My wife and I loved every part of our journey through Morocco, but Essaouira was very special to us since we both love seaside living. Dar L’Oussia is a lovely riad located in the Essaouira Medina; it is also a short walk to the pier and the beach.

When we first arrived at the riad, we were welcomed warmly with mint tea and cookies. Since our room was on the third level, we obtained our room key and walked up to the room; a very strong and gracious porter brought our bags to our room! Our room was very spacious with lots of sunshine coming through the windows and a comfortable sitting area. The bed was decorated with flower petals and wood comprised a lot of the otherwise bright room’s decor. The bathroom was very clean and had a separate water closet. The shower stall was very spacious as was the sink area. This was a very comfortable room that maintained the traditional Moroccan “feel” with a touch of the seaside.

One of the good things about being on the third level (other than the exercise!) was that we only had one level to climb to reach the terrace level where breakfast was served. We were fortunate to have excellent weather while we were in Essaouira and breakfast was divine. I had flatbread with a little honey, butter and cheese, a bit of an onion tart and melon for breakfast. I also enjoyed my mint tea; I grew addicted to mint tea while we were in Morocco!

On our second night, we were treated to a performance my Gnawan Musicians who sang and danced, and invited us and other guests to join in. One member played the Guembri or Sintir which is similar to an electric bass. The skin on the Guembri is made from camel and the string is made from goat. The other two members played the Qarkabeb which are Moroccan style castanets. The performance was excellent and the musicians genuinely seems to enjoy themselves. In addition to the performance, we were provided with what was called a “light meal.” I found it to be bountiful! It was a tapas plate that included fried calamari rings, tomato salad, vegetable kebab, beef kefta, potato croquettes and chicken pastilla; note that this was provided per person. Everything was delicious, but the highlight was definitely the chicken pastilla, a sweet and savory pastry stuff with perfectly seasoned chicken and topped with sugar and cinnamon.

To a person, the staff at Dar L’Oussia were extremely helpful during our stay. This riad was spotlessly clean and we very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely riad near the ocean.

We were attended by a young chap with questionable manners upon arrival but I was so enchanted by Essaouira that I decided to just ignore him. The room we had was tastefully designed and spacious, so that made up for the negative energy at the reception. The lady at the breakfast was so kind and smiling and she served us probably the best Moroccan crèpes we've had all through the places we stayed in Morocco. The view from the terrace where breakfast is served is superb. Wifi connection is inconsistent but we didn't need it much so this is unimportant. The hotel is so conveniently located.

The staff of this hotel is really friendly and helpful, when you have any question you can go to the nice lady at the income and she will give you a brief explanation of what you need to do. Also the Meals are great and delicious, if you have no idea what to eat, just ask the waiter, he will recommend the best meal for your taste on the menu (and that doesn't mean the most expensive meal on the menu), The rooms are absolutely amazing, everything is nice and clean. Also the scrub felt super nice! Really loved staying here, also breakfast with an awesome sea view at the top of the hotel is an awesome experience. People, you should really go to this hotel, you won't regret it.

Also, there is a legendary guy who is known by the name Usef from America (he went to America for 10 years and seems people just kept calling him like that), if you meat this guy, you are going to have a nice treat, be nice to him and he will be very nice to you, he will give you the best recommendations to look for in essaouira for free, if you want you can enjoy a camel ride with in the evening and he makes the arrangements for a cheap price, and if you want to grab safe dinner, this guy know where to bring you, also if you want to buy great things, for a cheap price without people going after you from the streets, this guy is the best guide you can find, he will help you find the best of essaouira, if you find this guy you are luckey!

We were assigned a delightfully spacious room with a lounge area and excellent bathroom facilities. Beautifully furnished and draped. The windows opened out onto the inner courtyard. Very nice indeed. Wifi was good.

The hotel in general is very clean and well set up. Breakfast is served on the uncovered roof though where the meal is served is covered which is good as plenty of seagulls were flying about. The view is great looking out over Essaouira and the bay. It is windy though and we needed a jacket for the chill. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. I had the delicious lamb tajine one evening.

The hotel does not have a lift which is fine as the porters take care of the luggage but the walk up several flights of stairs for breakfast could be an issue for some.

The hotel is well located for easy access to the town.

Staff were excellent.

Room Tip: Our room was delightful. Unfortunately I do not know the number but it was located up on the first...

This Riad-style hotel is within the walls of the town of Essaouira. The location is really good with easy access to the town and sights and also to the beach, prom and harbour, which is full of fishing vessels. As is typical with Riads, the room look our onto a bright central courtyard. There is a rooftop area with loungers and chairs and with views of the sea. Breakfast is served in this area. It can be a little windy here at times. Also it is necessary to climb a spiral staircase with rope handrail to reach this rooftop area (but worth it!). The staff were helpful, going out of their way to re-arrange the dining room table to accommodate our group. I would say that Essaouira is well worth a visit and, if visiting, this would be a very good choice of hotel. (Stayed as part of a Saga tour)

Location was perfect right inside the walls - large room with plenty of closets - breakfast was served on the upper terrace with a breath taking view of the ocean. We ate both nights at the in-house restaurant and it was superb. The entire staff was very helpful

This is a wonderful seaside town and absolutely worth visiting. I was sorry not to stay for more than the three days that we were on-site. There is a small, manageable shopping area and several terrific seafood restaurants. We loved this hotel, and the views from the roof dining area were magnificent. Our room was huge – and gorgeous.
