the 'almond citrus breeze' since returning home!

To conclude, by far the most amazing thing about this property is its staff. The level of warmth and service they provide is remarkable. Everyone should be commended for the lengths they will go to in order to ensure guests are well taken care of and how quick everyone is with a friendly word or a smile. The staff at the Oberoi are really great ambassadors of the Mauritian people.

Special thanks go to the boathouse crew (Anna, Vom, the young guy who does the snorkeling trips) who took excellent care of my outrageously embarrassed husband after he capsized a dinghy. He was so embarrassed and mad at himself but the boathouse guys rescued him quickly and made sure a few scrapes he got from the reef were seen to with the swiftly-produced first aid kit. And even though the capsizing was completely my husband's fault, management sent a lovely letter and plate of chocolates to make sure he was okay!

Anyways, it was truly painful to return to Mauritius airport with its throngs of people and the promise of a return to work, responsibilities, etc after a week of being wrapped in bliss at the Oberoi. Thank you to everyone there....from the bottom of my heart. My husband and I really needed that vacation and you guys all made it truly memorable. I turn 35 in 2016 and we will definitely be back for that!

Room Tip: Our villa with pool (#106) was spectacular. This villa has a really wonderful open feel to it and a...

This is the place to be if you want to be pampered big time.
Friendly and natural staff who is there when you need them.
From the gardener to the GM, all get all thumbs we have up.
The SPA is the place to be, not only for women but also for men.
We had a rent a car and could drive around the island. There are a lot of small restaurants left and right of the smaller streets along the sea shore. Nevertheless, there were days we did not go out at all and the restaurants in the hotel always created THE perfect dinner. Excellent recommendations and sometimes we were asked to just lean back, enjoy the sound of the ocean or watch the stars in the sky and for dinner the chef prepared something special for us. And YES, we were never ever disappointed that we had given ourselves into the hands of the entire team.
Looking forward to coming back again in 2015.

Pros:

1. Amazing property with lot of greenery, tranquil, decent pools, near a beach, good water sports activities (lot of activities are free as well)
2. Service is top notch. House keeping standards ver good, room service staff good as well as Spa team. Special thanks to Amanda and Sohanee for taking care of our 3 year old for almost entire day.
3. Overall a good place for a peaceful n tranquil vacation

Cons:
1. Breakfast is same everyday and it becomes repetitive if you are staying more than 3 days.
2. Chefs need to be innovative. Oberoi has a legacy of having exceptional restaurants in their properties but this one is an exception. Even Gun powder room dinner was average.
3. Commute to restaurants in Grand Baie or Port Louis is expensive. It is 60 USD for a 15-20 mins drive and not many options otherwise.

Tips:
1. Pavilion room is good enough and no need to splurge on Pool room etc consering pools on property.
2. Mauritius is much more than beaches. It has hills, greenery and lot nature as well in a small island. So enjoy your vacation and Oberoi is definately the place to stay.

Dear Guest,

It was a pleasure to meet with you during your recent stay with us.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your kind comments on the product and services on offer.

We are however disappointed that you did not enjoy the food on offer at the resort. Thank you for sharing your comments. We have shared your feedback with our kitchen team.

The Gunpowder room features authentic Mauritian/ Creole food twice a week which is normally well appreciated by all our guests. Further, we are one of the closest resorts to restaurants in the vicinity amongst others on the island.

We trust you will continue to patronise Oberoi Hotels and Resorts.

From the moment we landed in the airport we had an amazing experience . Me and my husband came for our fifth year anniversary. The Oberoi exceeded our expectations in all aspects, food, service, spa and many more.

When we arrived we ve been welcomed by Natasha concierge manager and her team , been offered cocktails on arrivals then been guided to our room. The room was very clean, modern, opening into patio with everything that you need to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable, sun beds... The bathroom had a very nice style with glass wall leading to mini garden.

We went to poolside and lorenza offered us fruits on stick, water ... Anything we wanted been done within minutes. The service is in Oberoi is amazing and everyone is very nice. We went for a special occasion and they made it even more special. Try the dinner on the beach it really is special. The food in both restaurants is very fresh, delicious. They pay attention to every little detail and will make sure that s done to the best.

I really enjoyed the spa , Booni the manger, Rachna receptionist and Preety the beautician are all very nice and will make sure you have a great experience of spa.

We also went for the sculpture class, it was an interesting two hours, if you go to The Oberoi try it. The yoga and other daily activities is another plus for The hotel.

The hotel s not very big but that's the beauty of it because by the second day everyone was calling us my names and they knew what we like and would have accommodate all our wishes. complimentary water on the beach and poolside, cocktails, fruits on stick. You have to visit this little paradise on the earth to feel it, words can not describe it.

The pillows were not very comfortable for me and I couldn't see a pillow menu I asked Amanda who also was organising our beach dinner and within 10 minutes all pillows changed to what we used to sleep. Anything you like just have to ask they will provide without hesitation , everyone is extremely polite and nice.

The beach has some rocks and shells but still is very very beautiful , we tried some of the water activities and were great. I don't think anyone will get board in The Oberoi, there s always shortage of time.

Best relaxation Holliday with amazing food and service.

We went out one night to a restaurant revommonded by hotel, but highly advice do not eat out the food in hotel is the best nothing in local restaurants  can satisfy guests after tasting the food in the main or on the Rocks restaurant. It's a nice experience to see villages but the quality of the food and service is not comparable.

Food is not cheap but for that quality and service is reasonable.

They got us beautiful flower, wine and decorated the room and shower for our anniversary night as well as delicious cake. Unfortunately the pavilion villas were occupied next time we will stay in one of those. However our room was also very very nice.

Thank you The Oberoi. We will be back.

Room Tip: Leena was very helpful she offered us a room with great beach view, if you are looking to have more...
