We were very impressed with this gorgeous place, overall. The dramatic entrance into a courtyard of palm trees looks very impressive at night when lit in colors. The staff is friendly and helpful (though most of them don't speak English well) and the breakfast spread is delicious and never-ending (try the different jams). The pool deck is also a wonderful space to lounge and relax. Our tapas in the bar were also delicious. Although we didn't eat at the restaurant, a local chef from Lyon told us it's her favorite restaurant in town.

The bedrooms are gorgeous but the only windows face the courtyard -- at least in the regular rooms. As a result they are a little dark. Since breakfast is served in the courtyard I worried it would be loud in the morning, with the sound of plates and diners echoing, but it was surprisingly quiet. However, one night some rude guests stayed up late in the courtyard yelling and laughing and they caused quite a noise. That was the only noise problem in our six days here.

However, as it is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group, we expected a little bit more attention to detail. No mini fridge in the rooms, for example. One hook and one towel bar per bathroom makes it hard for 2 people to share. No wash cloths. And they charge for water without any notification. That seemed cheap since we can't drink the water.

But the friendly staff and relaxing experience in such a gorgeous property make this a super fine place to spend vacation.

One more thing: we chose this hotel because it's cat-free, unlike many Riads where cats come and go. One member of our party is allergic so if you have that issue this is definitely allergy free!

Location at edge of Medina also provides easy access.

Room Tip: Ask if you are facing interior courtyard or have windows facing outside

"Thank you for your message. I'm sorry that you did not had enough towels in your bathroom . i hope you pointed out and that our team responded quickly and well.
Also sorry that some customers did not respect the usual quiet patio in the evening. We intervened several times but it was difficult. "
I hope to see you soon among us in order to forget these little annoyances. "

The Heure Bleue is a real oasis on the edge of the medina in Essaouira where the old town is a World Heritage Site. The staff welcome you with great warmth and nothing is too much trouble. The courtyard has a rare tranquility which belies the hotels proximity to the bustling thoroughfare outside.

If possible book a suite where the room is comfortable and where you have a good size ensuite bathroom with both a bath and shower. The restaurant has a tremendous range of authentic Morocco food and a good wine list with local wines featuring in good measure.

Try and obtain the services of local guide Rashida who will show you the fascinating features of the old town and it's remarkable history. Also the hamamm spa is a must do.

Room Tip: Aim for a suite if possible.

I had high expectations going in to our stay here based on the fact that it's a Relais & Chateau property and the website, description etc was awesome. It turned out to be good, not great. We stayed at the Palais Heure Bleue for two nights traveling as a family (2 adults, 2 kids). The hotel was well maintained, clean, and had comfortable furnishings. It's a good location right at the edge of the medina and a quick walk to the beach. We were warmly welcomed, served complimentary juice and snacks while we relaxed in the spacious inner courtyard (our rooms were being prepared). We had two rooms next to each other which they offered to set up as we wished (twin beds or double). The breakfast buffet is served daily in the inner courtyard and it was a nice selection with good food. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant for dinner so I can't comment on that. We did eat lunch at the poolside terrace one day which was good but expensive and note that people reserve tables for lunch - we were told we were "lucky" with our table as the others were all reserved. There is a game room with billiards and board games which our kids enjoyed. We did experience a few issues - the first night we attempted to order two easy pasta dishes from room service for the kids. The food never arrived; I called after an hour and they apologized and promised it right away. They arrived soon after with one dish, not two. They didn't charge us since it was quite messed up but by that time it was very late. Our other issue was at check out - we had a bar and dinner charge on our bill that was not ours. Again, resolved without issue but still took some time. All in all, it worked out and the accommodations were nice but I can't say it was spectacular.

We were only supposed to stay for a couple of nights before heading on to Casablanca but the hotel was so nice we ended up staying longer. I was a little sceptical when we arrived after driving from Marrakeh. From the outside it doesn't look like much but don't let appearances fool you. I was stunned by how beautiful the hotel was from the inside. The courtyard is just amazing - an excellent buffet breakfast, and dinner are both served here. We also had a session at the spa, which was excellent. The suite we stayed in was great too. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We 3 friends loved our 3 night stay at L'Heure Bleu; the staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive. After a long and tiring trip when we arrived on a busy night, the restaurant was full but they served us in the bar which was brilliant. Our junior suite was fantastic and the little curtained window seat a joy!
The breakfast was great and our 2nd dinner in the restaurant very pleasant. We loved the building, the courtyard, the pool area and the location of this hotel and it made our final days in Morocco, when we were tired and a bit over early morning road trips, very comfortable indeed. Thank you to the staff who looked after us so well.

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for a junior suite - bathroom with a bath and a shower room, on the top floo...

We spent one week in this hotel. It is literally just past the gateway known as the 'Bab Marrachech'. We were dropped off by our driver and therefore did not need any of the porters who wait by the gateway to carry your luggage in their quaint little carts. After a long day of travel, we arrived at the hotel about 11 30 pm. Once inside, there was a warm welcome from the receptionist, who took us to our junior suite- room 29. It was a spacious room with a walk in shower, two sinks and a bath. There was separate toilet with a window. Plenty of towels and bath products were provided. The next day, we found the rooftop swimming pool where we could enjoy wonderful views of Essaouira. During our stay of one week, we found all the staff to be helpful, polite and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. I particularly loved the homemade yoghurt and jams , as well as the delicious bread. We had a Hamamn treatment which I would recommend. With regard to the restaurant, we ate there once. It was a five course dinner including wine at a set price. It was fine, but too much to have every night so we found elsewhere at lunchtime, which of course you are free to do.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get a suite. Room 29 was good for us.

Just spent 6 nights at l'heure bleue. It's right at the edge of the car free Medina so taxi can drop you almost at the door, great if you have luggage. Greeted with calm smile, freshly squeezed orange juice, water and large selection of cakes which just set the tone of our holiday:relaxed. Check in done for us while we sipped and soaked up courtyard. Lovely.
Our room was small but spotless and classy. We were on the first floor and woke most mornings at 8h30 or 9h to the sound of the orange juice squeezer whizzing away...not a wake up call we minded at all. Breakfast was a daily treat. Full of fresh fruit. Eggs anyway you wanted them. Fresh pancakes. Good cappuccino, and deliciously cheeky cakes. We always spent a good hour chilling, sipping, nibbling and reading the papers in the quite courtyard. The swimming pool on the roof is indeed heated and the rooftop terrace while windy does have its suntrap nooks. Again a fabulous space to chill out and get a good view of the medina's roof tops. All staff were super charming. Helpful and yet discreet, one never feels watched or uncomfortable and yet we never had to wait for anything. It's worth having a drink in the english lounge too if the evening is chill or indeed in the courtyard. We loved that each of our beer's came with a complementary selection of three tapas and a dish of homemade crisps. Essaouira is a lovely spot for a holiday. Great great beach to walk, huge and peaceful once you shake off those offering camel rides, they do recognise you after a day or that...
