“Excellent guesthouse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

We stayed here for two nights and had a great stay. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and had everything you could need. The guesthouse is walking distance from everything in town and felt very safe. The owners and staff were very helpful; they happily made reservations for us at local restaurants and on a local day trip. The breakfast was delicious. We couldn't fault this place and would definitely stay here again.

Our group of six had two wonderful nights at the very comfortable, beautifully kept and extremely welcoming Cornerstone Guesthouse. The Bassingthwaite's were great hosts. We would definitely stay again - highly recommended.

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Very clean and nice room. Good breakfast. Safe. Good parking. Walking distance from everything. Nothing to dislike.
A perfect place to stay in Swakopmund - we would definitely stay there again.

Third stay in two years at this apartment owned and managed by Cornerstone Guesthouse.

There wasn't much to complain about the decor the first two times, but the recent refit is extremely well done and the recent addition of free wifi was much appreciated. After the sand of Sossusvlei, or the dust of Etosha, it always feels nice to be able to unwind here for a couple of days. Very spacious and airy feel to it. Lovely new washing machine. Bed linen incredibly soft. DSTV channels for people who need them. Kitchen is well equipped.

The views from the terrace are lovely, shops and supermarkets within a few minutes walk, restaurants nearby. Nice private secure double lockup garage within the property.

For the record, the apartment smells absolutely lovely! And we will absolutely be staying there again next year.

[People seem to forget that they're still in the desert at Swakopmund . Lawns and bulging flowerbeds in Africa are a European vice. To maintain this pretence of lush vegetation, there is "grey water" lawn irrigation all over swakopmund in almost all green public spaces at various times of day. Personally, I think it's rather a fine idea that bathwater is sprinkled on lawns, and precious treated drinking water isn't being wasted on lawns. It barely smells, certainly isnt unpleasant, is doing a really good job, and I suspect that people moaning about it are the same delicate treasures you see retching in the carpark at Cape Cross seal colony]

This is an excellent guesthouse with a great location in Swakopmund. I always enjoy staying there on safaris. The rooms are spacious and has everything that you need. The breakfast is really good. This is a very popular guesthouse so book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Looking forward to our return to Cornerstone.

One reviewer mentioned the stink which nearly put us off staying at An Der Mole - thank goodness we took Peter's (the owner) advice and stayed for 3 nights and had no smell whatsoever. Originally we wanted to book the Atlantik Sicht apartment but it was full (having seen the outside I am delighted we ended up at An Der Mole which is in a better location). It is right on the sea. Is well furnished. Bettina was brilliant - she gave us a phone to contact her which I used so she could book trips for us. The gas BBQ was a bonus. Car parking is secure. Prices were very reasonable for the two of us.
The weather was not great all of the time and the 14-18 degree temperature was a bit of a shock after 40+ degrees around Sossusvlei but we enjoyed Swakupmund - mainly because of the apartment and Bettina and Peter's friendliness.
We would go back anytime and suggest that you stay at An Der Mole if you have the chance.

Room Tip: An Der Mole apartment rather than the B/B or Atlantik Sicht because of the location.

We stayed here in April 2013. We stayed in the family room which is great value. Kids enjoyed being in camp beds and if we had wanted to cook the kitchen facilities were more than adequate. The rooms were clean, every kind of plug adapter was catered for and free wifi. The only drawback of the family room was that it was at the front of the property and other guests could be quite loud at getting in and out of their cars as its right next to the car parking. Also if you have inconsiderate guests who play their TV loud very early in the morning, that noise travels too.
What we really liked about Cornerstones was the friendly staff and owners. Always happy to help book restaurants, taxis, suggest places for dinner etc. The breakfast in the morning was overseen by the owner, always with a smile on his face and ready to chat and accommodate whatever you asked for. They were especially good with the children. There was a good variety of breads, fruit, cold meats, cheese, cereal, juices, drinks etc as well as eggs and bacon cooked on the spot to set you up for the day.
The guesthouse is on the outskirts of Swakopmund but this only means a 5 minute walk to the main street for places for dinner! Its a great location, easy to walk to anywhere and tours will also pick you up from here as well. Overall we found it a great little place to stay.

Room Tip: If you don't need a family room choose rooms set back from the car parking.
