Reviewed 28 December 2013 via mobile

Thank you!!!
We had 2 wonderful nights at this charming riad! The room "Berber" fulfilled all our desires.)
Also the breakfast was the perfect start for the day.
Fatimazara helped us in organizing bicycles and a car - just ask her.
We highly recommend this riad!

Riad manager Fatimzara is soooo accommodating that you forget how great this Riad itself is. She would arrange anything you ask. I mean anything. She arranged a trip to an Argarn Co-op in Tizbit per our request and she was constantly in contact with a grand taxi driver during our trip to make sure we got what we had expected. She is just a pleasure to work with. Rooftop terrace is superb. We had lovely time there in evening with light snacks we had picked up from the medina. Breakfast was great and coffee was good, too. British-run burger place/café, La Cantina, was less than a half block away, just around the corner from the riad. We stayed in a Princess Room which is on second floor. I think it might have been the smallest room at the riad. That was the only thing - smallness of the room we had stayed - that we wish we had it different. From the staffs to the riad, this is not only a great value, but a great place to stay. Essaouira medina is much smaller than Fes and Marrakech and is much friendlier, I thought. The riad is close to everything - ramparts and souks.... It is quite part of the medina although there is a record or music shop next door or a couple of doors down, where music was blasting all day and into the evening (7 or 8 PM). The music wasn't a problem as we usually get back after dinner and for bed. By the way, the riad has the sign on the door, but does not have a hanging sign so that you might miss it first time. If you do, just go ask a kind British owner at La Cantina around the corner and she will direct you to the riad. We did. We walked from Bab Marrakech near SupraTour bus terminal to the riad. It took us about 10 minutes or so.
Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay in Riad Thais, from the moment we stepped inside the riad to the day we left. The hospitality was first class and FatimaZahra (Manager) provided us with all useful hints and tips to get around Essaouira. Fatima (housekeeper) made us a different breakfast every morning and it was really delicious and filling coupled with the breakfast being served on the roof terrace under the morning sun. Both Fatimas made our stay more enjoyable and relaxing.

I think the riad is placed ideally in the old medina, it is on one of the main streets of the medina but not too central so that you can enjoy some peace and quiet at times. Shops and restaurants are very close to the riad and so eating out or getting take away wasn’t a problem. A cash point is about 5 minutes from the riad.

There is a music shop about two doors away from the riad and he will blast his music from about 11am until 8pm; although that didn’t bother us too much as we were out during the day. Also, there is a youth centre next to the riad, although it is noisy and full of teenagers during the day, it is shut and fully quiet by 9-10pm. The teenagers made no trouble and we felt very safe in the area.

The beach promenade is about 10-15 minutes walk from the riad and the strolls and time spent there was really relaxing. All the shops were very local to the riad and it was handy to come and drop off some shopping before going out again.

The riad itself is really homely and finished to a high spec, it was very comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery and plates as is the kitchen appliances; we had everything we needed. We stayed in the Nejma room on the first floor which was an ideal size for the two of us, although the curtain to the bathroom area felt slightly awkward as there is no door separating the bedroom from the bathroom (I think this may be the culture).
For salah, there are a lot of mosques in the old medina and we were able to find them easily and one is conveniently located about 2 minutes walk from the riad. The adhaan can be heard from the riad but it is not loud enough to wake you! A word of advice for Muslims wanting to pray in a mosque, do not go into the “mosque” (with a green gate) next to the riad as this is a tomb where people go and offer their prayers.

Overall, if I was to visit Essaouira again, I would definitely come and stay here again due to the convenience, hospitality, comfort and value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms on the second floor would be more ideal.

If you're looking for a clean and cosy place in Essaouira, that's it. I arrived at 9pm and was a little scared to walk into medina alone in dark remembering my previous experiences in Marrakech and Fes, I called them and requested someone to accompany me but my phone battery died. Luckily I had the medina map they sent me before. Essaouira medina is quite small and well designed, so it took me only five minutes to get to the riad from Bab Sbaa. Anni and Pascal were at the door welcoming me. They offered tea and we had a quick chat since they don't speak English and I have limited French. My room's cleanliness was well beyond Moroccan standards. There was hot water as much as I wanted. I woke up with seagulls singing. Breakfast consisted of fresh orange juice, homemade yoghurt, fresh fruits, croissant, bread, butter and jam which was more than you can eat. Internet access was a little slow in the rooms but ok. Owners and helping lady were very warm and always smiling.

Lovely riad with a great location right in the medina. The room was comfortable, and the riad has a lovely rooftop area with sun loungers.
Breakfast was lovely, with a different selection every day
and all freshly prepared in front of us.
Staff helpful, although very limited English.

We were very warmly welcomed by truly nice Anni and Pascal and felt comfortable right off the bat. Monika helped us find the place and navigate the city and was a very good host all-around.
The riad is greatly located, in a pleasant part of the medina, close to the promenade (the medina itself is rather laid-back, quite unlike Fes or Marrakech). The whole house is in a good shape, it even has a hamam, the rooms are clean and nice, albeit without much space where to keep stuff. The common area between rooms is great for perusing your Lonely Planet, surfing, or just being lazy. It was really easy to feel at home in this riad.
One thing to keep a note of is that bathrooms are strange (not separated from the bedroom or have doors like a wardrobe would), at least in some rooms. Still, keep in mind this is very common in Morocco.

Room Tip: We had a room on the higher floor and it had a door between the room and the bathroom.

The riad is located in the middle of the medina. We arrived at the Supratours drop-off and could walk to the riad. Warm welcome with tea and cookies. Room was good, but not really big. Breakfast was delicious.
