“A good Sephardi synagogue - am Israel chai!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

The building is a good sample of a Sephardi synagogue and is well worth a visit

Unfortunately, though there doesn't seem to be any minyanim.

The redevelopment described doesn't seem to be affecting the synagogue.

“Do you go to Morocco to read the Torah?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

this was quite a surprise . As we we started our trip this was the first example of the way that the Jewish community was once a real part of Moroccan culture . I was not looking for this but once inside it was fascinating.

“A remnant of the previous Jewish Community”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Our guide helped us to find the synagogue and called the phone number of the caretaker to allow us in. Several others just passed by the door in a small alleyway, but we waited and he opened the door for us and several others who came by at the same time. Our guide explained that almost 50% of the community here was Jewish until 1948 when the State of Israel was established and then most moved there. The synagogue itself has a few artifacts and we hope that it will be preserved. May still be used periodically for special events. You do need to get up a flight of stairs to see the sanctuary.

“Needs your support”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

This was a very interesting place. Clearly the whole area is being demolished ready for new tourist accommodation and apparently the synagogue is under threat. This would be a great shame not to mention short sighted. We were passing and invited in by a very friendly and non pushy guide/caretaker. Beautifully restored and looked after

“Very old and hidden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2014

The synagogue was beautiful but well hidden in not a pleasant part of town. A must. This is only used for special occasions of groups
