Chez DaMar is a stunningly beautiful Riad within the Medina.
It is tranquil and has been renovated and decorated beautifully in a quirky, chic Moroccan style. Really fabulous. There was lashings of hot water, crisp, white sheets and good wifi. Breakfast was served on the roof terrace by Halima who was wonderful and cooked two lovely meals during my stay. Anne is very knowledgable and personally took me around the Medina and showed me where to shop and eat. On the Sunday she accompanied me to the amazing flea market, taking a horse and carriage to this bustling place. She looked after me beyond the call of duty. Thank you.
Essaouira is a busy, colourful, vibrant place with a great shops and huge beach. The people are very friendly and the weather was fabulous. I would recommend Chez Dar Ma to everyone, you will be delighted.
A big thank you to Anne and Halima and kisses to the three gorgeous cats. I fell in love with Innie who kept me company each night.

We loved everything about this riad! It is perfectly located - 3mins from the bus stop and the same into the centre of the medina. Yes, ok many people have mentioned the dark alleyway that leads to it but this is quite typical in Morocco and it really wasn't a problem, it only made walking into the riad more impressive!

The riad is so beautifully designed and has a wonderful quirky, creative feel that instantly makes you realise you have stumbled upon a real gem! We loved the cats (Mo Mo, Jo Jo and little kitten Illie); our wonderful room (the green room); and most importantly - Allison and Hassan. They instantly made us feel at home and were on call for anything that we needed during our short stay in Essaouira.

On the first night, feeling a little all over the place after just arriving in Morocco, Hassan collected us from the bus and gave us some lovely moroccan mint tea and cake. Allison then walked us over to a fantastic little restaurant- it was the perfect start to our holiday.

We wish that we could have stayed for longer but we hope to visit again soon. We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts which were the best that we had in Morocco (thanks Allison/Halima)! We happily stuffed ourselves full of fresh fruit, home-made crumpets with butter, fresh orange juice, natural yoghurt (which Jo Jo helped us to finish!), bread and jams....bliss! When we had to get the 6am bus back to Marrakech, Allison kindly offered to get up and make us breakfast, we declined and so she packed us off with a wonderful selection of pastries and fruit.

For anyone coming to Essaouira, we wholeheartedly recommend Chez Dar Ma!

Thank you Allison, Hassan and Halima!

Room Tip: The green room was lovely! We peeked in the other - all really nice but we liked ours :)

Chez Dar Ma is a very relaxing experience! The riad is spotlessly clean and very characterful. The breakfasts are excellent and Allison was very accommodating when we had to leave early - making us breakfast well before the usual time. From the riad it is a five minute walk through some charaterful streets to the tourist hubub. It is in a very Moroccan area - I really liked this and thought it was really interesting but some might not be ok with it depending what they are used to. Overall a very relaxing stay and I would definitely return there if I was visiting Essaouira again!

Had a lovely 5 days at Chez Dar Ma. The Riad is lovely, very clean and very comfortable. Alison really is lovely. We had a lovely time chatting and swapping stories. She also gave us lots of great tips for shopping, food etc. Always on hand to help with anything.
And the breakfasts are wonderful. So fresh and tasty.Alison goes out early every morning to source the freshly made bread and gorgeous pancakes. Thanks again Alison and Halima.

If you arrive in Essaouira by the ‘Supratours’ bus you’ll only have a short five minute walk from the bus station to Allison & Anne’s delightful Riad, ‘Chez Dar Ma’. Barring any unforeseen event, Allison will normally be waiting for you at the bus station ready to take you back to her beautiful oasis in Essaouira. It’s situated up a rather non-descript little alley, but once you open the front door and step inside, you enter a spacious, beautifully decorated riad, full of plants, ceramic urns, rugs and all manner of local handicraft and with an atmosphere of peace and tranquility and warming sun (on the roof terrace), one can’t help but relax and wind down…

Apart from being wonderful hosts, Allison, Anne and Hassan helped us with many other aspects of our holiday, arranging sightseeing trips both in and around Essaouira, on foot and by hire car and they were also very knowledgeable about shopping, restaurants and where to buy cold beer.

If I went back to Essaouira I’d have no hesitation about staying at Chez Dar Ma again, it’s a wonderful spot. Oh, nearly forgot to mention, great breakfasts too!

Allisons Riad is perfectly placed to the bus station, an easy 5 minute walk by anyones pace and a short walk after entering the walls of the Medina. I did nearly get lost finding my way back from a walk around the alleys but, that was due to my dodgy inner compass and nothing more !
The Riad has been decorated beautifully and sympathetically and creates a feel of absolute tranquillity. Sitting in the lounge area I felt like I was lost in a little time warp.
Stepping out the front door you are then transported into the throng of the busy streets and alleys of the Medina itself with all its sights, sounds and smells...... A short hire car ride and you are somewhere else again with beaches and hillsides, goat herders camels, markets and much more. Definately a place to visit.

We had 3 nights in Marrakech in a basic but nice riad (the Marrakiss) in the medina and 3 nights booked to stay in the Chez Dar Ma in Essaouira, an easy 3 hour trip on the Supratours bus (70 MAD pp) from Marrakech to Essaouira. Chez Dar Ma is an easy 5min walk from the bus drop off, Alison is happy to collect you from the bus stop too. We were completely unprepared for how breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful the Chez Dar Ma is! There are 4 floors with two private little roof terraces on top of the 4th floor, gorgeous plants thrive on each floor with the light flooding in from the open roof. All the rooms looked to be gorgeous and individual, ours was on the third floor and we had the floor to ourselves, very spacious and homely, we were sad to leave! Breakfast is part of the deal and had up on the beautiful open roof terrace (4th floor) absolutely delicious and fresh. The riad is in the medina and perfect placement to shop, eat and go to the beach. Alison gave us brilliant recommendations for eateries, drinks places and anything else we could think of to fill our three days, all of which we would never have found without her. The chez dar Ma is so dreamily peaceful and beautiful we can't recommend it enough, thank you Alison!
