I can't seem to find the Maison du Vent hotel on the list. It is a small riad run by an Italian couple. Nice, clean rooms with plenty of hot water, good continental breakfast included. It is in the medina but not centrally located. I highly recommend it.
The stairs are a bit steep so this might be a problem for people with limited mobility.

Maison Du Vent provided a good base from which to visit Essaouria, the rooms are pleasant and service ok. BUT, a watch was stolen from bags in our room which was padlocked and only accessible by staff. In addition, what appeared to be a theft by someone working there did not concern the manager when we reported it, he seemed more shocked that we expected him to even look into it! This hasn't been reported before on Tripadvisor so hopefully was a one off but extra vigilance would be advised.

Based on previous reviews, we decided to book a 2-night stay at Maison du Vent, Essaouira. We stayed in suite 1 (1st floor) for 60 euros/night, including breakfast. The decoration was good, staff was nice and breakfast was ok. Besides, you can access internet for free. However, the suite itself was terribly noisy, with 2 windows leading to a noisy street that offered no protection whatsoever against sounds coming from outside. Another major problem was the complete lack of privacy, since there is an open pannel above the door through which you can see (and be seen from) the stairs as well as hear everything (I mean EVERYTHING) that happens inside the house, including conversations whispered in other rooms. So, if you can sleep with noise and don't consider privacy an important issue, this might be a good choice...

Warm welcome from Alberto and his team, very helpful with local information if you speak a mixture of French, Italian and English. Everything as described on website, an oasis of tranquillity, and superb value at 0 euros for a suite including breakfast. Very handy for port, souks, beach and Supratours bus. I highly recommend it.

This newly opened (2006) riad in the Essaouira Medina was the accommodation highlight of our 2 weeks in Morocco. The suite we stayed in was beautifully decorated, as was the central courtyard. The 4 year restoration of the building must have been a labor of love which is reflected in the attention to detail lavished on the riad by its Italian owners. Alberto was a genial host. Breakfast was delightful, served at the big dining table in an alcove off the central courtyard (it was winter). In warmer weather it would be a pleasure to have breakfast on the rooftop terrace, overlooking the old city. We made direct contact with the owners by email, and our reservation was efficiently handled. The riad is located in a quiet back street of the medina, not far from one of the smaller gates into the walled city. We found Maison du Vent with the assistance of a local man, but it is probably best to call the owners when you arrive and have them guide you to the riad.
