We went there for our honeymoon. We stayed in a premium room with ocean view. It was awesome in brief. The stuff were very friendly eagering to help, very kind. The food was delicious and we loved the croissants there. It was one of the most enjoyable things to have a breakfast that we could not wait for it.

But their garden was relatively small.

It was wonderfull to watch the sunset from our window, bed was comfortable.

We definetly recommend this hotel.

We had been to Essaouira before, two years ago and liked it so much, we decided to go again. Last time we stayed in the Sofitel, but the offers at the Atlas were much more reasonable, we decided to stay there.

The hotel reception area is large and airy, is very cool after a hot day outside and smells great!

On arrival at about 12.30 midday, we were met by charming reception staff, who despite us being early, booked us into our room in about 10 minutes. We had booked a standard pool side room, but to our surprise, we were given an unrequested upgrade to a superior room with sea view. It was huge!! We had a separate sitting area, and a 7 foot bed. The pillows were very hard, but this is my only minor criticism. The bathroom was good, with a huge bath and powerful shower.

The pool area was very nice, the pool being much bigger than it appears in the photos, towels were provided, and the sunbeds were very comfortable. However, the pool was very cold. OK to swim in, but much too cold to just laze in.

Breakfast was very good, with quite a selection of food, although the selection was the same every day. It took us about 3 days to get through all the choices!

The medina was about a mile away, about a 25 minute stroll. You can walk along the beach or the promenade, so it is a very pleasant walk. After a 3 course evening meal in the medina, the walk home gives your food time to go down!

Staff in the hotel were very very nice. Sometimes it is apparent that this hotel is new and the staff inexperienced, but they try their best. After all, most people are on holiday, so what does it matter if service takes a few minutes longer than you would expect? My advice while you are waiting is relax and enjoy the view!!

We ate in the medina most evenings. Our favourite restaurant is Ferdaouss, in a side alley off the main street. The food here is excellent, beautifully spiced and cooked. We ate here twice. they do not serve alcohol. Another memorable meal was at La Licorne, which is in the walkway along the side of the ramparts. Again, beautifully prepared, and unusual take on the moroccan classics. This restaurant does serve alcohol, but is is rather expensive (the alcohol, not the food!) We did not eat in the hotel, except breakfast, so I have no idea what the food is like there.

Essaouira is a great place to visit, being so much more laid back than Marrakech.

Comparing the Atlas with the Sofitel;

Breakfast; more choice and slightly better quality at the Sofitel
Rooms; larger and more comfortable at the Atlas (although you get fruit in the Sofitel)
Pool; both very good and both very cold!
Service; good in both, the Sofitel has more experienced staff, but all staff are very helpful
Grounds; Atlas grounds are larger and very well tended
Distance from medina; Sofitel 10 mins, Atlas 20-25 mins.

Overall, if I go to Essaouira again, I would opt for the Atlas, at present it is far more reasonably priced than the Sofitel, with very little difference in the levels of service.

The spa in the Atlas is stunning!

If you stay in this hotel, i hope you enjoy your break as much as we did.

We spent a week at this hotel, there was nothing wrong with it whatsoever BUT it had no atmosphere and felt more like a business hotel. If you like this type of place you will not be able to fault it, but if you want to experience Essaouira properly and get the feeling of Morocco find yourself a nice riad in the old town.
Also bear in mind it is a 10-15 minute (flat) walk to Essaouira old town where most of the resaurants and sights are.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel (Sept 2009).

We booked a standard room through expedia. I was slightly concerned when booking as the form indicated a twin room and offered no other choice for standard room. i decided to go through with the booking and just put a request for a double bed. The room we got was hugh with a massive King size bed and beach view.

We were able to sunbath by the pool, The weather was perfect and ourstay was not disturbed by winds that I hear are notourious in Essaouira.

Staff were friendly and always willing to help. Im not a big fan of walking and did have concerns about the distance from the medina when booking. But it is a really pleasant 15min walk along the beach into town that we felt comfortable doing at all hours. don't let this put you off booking as for the price it's an amazing value for money!

I would definately return and only wish i could of stayed longer....

We have stayed in the hotel from 12th until the 19 th of August. When we checked in (comming from Marrakech) it was about 7 p.m. and our room was not ready yet. Without any explanation or excuses we had to wait. After 10 minutes we became irritated and they gave us another room. But that was only the start. The other members of the crew are very helpfully. When we checked out, the staff of the reception insured us that they have called a taxi for us. Unfortunately they didn't, so we alsmost missed our bus.
The hotel is beautifull designed and very spatial. The rooms, the swimmingpool and the breakfast are all perfect. You will have a gread luxurious stay. Sometimes the housekeeping didn't come, we had to ask them. We had several times a great lunch in the beachrestaurant Le Seven, belonging to the hotel as wel. Our son have had great surflessons at ' Club Mistral' and we had diner at several places. Their are a lot of good restaurants, one of them is 'After 5'.

The newest of about 4 allegedly 5* hotels in an old arab fishing town that is alive with people.
On arrival the hotel is stylish and grand, reception and staff very polite, helpful and efficient. We booked a room with a sea view which looked over the main beach and the coast road, not noisy just active.
My main criticisms of this somewhat expensive hotel for the area/country was the room. I have never stayed in a 5* hotel which has a ardrobe with only 2 clothes hangers and no drawers or cupboard space anywhere. We ended up leving our clothes on the furniture and over chairs. We did get more hangers the next day but no cupboards or drawers??
Other than our included breakfast we did not eat in the hotel.
Breakfast was reasonable, a wide variety of food from eggs, cereal and fruit to Arabic mint tea. It was a bit of an ordeal because of the lack of cups and so many trying to get as much on a plate as humanly possible - is this not becoming more of a pain everywhere?
The private hotel beach was a real bonus as the locals invade during the summer and the sight is unbelievable from dawn to the early hours - not a problem but a fantastic sight and feel.
The walled medina was tight and crowded all day and night and only worrying if you get too lost in the residential alleyways off the shopping routes.
With so many excellent restaurants in the town from the harbour all through the medina you are thoroughly spoiled for choice. I would recommend Chez Sam at the end of the harbour but most do delicious tagines and seafood. A must at least once are the seafood stalls between the harbour and the medina where 20 or so small fishmongers with barbeques and tables cook your choice of seafood to order with drinks and salad for good prices.
The town craftsmen and artists are superb but no chance of getting much back with charter airlines weight restricitons. Not much other than the sun and wind/water sports locally so about 5 days would be plenty here.
Hotel expensive and rooms under furnished but recommended rather than taking the lottery of picking accomodation when you get there.
