When you enter this beautiful riad you are greeted by the very friendly local staff serving you fresh mint tea in the lobby area beside the internal fountain, seated on traditional Moroccan throws and pillows. The decor of the ground floor is stunning and traditional, even more beautiful than the pictures.
Each room has a theme and is decorated with beautiful taste. The roof top terrace is the perfect place to enjoy your breakfast which is brought up for you and served with a smile.
The location is ideal with lots of small artist studios around, quaint local restaurants, street markets and of course the famous fish market of Essaouira.
We will return to Essaouira and we will definitely stay here again.

We had a fantastic stay in this tranquil, beautiful Riad. We enjoyed our breakfast on the rooftop terrace with views of the ocean. Located in the heart of the Medina, we were a stone's throw from the beach and main square. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We would thoroughly recommend both Essaouira and the Riad al Zahia.

The riad is on a little back street in the old city. We would have easily walked past it if someone wasn't there to show us the way. Very non-descript from the outside. But once we came in, we were very impressed with the riad. The sitting rooms were uniquely docorated and inviting. Check in was a breeze and we were shown our room. Caveat to anyone with trouble walking up stairs..... we were 3 flights up a sprialing staircase.

Each room is decorated differently; ours was of a nauthical theme with blues and greens. Lots of nice touches in the room. ( I got to explore several others as well, and each was lovely in its own way). We slept well. The shower was nice too.

The staff was very friendly and made some excellent recommendations to us for dinner, or even where to buy a bottle of wine. ( you will never find this on your own without directions; and its one of the busiest places in town!!!) The riad also provides its guest with Free wi-fi which was greatly appreciated.

Breakfast were fairly simple, but fresh and we ate on the roof terrace, which provides a beautiful view of the city. Over all, it was a very nice stay and a good value for the money.

We only spent two nights here, but we could have happily stayed longer.
The Ryad is very quite and romantic and in a good area of the medina.
The upstair terrace was perfect for pre dinner drinks and the views were lovely.
It was a great break from the heat of Marrakech, being right on the Sea.
The staff were were great and spoke English.
I would highly reccomend a break an Essaouria break and in this Ryad in particular.

This is the coziest place I´ve ever been. you feel like at home and the atmosphere is so relaxed and clean. The location of the Riad is unbeatable inside the medina and in a super quiet street. The lounge is so comfy and the terrace just has amazing views. I think it´s perfect for a romantic trip or to share a good time with your friends.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The suite is amazing to share with friends

We only stayed for one night - but sorely wish we had stayed for longer! We had come from Marrakech and were generally more impressed with Essaouira but Riad Al Zahia vastly outshone the riad we stayed at in Marrakech. It was extremely easy to find from the directions on teh website - so we independantly made our way on foot through the Medina, without the need for a porter. We found the staff friendly and helpful and they assisted us with our onward transport, and as our departure was before breakfast - they prepared a tray with coffee, cakes and yoghurts to be left for us which set us up for the day. All the rooms communal and sleeping accommodation were beautifully decorated, full of character, yet calming and conducive to relaxation. Even the Iman was musical and heartening with his Call To Prayer, compared to Marrakech! If you're going to Essaouira, which I would recommend over Marrakech - you must stay at Riad Al Zahia!
