“Super stylish bolthole in the medina”
Reviewed 29 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Absolutely loved this 4 story house in the medina. Emma was amazing and showed us all around and introduced us to some wonderful restaurants and shops. The house has everything you could need including 2 sunny terraces, a fabulous kitchen and 4 cosy bedrooms. The home cooked meal on our first night was plentiful and delicious.
We felt that this house was ideal for a group of friends looking for a sunny break in lovely laid back Essaouira.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed 28 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Dar Beida is a great house to rent as it gives you a chance to experience another side of Essaouira as you are staying in the main hub of the town rather than in a more touristy district. You can pop out for bread, fruit etc within metres of the house. Emma is also an invaluable source of help & information, from where to buy slippers to booking the best table at the nicest restaurants in town. We loved Essaouira , the flights from Luton make it super easy as well, so we are already thinking about when we can return.
Amina kept the house spotless & cooked a great meal for our first evening. The roof terrace is great for sunny days & the fireplaces & logs supplied keep you warm on the chillier nights.

“A jewel in the medina”
Reviewed 7 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

I can't imagine that there's a lovelier place to stay in Essauouria. The house is beautiful, stylish and comfortable. No wonder it's been in so many magazine shoots. It's exactly the sort of place that makes you wish you had a beautiful holiday home of your own! It's right in the middle of the medina which we all loved as it's so interesting to see the local people going about there daily lives. The shop keepers looked out for us and made us feel part of the neighbourhood. Emma and Graham had gone above and beyond in making so many thoughtfull arrangements for us - taxis, horse riding, quad biking, a hamman, restaurant bookings, an informal tour of the medina - we were able to relax and enjoy the city immediately. The meal prepared for us on the first night was wonderful. We had a wonderful four days.

“Wonderful stay with friends and family”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed at Dar Beida over the 2015 New Year there were 8 of us in total and initially Emma was a bit worried it might be too small for us, but it was absolutely perfect, the location is fantastic with all the energy and convenience of the medina on your doorstep.
Everything in the house is as described on the castles in the sand website although the pictures do not do it justice as it is even better in real life. The terrace on the upper floors is a further bonus, the size is good and it's a great place to relax.

So the house ticked all the right boxes.

Location - The medina in Essasouira is an amazing place to explore and everything is within a 10 min walk from the house, it is a manageable size so isn't anywhere near as daunting as we were expecting. The house is in the middle of the food quarter so you can escape the drudgery of supermarket shop whilst on Holiday and watch the stallholders (mobile) change their offer depending on the time of the day. You can also grab essentials from the shops that are across the passageway from the front door. Having said all of these wonderful things about being right in the middle of everything you would expect the trade off to be a lot of noise but even that is minimal as there aren't any motor vehicles.

Now the bit that really surpassed our expectations the people behind Dar Beida - Emma the owner of the house and 'Castles in the Sand' and Amina who looked after us and the house.

Emma is the font of all knowledge when it comes to Essaouira and it's environs. nothing was too much trouble and besides recommending everything from the best place to buy a rug , croissant, have a shave or to visit a hamman. She also organised trips to souks, surfing, horse-riding and booked the best restaurants and lots more all on our behalf!

We cannot recommend Emma's service and local knowledge highly enough. Even if you dont stay here you might want to engage her to help make your stay truly memorable.

Amina looked after the house and cooked us the most stunning meals for around £11/12 per head. We especially appreciated the meal that arrived with us at 9pm after our journey from marrakech. There were 8 (2 little ones) of us and we ordered for 6 on Emma's recommendation and still had enough food for lunch the following day, it was delicious, fresh and cooked with stunning local produce.

We were also blessed with amazing weather whilst we were there which with all of the above combined meant we all agreed we had one of the most relaxing and interesting weeks on holiday for a long time.

A massive thank you to Emma and Amina for making all of this happen.

“Its just the most amazing house”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Dar Beida:

This is the most fabulous place to stay in Essouria. The house is wonderfully decorated, over 4 floors with 2 large roof terraces to sit and enjoy the sunshine. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Essouria then you really should consider booking here.

Situated in the heart of the Medina it is an oasis of calm, against the amazing backdrop of the hustle and bustle right on your doorstep. The house has everything you could possibly want, comfortable beds, brilliant decor and a fabulous big kitchen and dining area. And Wi-fi !

Emma the owner is just amazing and NOTHING is too much trouble for her. She is there to make sure that your trip is care free and relaxing. She is the most gracious host. She knows where to go in terms of food and her recommendations were always spot on.

The house has everything that you can want, and its super stylish.

All in all if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Essouria this is the ONLY place to go.

“Excellent location for your stay with a group (max. 8) in Marokko”
Reviewed 8 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We really enjoyed our stay at Dar Beida, thank you for having us!
The house is so well designed and well-equiped, it has been a great pleasure for the six of us. Emma and Graham did a great job in re-designing the riad in Essouira. We recommend this house for any group of maximum 8 people to enjoy a relaxing holiday at the Atlantic coast.

“Nothing bad to say”
Reviewed 9 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Dar Beida is a beautiful Moroccan Townhouse located in the backstreets of The Medina. It's close to anything you may want to buy from fresh baguettes sold direct from the wood-fired oven to the amazing range of fresh produce on offer in the main shopping market 2 minutes away. We felt welcomed by everyone we met and were sad to say goodbye to our new local friends when we left.
The house is a real treat. Plenty of comfortable nooks and crannies to hide away with a book. Two good roof terraces and a great main kitchen and living area. THe house was clean throughout thanks to the lovely Amina who came every day (and cooked one night for us too). Bedrooms are lovely too. Kids had one each and my wife and I took the crows nest up a final set of external steps with its own roof terrace and big glass doors.
If you want a base to get to see and feel part of the town stay here. We certainly will be again.
