I visited Riad Baoussala for my friends wedding in June 2012, and wow, what a wedding! The Riad is simply stunning. The swimming pool area is beautiful, with hammocks and sofa's to relax in, and the wonderful and immaculate surrounding gardens are picturesque. The Riad it's self is brilliant, I defiantely had 'Riad Envy'!! The rooms are large and beautifully decorated in a modern Moroccan style. The courtyard with open staircase to the roof terrace was gorgeous at sunset, and the wind died down for the evening meal upstairs under the stars.

All in all a fantastic place to get married, I only wish I had been able to stay there!

I stayed here with my girlfriend from the 25th-27th May 2012 and it was fantastic. The staff are all incredibly friendly and the food was wonderful. While the dirt track leading up to it is hardly ideal Leah and Dominique have a deal with taxi drivers and so it is hardly a problem.

The food they serve is incredible and the rooms themselves beautiful. Just wish we had more time here!

We had a wonderful stay at Baoussala. A pity that we could only stay for just 1 night. I can reccomend to stay here a couple of days, relax, enjoy the swimmung pool, the good food, the excellent rooms, the nice warm fireplace at night.
Dominique, Leah and the rest of the the staff is very friendly and helpful, from the very first email contact until even a few week after our stay when we had some trouble to reach the car rental agency in Essaouira.

Very, very hard to fault this wonderful retreat. Very warm welcome upon arrival, which was needed after driving from Marrakech and bumping up the 3km track from the main road. Please don't be put off by the rubbish as you turn off the main road onto the track to Baoussala, as the riad and the surrounding areas are immaculate.

The drive up to Baoussala is hard work, especially if you are in the smallest car imaginable (as we were), however it's perfectly doable without a 4x4 but be prepared to take it slowly. In case you have, as I did, a desperate requirement for a mars bar or a bag of crisps there's a small shop about 10 minutes walk from the riad - there is no need to head back down to the main road.

The pain of driving up the track is more than compensated for when you realise how peaceful Baoussala is. Whilst the predominant sound is bird song you can also hear the call to prayer from the surrounding mosques which is wonderful. This is a fantastic contrast with the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.

Our room (the red room) was lovely although be warned that it can get quite chilly at night so it might be worth lighting the fire. Plenty of storage space for clothes and a lovely big shower room, although the plumbing can be a little erratic but I would expect nothing less from somewhere so remote.

The riad offers a swimming pool (unheated but straight off the pages of Elle Decoration), hammam, pool terrace for lunch and lovely gardens. It is beautifully maintained and you could quite easily spend a few days chilling out at Baoussala and doing nothing else. There is also a large dining/lounge area, roof terrace and kitchen that some guests ate in. The entire place is stunningly furnished and will really appeal to fans of great interior design. Baoussala has a very strong identity and it's lovely to stay somewhere that doesn't follow the homeginised approach of some many boutique hotels.

The food was excellent and very affordable - our entire stay came to £400 for 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and we had wine every evening and lunch on arrival. It's a set 3 course meal in the evening whilst the lunch menu offers salads, omlettes etc. The food takes its main influence from Morocco although it's clear that there's some French creeping in to. No complaints from me, I really enjoyed every meal especially the chicken and lemon tagine.

The staff were all extremely friendly and Dominique and Leah are fantastic hosts whom both speak very good, fluent English. Many of the staff are also bilingual.

The areas surrounding Baoussala is definitely worth exploring. Essaouira receives plenty of press coverage and deservedly so, however do take the opportunity to head South to explore some of the beaches and villages which offer a great insight into Moroccan life.

A wonderful stay and I hope to be able to return.

Thank you.

We really really enjoyed our stay here. The whole experience was so relaxing we really felt at home.

The food was awesome, the room very comfortable, the common areas great, and the location fantastic. Don't be fooled, this place is in the countryside, but its not that far into town if you have a car. If you have been medina hopping around Morocco this will be a welcome retreat.

We highly recommend you spend a few days to escape to this amazing place to relax, eat, and laugh. Many thanks to the amazing staff. Dominique is a cool lady who is very passionate about her business and her life in Morocco.

We had an amazing 4 night stay. Dominique and Leah made us feel truly welcome and we loved the laid back attitude. The food was lovely, simple and authentic. Lighting the fire in the room at night was a lovely routine and truly unique.

We hope to return with our children next time.

quiet, relaxing, wonderful food and hospitality. I travelled in mid February and the weather was fantastic (no matter what your weather guide says about the temperature you will need sun screen!) don't be put off by suggestions the wind is a problem, Baoussala is sheltered. All the rooms beautifully decorated, the fire in my room at night was a real joy for a city dweller like me as was walking in the surrounding countryside. Thanks to Leah for a fantastic massage (do take advantage of the hammam as well) and the loan of her dog. Thanks to Dominique for her hospitality, lifts into town and the loan of her cats. Thanks to all the staff for their attention and charm, don't hesitate - go, I really hope I get to go back some day.
