“Good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

This is a good basic B&B in a good location. It is an easy and safe walk to beaches, restaurants and the central town area. The staff is friendly and helpful (eg. making dinner reservations which you definitely need in Swakopmund). The breakfast was ample and included anything a guest might want. As in all of Namibia, the breads were exceptionally good. The room we had (Number 5 if we remember correctly) was very basic with only one chair (another was provided when we noted this to the manager) and on a corner facing two streets and so rather noisy. Our itinerary had indicated that we had a luxury room but this was definitely only a standard. When this was pointed out to the manager, her reply was that "all the rooms are the same" and yet their website clearly indicates that they have both standard and luxury rooms. It was disappointing that they were unwilling to acknowledge the discrepancy.

Our room was in an annexe across the street. As we were shown to the room, the sea view was pointed out to us in the distance. After that the closest we got to seeing the sea was the wallpaper in the room! That being said, the room was comfortable and clean although aspects of the ensuite required some attention (the tap on the sink was loose and there was hole in the wall for an extractor fan which had never been installed). It was a little on the small side. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was nice and free wifi (although a bit temperamental) was available in the main building. Close to the town centre and some nice places to eat.

We had one of the rooms across the street. Very quiet, only 4 - 5 rooms, small garden inside in front of the rooms, small smokers' corner.
People were very friendly and helpful (had some trouble with a scenic flight - the owner checked everything for me).
Breakfast was good.
The rooms are a little bit small, but OK.
The guesthouse is some 5 - 50 minutes walk from the center. There are no security problems, we walked back with no problem at all after dinner.
It is about 5 min. walk to the waterfront, 10 min. to the Tug Restaurant.
The guesthouse offers a laundry service at very reasonable prices.

After a 7 hr drive from Damaraland it was with some relief that we arrived in Swakopmund. However, this is not a beautiful town, just a welcome respite/stopover en route to other things.
Swakopmund Guesthouse is a clean, efficient guesthouse with a touch of chic in an excellent residential location. It is decorated in nautical style, perfectly comfortable and serves excellent breakfasts. A good place to re-charge your batteries (and those in your cameras/mobiles) get cash from the ATM, fill up with petrol and prepare for the next leg of your journey. The staff were very efficient and are used to liaising with tour operators/car hire companies/Scenic Air and everything worked seamlessly. It's a modern house, the rooms are average in size (with a TV which was a strange experience after a week in remote areas) Plenty of parking, a short walk to the sea, shops and restaurants and an ideal stopover spot.

The SWAKOPMUND guesthouse is clean and freshly decorated with a nautical organic twist.
The bedrooms are comfortable , our room # 3 was a bit cold , and not much privacy from the main road, and we had a window on either side that overlooked the courtyard, so we felt exposed from both sides. They have 16 rooms however so when you make your booking ask for a private room.
The guesthouse is lacking a little TLC , the heating panel in our room #3 was cracked
Breakfast is pretty standard in terms of what you would expect from a guesthouse , no frills , but if you like freshly ground coffee in the mornings you won't get it here.
The location is great as you are three blocks away from the beachfront and another three blocks up into the town , it is well located for the restaurants.
We ate at The Brauhaus , Tug and Erich's and Sylvia from the front desk kindly made our reservations on our behalf.
The internet connection was very intermittent and did not work in our room , very easy to fix with today's technology.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face onto the main road

Had one of the cheaper rooms, which are actually across the road in a different house. These were very quiet, and also quite small. Very pleasant landscaping. Room and linen smelt of cigarette smoke - limited visible no smoking signs. Bathroom tiny, but serviceable. Terrible water hammer at any time anyone used the water. Very thin walls meant you could hear EVERYTHING in the room next door... Small locked box but no safe in room. Office will hold valuables.

Breakfast was fine - eggs cooked to order plus a range of cereals, cold meats, cheese and jams. Very busy on a couple of mornings, as some of the tour companies stay at this place.
