We travelled to Ess. from M'kech via Supratours and stayed for 10 days in April. The communication before we arrived via e-mail was always good and fast. We secured the apt. just below the terrace which was like a large bedsit with a cooking and eating/sitting area with the bed and bathroom in a good large light and airy area. We wanted self catering facilities so we could buy local fish and F&V to experiement ourselves when we wanted to.

The riad is tastefully decorated with traditional Moroccan style and is very comfortable and relaxed. The Spanish owner was there when we arrived and welcomed us and was happy to help with any information we needed.

Breakfasts were served on the top terrace (when the wind allowed), if not then the area closed in on the top gave a great view of the sea - cafe style. Substantial varied breakfasts served with lots of strong real coffee. Meals were available if required. We were able to experience a Riad meal which we were very happy with. Extremely tasty and I was able to talk to the lady chef who prepared it which made it a much more personal meal. We tried to eat it on the terrace but it was a tad cold and windy. There was so much food, it made another two meals for us and was even better 2nd time round ! Accommodation was cleaned daily and all staff were friendly and helpful. On leaving the staff organised a trolley man to transport our luggage to the bus station. All in all, a perfectly placed riad, at a good price, with enough going on nearby to keep us occupied.

I was concerned that the riad asked for credit card details but I was assured that this was only for 'holding' the room and that we could pay in cash on leaving. This worked well for us.

I am very happy to recommend this riad - the stairs to the top kept me fit !

Room Tip: When the doors to the other rooms were open, they all looked great, our apt. just below the terrace...

We stayed in this beautifully decorated Riad, The real Moroccan building structures of old. It is a must, as the owners really put in a lot of efforts into the smallest of details. From making sure you have a chocolat to a bottle of water, to ensuring that you are never have to ask for anything. They did not ask for no documents, no advance payment, no hustle. We were treated so well. We had a wonderful time in Essaouira knowing that our hotel was a jewel as well as this city. We highly recommend this hotel. The price is very good for the all the goodies you get, Clemente, the son s owner was a real gentleman and the staff curteous and helpfull, What can add, this makes Morocco a wonderful place to visit.

Room Tip: rooms at the the very top of the building, There are no elevators.

If you get here after staying at another riad, you will find that this is more of a hotel or B&B place. Notwithstanding, is really nice, well kept and in a nice and secure place, close to really nice restaurants.

The owners were very nice to us when we had to interact, and by chance we got an upgrade to one of the suites that I guess the person who reserved it didn’t want since it is on the 4 or 5th floor and there is no elevator… and our original room was in the 2nd floor =D

Daily breakfast was nice, fulfilling and fresh… nothing incredible but what a breakfast should be, it was served on the terrace.

We stayed with our 2 children in the Zuleica Suite and it is a great room for a family (nice bathroom by the way...). Breakfast on the roof is a treat and the ladies serve nice things like pancakes, fresh orange juice, bread etcetera
We also had a meal downstairs the day we arrived and we loved it. Tajine au poulet..mmm. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We strongly recommend this stylish Riad!

Room Tip: Zuleica Suite is nice for a family with kids, because you have a second bedroom divided by a door.

This riad is very well decorated, clean and in an excellent location in a nice and quiet side street, whilst being close enough to good restaurants and the beach.
But there were downsides; we didn't feel completely welcome, all the staff were very pleasant when spoken to but it felt like a generic hotel, they were just there to do their job. We didn't receive any introduction welcome like in some riads (with mint tea, introduction to area etc) and one night we stayed for dinner and the service we received was rushed and awkward, we just did not feel like they wanted us there. Not once were we asked how our meal was and the person seemed more interested in talking to his friends outside then serving his guests. if we wanted a drink we had to find someone to ask them and when we found them we had the impression it was a chore.
The breakfast was lovely each day on the roof terrace but it was the same thing each morning, in another riad we stayed in they varied it each day which was really nice.
These issues were a big disappointment for us because if they were addressed it would receive top marks.

Room Tip: We upgraded our room to the zahia suite which I would recommend as our first room 'Leila' ha...

We stayed at Riad Al Zahia with our 5 kids based on a recommendation from a friend. It was an excellent choice, centrally located in the medina. Not too expensive and a terrific roof deck for breakfast…you can also catch the sunset from up there!
