In my opinion Auberge Tangaro is way too expensive for what they offer – especially if you compare it to other accommodations in Morocco. Rooms are nice but bathrooms could be modernized. It is pretty laid back (nice atmosphere with lots of candles lit in the evening) but if you don’t have a car you’ll be stuck as beaches and Essaouira are relatively far away.
It is nice to have dinner in a room with lots of candles and an open fire – unless any attention is drawn to the fire that it isn’t burning properly and you end up sitting in a room full of smoke (and a dog begging for food). Unfortunately the food wasn’t outstanding at all – especially as our grilled fish was served pretty raw. Nothing that would have justified 180 Dh per person (drinks not included – here I should add that 25Dh for a bottle of water is almost an extortionate price; we were staying in 10 different accommodations during our Morocco trip and usually 1 bottle of water cost between 6 and 10 Dh). We wouldn’t recommend this hotel to our friends and won’t come back.More
