Lovely seaside riad located just inside the medina. A charming riad with lots of character ! The views from our room were stunning. Rooms were basic, but had lots of charm. Our room was very open and airy, no AC. Didn't eat at the riad but heard it was excellent. The staff was very helpful especially the waitress at breakfast.

The Villa Maroc was one of our favourite hotels in Morocco. We loved all the little staircases and nooks and crannies. Our room (can't remember the number) was huge and tastefully decorated with Moroccan art. As many others have stated, the location couldn't be better. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely, but there were a lot of wasps. Perhaps management could consider some wasp traps for those times when they are bad.

We are happy to hear, that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Maroc.
It wasn't wasps but bees on the roof terrace and that only for a short period. We feel bad to kill bees and we do our best to keep them away.
We hope to see you back again.

We stayed at Villa Maroc as the second part of a two city holiday. Being a riad inside the medina, it was very different to our previous hotel, and felt like a real hidden treat. We were greeted very warmly on arrival and shown to our room at the very top of this characterful hotel. The thing I've learnt about medina living is that higher floors are better... you get the sunshine and the views, and suite 25 had plenty of both. The room wasn't huge but was perfectly comfortable (despite the very firm mattress), with a powerful shower, handy heater for the chilly evenings, and a great terrace (immediately adjacent to the terrace where all the guests have breakfast). Breakfast is continental style - yoghurt with museli, fruit, breads, galettes, jams, coffee - but the lovely staff will whip up an omelette or serve English breakfast tea if you prefer. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel as it felt a bit chilly in the dining area in the evenings, despite the fires, but the menu looked good, very authentic. The recently-opened Jardins de Maroc, offer a day by the pool, about 15 minutes drive from the hotel. It costs 250 DHS per person which includes transport and lunch. The bbq buffet lunch is plentiful and delicious, and the pool area itself calm, clean and surrounded by sun loungers. A very nice spot to spend the day but I think you need to eat a good lunch to justify the cost. Every member of staff at Villa Maroc, from the multi-lingual Swiss owner to receptionists and the waiters, was welcoming and helpful, making our stay very enjoyable. This is great base for exploring Essaouira and especially the medina; you're just 1/2 a minute from the nearest coffee bar and 2 minutes from the beach. Yes, the seagulls can be loud and there's some noise from the medina in the early evening, but for us neither of these caused any problems. Essaouira and Villa Maroc fully justify the 2 1/2 hour drive from Marrakech airport.

Room Tip: Our suite, 25, was ideal. Top of the riad, perfect view, and we could breakfast outside our own door...

Villa Maroc is a fabulous hotel in the heart to the medina of Essaouira. The best home-made breakfasts each morning on the roof watching the huge Atlantic waves roaring in with the fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. A beautiful old house that has been cleverly restored to make a very beautiful place to relax after the hustle and bustle of Essaouira medina life. The staff were lovely and very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Room 1/2 was beautiful and exceptionally quite and private. One to go for!

We recently stayed, two nights, with a group of six friends at Villa Maroc. The riad has a great location inside the medina and it is very easy to find. The breakfast, served on the roof terrace, was good, including fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee/tea, crepes, French bread, etc.. One day we got muesli, another fresh donuts. We had dinner one evening and it was good.
Villa Maroc is very atmospheric and the owner, Cornelia, very amiable and visible during our stay. She is Swiss and her husband, Moroccan.

The only negative aspects about the villa are: 1- none of the bedrooms in the building that we stayed at (we had four rooms) had air conditioning. It was warm inside the rooms until very late at night. It cooled down way past midnight. Our stay was in October. I don't want to even think about what it would be like in the summer months. We booked through "Experience it tour" company and we had specifically requested a riad with air con. 2- We could hear other dinners, at the riad, talking and laughing until very late. I had to resort to using ear plugs in order to fall asleep. My husband was awaken very early by the seagulls. One of the other couples commented on hearing local people chatting outside the riad, as their room faced the outside walls. The ac would have really helped.

There were fresh cookies, upon arrival, in one of the bedrooms, but not in the other three. I mentioned it to the owner, Cornelia and the following day, we all received the delicious cookies. Also, one of the rooms had fresh flowers, none of the other three rooms did.

It is not easy to run a hotel, restaurant, or place were you provide a payable service but definitely, consistency is important and people do look at details. Overall, we did have an enjoyable stay at Villa Maroc. It is a beautifl riad....Would I stay here again if we returned to beautiful Essaouira...no. Air con is very important for us!!!!

Room Tip: I you need air conditioning or are in need of a full night's sleep, this is not the place for yo...

Thank you for your review.
In Essaouira it's never hot, we have around 25° C in summer and the riads are build to keep them cool - we really don't need air condition.
Our philosophy is taking care about environments, serving organic food - it is our choice not having air condition and we are sure, that the big number of returning guest think like we do.

A very spesial Hotel. A little mysterious, a lot of rooms to experience, clean and for us in nr. 25, a wonerful view over the bay. And above all, a very kind hostess who everything day checked out with us that everything was ok. Lost of places to play cards and meet the others in our company.
The breakfast was ok, but some of us missed chees !! As for dinner, I would prefer to
go to a restaurant.

This place is great. The location is perfect and their jumble of buildings has so much character. The room was neither large nor elaborate but it was clean, the bed was comfortable and we loved our experience. We were with a group and had dinner in one of their dining areas and it was excellent.
