We stumbled on this restuarant by accident, while walking through the Medina in Essaouira. It's tucked away in a corner down one of the many streets. As best described, it is near the Western wall of the Medina close to a rampart.

While the restuarant seats only about 20 people, the atmosphere is cozy and open. The decor is traditional and the service was excellent. All food is prepared to order and is tastefuly presented. Mint tea is almost manditory and comes already sweetened. If you would like it unsweetened (Ido), simply ask and they will comply.

Having my camera around my neck, the waiter, offered to take several pictures of us (without the shakedown you get in Morocco when taking pictures).

I enjoyed prawns (about the size of a VW Beetle) and steamed vegetables. For dessert, I enjoyed a large crepe with chocolate drizzled over it. The cost for two meals amounted to about $20.US. By far the best foof and bang for your buck.

Small cozy restaurant. Overseeable menu with Morroccan classics. Tagine was great. The host was very friendly and enjoyable. it was possible to experience a range of freshly pressed juices - for example a lemon-orange-banana smoothie.

Great food and an incredible cost. The service was very good and friendly. One of the best places we ate in town, just wish we were there long enough to go again. Much better than the restaurants next door!

Warm, cosy ambiance and great food cooked by two ladies. We craved fish after many days of meat and chicken and we're not disappointed. The fish tagine was very nicely done and the grilled sole and prawns were fresh. You must also try the harira soup - the best we've had in Morocco.

We'd been in Essaouira for a week and found Bab Skala by chance without reading any reviews. It was our favorite meal. The chicken tajine and chicken couscous were outstanding. Tender chicken with sweet and savory sauces. The chicken couscous was topped with a delicious chutney. We didn't opt for the full 3 course meal - looking at the reviews I'm glad we decided so - but I'd highly recommend these dishes. Nicely decorated small restaurant with friendly service.
