“Clean, great staff, but better value elsewhere”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

I booked Riad Thais based on the reviews here. It wasn't a bad spot, but maybe it was just our room. It was tiny and hot and the bathroom was like a closet in the room. We had no space to put our stuff and we had to open the windows to get a bit of air, but then it was quite noisy. Our bedside lamp didn't work either, which I suppose the staff wouldn't know unless the previous guests told them, which we did...so hopefully the next guests had a working one. The riad itself was nice, clean and had a good feel to it and the staff, Fatima and Monika, were great. Maybe the other rooms were fantastic, in which case we would have probably given a better review, but because there aren't many rooms and this was all we could get I would rather spend the same amount on something a bit better.

Room Tip: I didn't see the other rooms (I think they were bigger/better), but ours was on the higher floor...

I cannot praise this small riad enough. While it has been renovated in a more modern style, it retains a comfortable, warm atmosphere. The rooms are exceptionally clean and the beds just the right mix of firmness and softness for me. The wi-fi is fast and the four breakfasts I had were the best that I had in my 4 weeks in Morocco. The riad itself is located at the quiet end of one of the main streets of Essaouira's medina so there is no disturbance from outside during sleeping hours. The man square, port, restaurants, shopping area and cafes are all within an easy 5 minute walk.. Monika and Fatima were amazing hosts who helped make my first solo trip to Essaouira Morocco wonderful. I hope to return one day.

Small riad, well located, very clean, silent. Rooms are small but decorated with taste. There is a small and windy terrace on the rooftop. We had an excellent week end and we highly recommend this place.

We stayed in Riad Thaïs for four nights and could not be more happy. Very nice and peaceful atmosphere, Monika (the staff) is amazing. She's so friendly and gives you the best advice, the breakfast of Fatima is tasty and the rooms are very clean and beautiful. We would definitely recommend this Riad to other travelers! Jonas&Veerle

We stayed in Riad Thais for two days in May. The Riad is a beautiful blend of modern and traditional styles. It provided excellent value for money; it was extremely clean, the staff were friendly and overall the service was excellent. The breakfast was also a winner! The information Monika provided was really helpful in planning our time there. We spend an afternoon chilling at a lovely beach cafe and went to the most amazing restaurant both on her recommendation. The location was really central and the street during the day was very busy with markets. At night time it could feel a little intimidating with people hanging around on the street. However, we would definitely recommend the Riad based on our experiences.
