This is a lovely riad with nicely decorated rooms, a very comfy bed, tasty breakfasts and extremely helpful and welcoming staff and owner, for whom nothing was too much trouble.

As well as arranging for a baggiste to meet us on our arrival by bus from Marrakech (which saved us hassle/negotiarion), Jean Gabriel organised for us to get good value argan oil to take home (much cheaper than what we saw in the shops) and even walked us to the pick up point on departure day to make sure the car arrived on time to bring us to the airport.

There are a number of places in the riad to hang out to read a book, enjoy a glass of wine, or chat to other guests - a cosy library, a rooftop lounging area and a large room with sofas and a table at which dinner may be served. This made it easy to meet and chat to other guests if we wanted to - meeting new people when on holiday is something we both enjoy.

In contast to one of the reviews below we found the fire was lit every evening - if it had not been I'm sure one of the staff would have lit it for us on request.

I would thoroughly recommend this riad to anyone visiting Essaouira.

We stayed in the month of October. Absolutely unique ! There is a big patio as you open the door, a very well furnished library that Jean-Gabrielle collected over the years. There is a small garden with a peaceful and serene atmpsphere with two turtless. Jean-Gabrielle and the whole staff, especially Hayat, were very welcoming. We felt at home. The rooms are spacious and decorated tastefully. All over the ryad there are amazing art pieces. The food is excellent and the breakfast delicious.

Very poor breakfast (cook on holiday), only a fire when owner had friends there, 1970's hippy styling, and charged extra for paying with plastic, even though specifically asked if it would be the same as paying by cash (only found out, too late, that charged an extra 20 Euros)

We have stayed at Riad Watier three times this year - and each time has been better than the last. My wife and I have a young daughter (7 months) and we have stayed here with both my mother and her mother, and all of us have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The owner, Jean-Gabriel, has assembled a great team in a lovely Riad. Located in the heart of the Medina, it serves both as a great base to explore the city and a magical retreat where you can relax and enjoy comfortable Riad life.

Each time we have stayed here Jean-Gabriel and his staff have helped us with dinner reservations and they have been excellent. Additionally, they breakfast they serve at the Riad is wonderful, and eating on their rooftop terrace is also a treat.

Our group has stayed in four different rooms, including one of the two story double rooms with twin beds on the second floor. No complaints at all from any of the rooms - they are all equally luxurious and well appointed. You will feel like you are staying in a 5-star resort.

As you can tell, we have thoroughly enjoyed all our stays at Riad Watier and plan to return soon!

We stayed for 4 nights in Riad Watier in August. The kids loved the room and we all felt very much at home. I took lots of photo's as the Riad is very pretty. JG and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming and JG even drove us for 30mins to a local nature reserve where we walked down to the beach and back to the Riad along the beach. We enjoyed the banter with JG; with our son arguing about football and with our daughter teasing her about her need for perfect hair!
Essaouira was fascinating although somewhat smelly when we were there - the drains were being emptied outside our appartmnent and the smell as we walked outside the Riad was foul. Inside was a complete haven - beauty and tranquility.

We returned yesterday from staying at the Riad for two weeks. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable and welcoming place. Jean Gabriel and his staff are all charming and helpful and felt like family by the end of our stay.
Our room was luxurious and the bed was the most comfortable I've slept in.
The only downside is that the hotel is approached through a covered over alleyway which seems rather seedy and is off putting especially if you arrive after dark. It is quite safe however and you get used to it.

Riad Watier reflects Essaouira - cosmopolitan and laid back. JG and his staff are helpful and the service was attentive. The riad is bigger than we expected and our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Essaouira is a fun town and when we return, we will definitely stay at Riad Watier again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Watier suite and it's big, well-decorated room.
