“Best riad of our 10 day trip in Morocco”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2014

Dar Liouba is a fantastic place. Located not far from the main axes of the medina, it's in a scenic and quiet corner of the medina. The interior has nice natural light, great accents on the white walls. Rooms were very clean, very comfortable, and bigger than most. A nice roofdeck for breakfast (it was too cold for us up there but would be great in warmer weather). The breakfast itself was solid but typical: Moroccan breads, jams, etc. Better coffee than usual though.

Very friendly staff, a nice collection of books to borrow and read. Essaouira's a great place to visit for a few days and Dar Liouba is an excellent choice. We'll be back.

We stayed for three nights in Dar Liouba and had a wonderful time. The Riad itself was magical, full of beautiful and quirky art, so there were plenty of lovely things to admire, while relaxing. The rooms were clean and comfortable and each had its own character, we had three rooms each one as lovely as the next. When we arrived after 11 at night, from Agadir Patricia had kindly arranged a light supper which was really tasty, our transfer from the airport was also arranged by Patricia and this went smoothly. We had a beautiful meal in the Dar Liouba on our last night, i would definitely reccomend this, as well as being very reasonably priced the food was delicious, we all gasped when Youseff brought out the Tagine !
The first morning we were there my husband didnt get up until 14:00 as he had been ill prior to travel, we had all had our breakfast which was excellent, lovely fresh juice, coffee, eggs and pastries, wonderful preserves and honey. I asked if he could have a coffee and within minutes
Kamar served him his full breakfast and recommended a local herbal remedy to help him recover. The Dar Liouba is in a great location to explore the many delights of Essaouira
and is a wonderful oasis of calm after the days activities. The roof top terrace was a delightful place for a sundowner. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dar Liouba and would return if i went back to Essaouira. So ten out of ten for Dar Liouba, Patricia and her wonderful team.

We stayed for three nights in Dar Liouba and had a fun time staying here and using it as a base to explore the historic coastal town. In a good central location Dar Liouba is beautifully designed with lots of lovely woodwork and fresh greenery, a spiralling main stair and large sunny terrace. Lots of care and attention has gone into the decor, furnishings and artwork making it both stylish and comfortable. The service was good (including pre-arrival information) and we were given useful information and advice throughout. And we really enjoyed spending time chatting with other travellers/holiday-makers - it's a friendly, sociable place.

It could be a superb riad but for a few things that did affect our overall experience - Our en-suite shower room in the Ciel room (which admittedly we had specifically requested) suffered from a bad case of rising bad smells - definitely recommend installing an anti-vac trap in there - and was pretty cool for having to have the en-suite window open. Our waste bin was full on arrival, the room was dusty and, although we appreciated the complimentary biscuits on arrival, the dirty dish remained on the hostess tray for our whole stay. The breakfast was ok, but a little lacking compared to other similarly priced riads, and the things we hoped to be hot, i.e. toast and hot water, were often not. Saying all that, the good things did outweigh the bad and we did have a lovely time.

Hello,

I have just read your review and was quite suprised by your comments. As the owner of this place I am of course very concerned by your bad experiences and please accept my apologies for that.

I am here every day and nobody came to me to report these types of difficulties. It is a pity that you haven't said a word to me while onsite : we would have solved the problem immediately.

To avoid any future problems of cleaning, I would be interested to know the dates of your stay and would appreciate to receive a message from you at darliouba@gmail.com about that (as you only use nickname it is difficult for me to know who you are).

Best wishes

We stayed for one night, coming from and going back to Marrakech. The location was great, a short walk from where the bus drops off, and the Riad emailed directions prior to our visit which was helpful.

Staff were friendly and recommended restaurants. We visited Elizir which was the best meal we had during our ten night stay.

They put pbreakfast early so we could make our early bus back to Marrakech.

My only negative is the room was a little chilly, and I do not think there was a heater in our room.

However small Essaouira is, this jewel of a hotel is very conveniently located to walk around the walled city and just a few blocks away from the Supratours bus station. Yet, despite being so central, it is in a quiet spot where you can relax and sleep quietly at night.

The staff received us very warmly and treated us very well. They really went out of their way to assist us and make us feel comfortable and well served. They oriented us, made excellent suggestions and helped us whenever we needed it.

We had our breakfast in the lovely terrace, a nice touch.

Free Wi-Fi in the whole property, safe boxes and excellent toiletries are among the amenities we found.

Our only regret is having not stayed here longer.

Room Tip: I don't think there's a bad room here, but the upper rooms get more breeze at night that fre...

Lovely hotel. Great roof top. Great staff, really fun and helpful. Only thing one thing you have to overcome is your in the heart of medina so be ready to be totally immeasured in the locality. Would really recommend.

We stayed there for three nights and really enjoyed our stay. The riad is beautifully decorated with lots of original features and a beautiful central staircase leading up to the rooms. The terrace was a lovely place to sit and eat breakfast or just relax. The staff were very friendly and helpful with local knowledge. Fatima suggested some nice place to eat and Patricia booked us in a lovely hammam. The location in the medina is very convenient for the souks and waterfront. It was also an easy walk from the bus station.
