We ended our honeymoon with a week at Le Victoria after visiting Cape Town and having a few days on Safari. We had a Junior Suite which was nice, spacious and Zaine did a great job of keeping the room tidy. We had an access door from the terrace which was handy when popping back from the beach. Good service by all staff, particularly on the beach. As we wanted a more intimate dining experience we chose to dine at Le Horizon and Il Casa restaurants rather than the buffet, we just found the quality of food much better and escaped the screaming kids (nothing against the kids as we knew this was a family hotel but it was nice to have a quieter experience on honeymoon), we found breakfast in the buffet area to be a bit of a scrum! Any issues were sorted quickly. We went on the all inclusive package which I think was well worth it if you just plan to chill out in the resort. Overall an enjoyable week, although not quite the personal touches we had hoped for!

My husband, daughters (19 and 21yrs) and I had split our vacation - a week in a service apartment where we explored the island and its beaches and then the last 4 days at a resort to just lounge and relax by the beach. Le Victoria Hotel was our chosen resort. Having read a horrific review the day before our arrival, we were apprehensive and nervous about our choice. All I can say is that I feel sorry for the reviewer's experience on a family holiday. As hard as I tried, I did not spot any cats or dogs running around until my kids showed me a cat on our last day being fed by one of the guests. We also knew beforehand that Pointe Aux Piments beach had rocky sections and the hotel has signs to wear watershoes to prevent injury.

Check-in: Efficient and quick. We had called in the morning asking if we could do an early check-in and were told our two adjacent rooms would be available for us by 11:30am.

Rooms: We were thoroughly impressed by the huge rooms and bathrooms. It had all the amenities we expected and the beds were extremely comfortable. Our only complaint was the lighting was dim and it would have been nice if the lights were connected with our keycard. Since they weren't, we had to go around closing all the lights, TV before we left the room.
Beach: The beachfront was long, white sand, clean and uncluttered. The water was placid and swimmable. Snorkling trips to the reefs and waterskiing were free activities as well as sailing and paddleboats and kayaking. There is a diving center on the beach, that is not affiliated with the hotel.

Activities: We had half expected a lot of noise and children given the hotel had gotten the Tripadvisor Family 2012 award but were surprised that we weren't overwhelmed by kids in the least bit. We saw plenty of children at breakfast and dinner but during the day, near the pool and on the beach, we mainly saw adults. We suspect that most of the activities are geared around the under 13 yr olds and somehow they are kept busy in other parts of the hotel that we did not venture to. There is a complimentary sauna/hamam that has a most exuberant and friendly woman at the reception who makes one feel so welcome.

Halfboard vs Fullboard: We had decided to do halfboard which included breakfast and dinner and were quite happy with our decision. The difference between fullboard and halfboard was large enough that we would have to be eating and drinking non-stop to be able to justify it. We opted against eating at one of the restaurants since half-boarders had a set-menu and instead chose to eat on all days at Le Superbe, the buffet restaurant. The variety was was enough to satisfy all our tastes. Anil, our waiter at Le Superbe was what epitomizes the best of the hotel's friendliness. Management should let some of the other waiters/waitresses take lessons from Anil on how to make guests feel special.

Overall: Our family enjoyed our stay at Le Victoria. Our checkout was at noon but our flight was at 10pm. We requested to be shifted into a single room so that we could rest before our long overnight flight home. We were initially told that we would be charged for it and we agreed. However, at check-out, we were told that it was complementary and that gesture took us by surprise and again re-affirmed that Le Victoria's staff and management were interested in the comfort and good-will of their guests. Thanks to everyone who made our stay comfortable!!

Room Tip: We didn't stay in a ground floor room thinking it would be difficult to lock but we noticed that...

Have nothing but compliments for Le Victoria Hotel in Mauritius. Everything was excellent. But, do ask to stay on the far side away from the nightly entertainment if you are an early to bed person. Mauritius on the other hand........ such a disappointing destination. about 80% of the island is under sugar cane. All the hotels are built along the coast line so if you are driving on the north east, north and north west side of the island all you see are walls which encase the hotels. They are protected like Fort Knox due to the high crime rate on the island. There are thousands of stray dogs, starving and disease ridden so if you are looking for a Purpose in Life, the dogs in Mauritius would welcome you rescuing them. Very sad to see. Can't say that the island is particularly picturesque due to the high amount of sugar cane and virtually no trees left. Would I recommend Mauritius, no. Would I recommend Le Victoria, yes, absolutely. There is obviously a lot of poverty there which can be seen from the tin shacks which are all over the island. The population is one and a half million which is a lot of people on such a small island. If you do take a trip there, enjoy.

Room Tip: Not near the nightly music if you are not a night owl!

Just returned from 2 and a bit weeks at Le Victoria, 2 adults and 3 kids (aged 13, 11, and 7). Absolutely fantastic, especially for families. If I didn't have children, perhaps I would choose somewhere else. Family rooms absolutely huge.
The service from the hotel staff is the best I have ever experienced. Nothing ever too much trouble. Food at all 3 restaurants (on all inclusive option) very good. Watersports also excellent.
Overall difficult to fault. If I had one small gripe, the pool was freezing!

Room Tip: Take all inclusive package

I stayed there for 6 nights on a business trip. It has splendid beach with water sporting activities. The rooms are large & neat fully decored
So many dining options & a king size buffet for all meals. Surprisingly they do serve Indian food. I must say a good place for corporate conferencing & leisure. This hotel is in close proximity with Oberoi where I had my work. Their spa is functional but hotel however discourages guests from using the spa, their in house shops on lobby level sell good local Mauritian stuff & water sports wear. The hotel has some or the other entertainment theme night in of their restaurants. An overall 8/10 good family hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor have partial sea view

we decided to go to Mauritius for my husbands special birthday, taking our two children ages 19 and 20.
this was our first trip to Mauritius, we arrived at Le Victoria at about 5.30pm and we greeted by warm friendly hosts, given some refreshments and then shown to our rooms, we were blown away by the size of the room and bathroom, very spacious and well equipped.
The food was outstanding, all three resturants were first class. The all inclusive package is certainly worthwhile, all local drinks are free and most water sports. My children were most impressed with the beach service, they could order food and drinks throughout the day !

All staff members went out of there way to be friendly and helpful.

We shall return to Le Victoria as soon as we can !!

Room Tip: We were fairly close to the reception, which worked out well.

We stayed in Le Victoria in October 2009. We booked through Destinology and also stopped in Dubai for a few nights on the way out.
We found the hotel to be very relaxing, clean with lovely restaurants. We were all inclusive and liked the fact that you dont have to wear bands on your wrist and just sign for everything. The sandwiches at lunch were great and the cocktails very good too.
As the wine was also included we were drinking some great south african whites! We also enjoyed meals in the other restaurants and just paid a bit extra to have lobster.
My daughter really enjoyed the kids club and did water skiing, crab hunting and they were getting ready for halloween just as we left.
We found the service to be a bit hit and miss in the buffet restaurant, but the food was good.
The beach is a bit rocky, but its very pretty and I enjoyed watching many sunsets on the beach.
We didnt do any trips just went into Port Louis, which was okay and a change of scenery for a few hours.
I didnt think much of the Spa, I had a hot stone massage and the lady kept clunking the stones together, so not very peaceful!
Overall If you book Le Victoria I am sure you will wont regret it! : )
