We traveled to Essaouria from Marrakech via hired car. This Riad is in the walled Medina, which is a walking area only. We entered the Medina from the main parking lot, which is opposite from the water. Take the third right, then the first right, then the second right. Sounds daunting, but a porter quickly loaded our luggage onto a handcart from the taxi -- he knew where to go, but if this happens to you, be prepared with change for tipping him (perhaps 10-20 DH). You'll quickly learn your way around, even if you aren't a born Magellan.

The inside is wonderfully appointed in Euro-Moroccan chic. The proprietress is French, as is some of the staff. Natalie, in particular, was very helpful. She got us settled, oriented us to the Medina (pretty much a compass-direction grid), and she recommended restaurants and made reservations. One of us had a stomach virus, and she wrote down the name and address of the "pharmacie de garde" (on-duty pharmacy) in the area, where we got meds. The staff speaks English and is eager to make one's stay a delight.

You should know the rooms have fairly thin walls here, so sounds do carry. The Riad is a quiet area, generally, but the sound of kids' shouts and the crows of local roosters were something one has to accept. Another consideration is that the rooms are several flights of steep stairs away; hold onto handrails, as the quaint steps are individually crafted and may be a bit deceptive if you are not mindful of your footing. The upper terrace is equipped for sunbathing and for getting away from it all.

The Riad had great wifi and the staff offered a generous breakfast every day. This charming hotel is very centrally located and will delight, as long as you don't mind stairs and can appreciate a bit of neighborhood sounds.

I travelled to Essaouira with my girlfriend, we got to the central bus station and it was a total caos getting to the city center, once there a man asked us what were we looking for, so we told him the street where Dar Liouba is and he took us there, for free. Entering this Dar was like getting into a different world, the atmosphere was perfect. They, of course, offered us tea and took us afterwards to our room.

The room was just exactly how the photos showed, a bit small, but very comfortable. Very clean room and bathroom. When having a shower all the water will go out and leave all the bathroom's floor wet. Perfect wifi connection at the room.

In the morning we had breakfast at the roof of the dar, with some perfect views of Essaouira. It had a great variety.

I would really recommend this dar to everybody. It's not specially cheap, but a totally correct quality-price relation.

Our stay at Dar Liouba has been excellent. The owners are such nice people and they do their best to fulfill al your wishes. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with tea and information about the city. Our room was spacious, very clean, light and had a nice bed. The lobby is also decorated beautifully and feels very "homesy". Breakfast can be served downstairs or on the rooftop terace and is super tasty, fresh and different everyday. Furthermore, the location of the riad is perfect: very close to the restaurants and shops of Essaouira, but far enough to be very quiet. So to summarize: when you are in Essaouira, make sure to stay at Dar Liouba. You will not get a better deal, for sure!

Location: Perfectly centred in the medina, it's a good compromise between being close to the beach (5 minute walk if you take the right route) and the 2 main streets in Essaouira. The Riad is situated perfectly so that it feels cut off from the noise and hub bub of the medina, yet not enough so that you feel isolated.

Service: The service at Dar Liouba is brilliant. Patricia (the owner of Dar Liouba) is on hand every morning with a warm smile. She sits down with you and tells you some places to go (though I preferred finding other places on tripadvisor) and more importantly where not to go. The staff are wonderful; friendly, warm and some are crazy fun (Youssef the chef). The rooms are all beautifully cleaned for you everyday and breakfast is served in the beautiful terrace by the tireless and friendly workers.

Accommodation: We stayed in the ocean room, which was light, airy and tastefully decorated. It had an ensuite, like all the rooms I believe, and had a welcoming bottle of water which was a great touch (not that it's as humid as Marrakesh). We preferred to pay a bit extra for a room with a window. The building itself is a beautiful spiral leading up to the panaromic terrace. At the base is the splendid reception area as seen in the photos. It's a great building.

I cannot reccomend this accommodation enough. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Dar Liouba is conveniently located near the center of the Medina. It is a wonderful cozy place to escape to pace of the medina. The owners work incredibly hard to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The lobby is cozy. And, the food is amazing thanks to Chef Youssef and the kitchen staff.
